Coach Bio
Dave White has coached Cross Country and Track at Villa Park since 1975. A
history teacher, Dave earned his B.A. in Political Science from Cal State
Fullerton and his Masters Degree from National University. Dave graduated
from El Modena High School in 1970 training under Coach Schultz, and set
several school records. In the mile (4:15) and the two mile (8:59). Dave
placed third at the California State championships in the two mile both in
his junior and senior years, having been the first OC prep athlete to break
the nine minute barrier in the two mile. Dave was also C.I.F. champion in
cross country his senior year. At Cal State Fullerton, Dave set a national
under 19 age group record in the marathon (2:22:55) eventually running
(2:17:44) and qualifying to compete in the marathon at the U.S. Olympic
Trials in Eugene, Oregon in 1972. Interestingly, Dave finished the marathon
at the same time legendary distance ace Steve Prefontaine was taking his
victory lap for winning the 5000 meters. Dave competed in several races
with Prefontaine. Dave's Villa Park teams have captured several league and
individual titles. In fact, Villa Park is the only high school to have
captured back-to-back OC cross country championships in three seasons: 1983,
1984, and 1985. A C.I.F. division Two title followed in 1994, and Villa Park
has been either runner up or third in C.I.F. Cross Country three times over
the course of the last twenty-five years. Dave has coached several male
athletes who have broken 4:20 for the 1600, 9:30 for the 3200, and 1:58 for
the 800. Dave also coached Erica Sahli and Nicole Blalock (both All-C.I.F.)
and several All-C.I.F. male athletes, including State Meet individual Cross
Country Champion Augie Escobar. Dave believes in bringing a long runners in
applying scientific methods to enhance their training and racing fitness.
Dave wants each athlete to achieve his or her goals in the sport, and to be
committed to learning more about running so that it can be the source of a
lifetime of good health. Dave lives in Ladera Ranch with his wife, Irene,
and two sons, David, 13, and Daniel, 11.

Phillip Sitner has been coaching Cross Country and Track at Villa Park since
1998. Phillip received his B.A. in Economics at Cal State Fullerton where he
ran under Coach Elders, (an alumni
of Villa Park who was coached by Dave
White), and ran a 4:08 mile and 1:52 800. At Cal State Fullerton, Phillip
was Middle and Distance MVP in 1998 at Cal State Fullerton. Coach Phil is an alumni of Villa Park where he ran under Coach White. At Villa Park, Phillip ran a 4:20 mile, 1:56 half mile, and a 15:08 3 mile.
Coach Phil was a leader of the 1993 State qualifying Cross Country team as well
as MVP in Cross Country 1993, MVP Track 1994, All Orange County 1993 Cross
Country, and made it to the Masters meet in the mile 1994.

Marti Potter has been coaching with Villa Park since 2009 as the hurdles coach.
Since 1999, she coached with Villa Park Elementary at the local, county, and
regional level. Since 2006, she has coached for the EqualizersTrack Club and
Cross Country team. The Equalizers are one of the top rated Track clubs in the
nation for youths runners ranging in age from 7 to 14 years old. In 2008, 6 out
of 7 teams placed in the top three places at the AAU National Championships in
Alabama. Marti was a varsity runner her freshman year in the 800 and 400. She
set her high school record for the 800 and was the anchor of the top placing
4 x 400 relay team for four consecutive years at the Michigan UP Final Track
Invitational. Marti graduated in 2008 from CSUF with a BA in Criminal Justice
and is a Masters of Counseling graduate student at CSUF.

Eric Orozco first year of coaching. Currently works as a Custody Officer for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Coached and ran Baker to Vegas (a law enforcement race) for seven years.
Eric ran cross country and track at Northview High School in Covina. Posting personal bests of 15:45 for 3 miles and 4:23 for 1600 meters and 2:03 for 800 meters. Member of Citrus College’s 1988 cross country Foothill Conference championship team. Eric still actively runs 5ks, 10ks and sprint triathlons. He is a big believer in crossfit training in order to improve runner’s overall performance. Eric is pursuing his degree in Business Management at the University of La Verne.
