2009 VERONA LITTLE LEAGUE EXTENDED SEASON (ES)
INFORMATION FOR MINOR AND MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL
GOAL: To provide VLL players who are not selected for tournament teams an opportunity to play additional games and rotate into new positions. Coaches should strive to provide equal playing time to all players and give players an opportunity to play new and different positions and learn new skills.
TEAMS: We currently plan to play Extended Season (ES) for Minors and Majors Baseball only, however Softball players are invited and encouraged to play baseball. We did this last year and the girls and boys had a great time. Coaches are to solicit the players on their teams for sign-ups. Depending on the sign-ups we will try to keep teams intact. However, we may have to combine some teams and/or split-up some teams and ARBITRARILY re-assign players to achieve workable numbers on each team.
PLAYER ELEGIBILITY:
• All of this year’s Rookie Baseball, Minor League Softball and 8 & 9 year old Minors Baseball players are eligible to play in the Minors Baseball Extended Season.
• All of this year’s 10 year old Minors and 10 year old AAA Baseball players may choose to play either Minors or Majors Baseball Extended Season.
• All of this years Majors Softball and Baseball players as well as 11 year old AAA players are eligible to play Majors Baseball Extended Season.
• Players are encouraged to sign up even if they can’t make many of the games due to vacations, camps, other activities as the teams will typically have 14 players to account for absences.
REGISTRATION:
• Your regular season coach has a registration form and will accept your payment. If needed, you may get the registration form from the VLL web site and send it along with your payment to 1017 Zingg Drive, Verona 53593.
COST:
• There is a $15.00 charge for 2009 regular season VLL players, this includes a shirt that each player gets to keep. Checks made payable to Verona Little League can be given to your regular season coach. Each family is also required to volunteer 2 hours per ES player.
• The coach should attach payment to ES registration form. Checks payable to Verona Little League.
SCHEDULE:
• Each team will be scheduled to play 2 games per week starting around July 6th and finishing in early August for at least 6 games per team.
• Games could be scheduled any day of the week and may be different days each week based on field availability.
• Scheduling of make-up games is up to the coaches and can be scheduled through the Extended Season Coordinator.
UMPIRES:
• To keep costs down the league will generally provide Home Plate umpires. Coaches can recruit a volunteer Field umpire.
UNIFORMS & EQUIPMENT:
• Players use the same pants, socks and hats from regular season and will receive a VLL extended season shirt with the VLL logo and a number. They can use their regular season jersey until the shirts arrive.
EXTENDED SEASON COACHES:
• Will consist of a combination of some regular season coaches as well as other interested parents or volunteers.
• New volunteer coaches will need to complete a coach’s application form and have a background check completed.
REGULAR SEASON COACHES RESPONSIBILITES:
• Regular Season Coaches are responsible to solicit their players. Coaches, without exception, (including Tournament Team Coaches) are to return the attached Extended Season Interest Roster (with shirt size) to the Extended Season Coordinator no later than the prescribed turn in date.
• Coaches for the regular season will be turning in their equipment and ES coaches will be issued equipment.
