EMPIRE LEAGUE FINALS 11/05/08

Well the XC season is over for us, but it still was a very good year despite not making it to CIF. The team on all levals ran very well and hard at finals. No doubts were left on the course. The F/S hopefully gave us a good sign of what the future may bring with continued hard work, packing it up and smart racing. The F/S put on a clinic on how to win a meet with the way they packed it up and raced. For the first time in recent memory, the team won a Finals Meet. The F/S are league champs ! Not only are they champs, but Monica(Fr.) took first place by working her way up from 5th place at the mile mark with a P.R. effort. Not to be out done; Sejal(Capt.) 3rd pl., Mariam(P.R.) 4th pl., Eden 6th pl., Rachel 7th pl., Mallory(P.R.) 8th pl. and Rosie 9th pl. raced their way into the top ten for medals !!! Meghna(11th pl.) just missed 10th by 6 seconds. Shin- Ning had a 3:17 P.R. over last year, WOW ! Makenzie also had a P.R. of 1:36 from her first race ! All F/S contributed to the team effort; Liz, Kajori,Marlene, Hailey, Caitlin, Nicole, and Sonali. I know that some of you ran with some form of an injury or still recovering, I thank you for giving your best effort at Finals. Not being able to run due to major injury were Alejandra and Chelcy, but they did a great job cheering everyone else on !!!. Great Race F/S :) The J.V. team(4th Pl.) was lead by Gema(Sr., the only 4 year runner) and Maricruz(Jr.) who earned medals by being in the top ten. Great job ladies ! Rookie runner Bianca(Jr.) had had an outstanding first year and gained valuable experience that should help out the team even more next year. Marilu(Jr.) and Pavan(Sr.) had outstanding P.R. races to help out with the team effort. Alyssa give it her best effort despite running with an injury.  The Varsity raced hard and earned a 4th place. I am happy with the effort make by all the squad members. Brittany(Fr.) raced hard and tried to keep pace with the #2 and #3 Pacifica runners. Brittany gave it a great effort and also gained valuable experience for next year. Rookie distance runner Michelle(Sr. converted from a sprinter) had a good race and season. Michelle held the second spot most of the second half of the season. Good going Michelle. Vicky(Sr.,Capt.) finished her VHS XC career by improving by 1:44 over last year ! Ana(Sr., Capt.) had high goals for her senior year, but a mid season injury almost prevented her from running again. But Ana is tough and she earned herself a spot on the Varsity squad at finals and came in fourth for the team with a 52 second improvement from last years finals. Awesome effort Ana !  Also gaining valuable racing experience for next year were Jill(Fr.) and Carissa(Fr.). Jill raced hard, caught the Pacifica #5 runner and held her off. Good racing Jill ! Carissa ran very well too, despite still recovering from a cold congestion. Senior and Captain Sharon had a P.R. performance at finals and with a great improvement over last years times !  Sharon raced very well, closing the gaps and packing it up with Jill and Carissa. Ladies you learned alot this year. You trained hard, packed it up and raced smart. I look forward to next season while currently having enjoyed this season !   Remember it starts with Captains practice in June and continues with  good Summer training.  For now,  just rest, recover and relax before we start Track training......P.S., I wish all the Seniors  the best in your future education, career,  and may your passion for running continue in college and, or  in your personal life :)  Visit the team.      Coach Garcia
