2015 Season Changes

This past month, the Verona Little League Board and other volunteers have been meeting almost weekly to improve our league, increase the opportunities available to the players, and implement a wide range of improvements. We would ask that you read through the following information carefully.

2015 Regular Season
The 2015 VLL Regular Season will have a bit of a different look. We anticipate that Opening Day will be on Saturday, April 25th, but there may be games during the week of April 20th as well.

For Rookies, there will be approximately two games a week thru mid-June and a double elimination playoff tournament to end the season before the beginning of July. With volunteer support like we had this year, we hope to offer an Extended Season for Rookies through the month of July.

For all other leagues, we will extend the season a bit longer, ending with a double-elimination tournament that finishes sometime between July 13th and 17th. These leagues will have several weeks during the regular season where there is only one game scheduled with the weekend completely free.

This change in scheduling will allow coaches more time to practice and develop their players after games begin. It will also give families longer stretches of free time during our season. And, it allows us to implement something completely new: a mid-season, pool-play tournament for each league on varying weekends. As a result, every team from Minors through Juniors will have the opportunity to experience a weekend-style tournament in addition to our usual end-of-season tournament.

Off-season Training & Tournament Teams
For many years now, Verona Little League has had a premier facility. It is widely recognized as one of the best in the Midwest. We continue to make improvements, and we have worked to have the best access to the nearby Indoor Hitting Facility behind Stampfl Field. The combination of these facilities gives us the ability to offer a more year-round program for those interested in playing more baseball.

Last season was a trial effort at implementing such a plan. This year, the plan has taken shape. As such, we will be holding assessments in September at the VLL Complex for those interested in participating in Fall/Winter workouts and--in some cases--tournaments in early Spring. Some will also be invited to participate in the Verona Baseball School, run by some of the VAHS Baseball coaching staff.

These offerings are available to those players that are committed to playing Verona Little League in 2015 and are entering 4th through 8th grade. There will be a nominal cost associated with these offerings. We are still working to schedule specific dates for the assessments; notices on those dates will follow soon. There will be 2-3 different dates to make sure that everyone who wishes has the opportunity to attend one assessment session.

Participation in these off-season activities is not required in order to play on a VLL Tournament Team in the summer of 2015. Additional tryouts will be held for those players sometime in May.

Help Grow Verona Baseball
We will be electing many new members to the VLL Board in the next few weeks and would like to encourage people to get involved. A lot of what we offer in the Fall and Winter will depend on the number of volunteers we have to manage these activities. If you have any questions, you can email our President, Eric Buzza, at or the Past President, Rob Hano, at
