Sheri Draper no hit a gritty Grassfield lineup in a 1-0 victory Tuesday to keep the Lady Bruins a half-game behind Great Bridge in the Southeastern District race. Britteney Brinkley doubled in the fifth, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Meghan Rhodes and scored on Brynn Reilly's groundout. Draper, who struck 11 batters out and walked two, allowed 4 baserunners. Western Branch climbed to 9-2 in district play

The Lady Bruins rally in the top of the 7th with 4 runs to pull ahead and secure the victory over previously undefeated Wildcats, handing them there first loss of the season.

The Lady Bruins Lose Heart Breaker in the bottom of the 10th inning after gaining the lead in the top of the 10th with Julie Hendriks lead off single, Taylor Magee sacrifices Julie Hendriks to second, with two outs Ashley Rutherford line drives a douBle into left field scoring Julie Hendriks from second. The Lady bruins were unable to hold on in the bottom of the inning, as Hickory scores 2 runs to win the game. Sheri Draper pitched a great game from the mound.

The #1 Lady Bruins (6-0 in District play) got 4 RBI's from Taylor Magee and 2 from Julie Hendriks to support the one-hit pitching of Sheri Draper. The senoir helped herself with two hits and a run batted in.

Lady Bruins improved to 5-0 to earn a #1 ranking with a 10-0 victory over the Braves. Leading the defense from the pitching circle was Natalie Poindexter keeping the Braves off balance @ the plate while giving up 2
hits to secure the shutout victory. Offensively the Lady Bruins collected 10 hits from a host of batters.

Lady Bruins improve to 4-0 in district play, behind Natalie Poindexter 1st win of the season with 8 k's in 4 innings. Taylor Magee and Julie Hendriks led the team with offense producing 2 hits and 2 RBI's apiece.

Sherri Draper led the defensive attack with 9 k's and no hits, while the defense provided an error free game. The offense was led by Megan Rhodes with 3 hits on the night. Taylor Magee and Julie Hendriks contributed 2 hits each.

Leading the Lady Bruins at the plate was Candice Zollars, going 2-3 with the games 2 Rbi's in the 6th inning, putting the Lady Bruins ahead to stay. Making sure that it stayed that way Sheri Draper notching 13 K's, and a tight defense that had her back.

Lady Bruins start off the seasOn with a 1-0 victory in 11 innings against Nansemond River. Sheri Draper held the fort down with 13 k's and Candice Zollars made game saving plays in the outfield to keep the game going until Brittney Brinkleys game winning single won it for the Lady Bruins in the 11th inning.

The Western Branch Girls Softball Booster Club was established to:

Train, educate, promote and develop softball skills for the girls of the Western Branch community of schools

Offer clinical and/or documentation to augment softball skills

Purchase necessary equipment and supplies needed for the middle school, junior varsity and varsity girls softball programs within the Western Branch community

Assist with the maintenance of the playing fields.
The WBGSBC spearheads fundraising efforts in conjunction with the players. Our fundraising efforts include many activities, from car washes and garage sales to pancake breakfasts and doughnuts sales. The girls are limited to how much time they can dedicate to fundraising due to their short season, practices, games, academics among many other obligations. The WBGSBC works year round to make things possible for our girls such as scholarships, equipment, uniforms and much more.
We are a non-profit organization and any donations are fully tax deductible.
