20th United States Football Association Tournament

The longest running semi-pro football post league tournament in the country, the United States Football Association Tournament will celebrate its’ 20th consecutive season in 2008.  This prestigious tournament has included some of the best semi-pro football teams of all-time.  Each season for the past two decades, some of the top ranked national teams, including many league champions, have battled it out on the gridiron to see which can lay claim to the USFA National title.  Many of the USFA champions and tournament teams can be considered as some of the best of all time.  Legendary names like the Marlboro Shamrocks, Racine Raiders, Dupage (now Kane County) Eagles, Brooklyn Mariners and Scranton Eagles have been in operation and often competing in the tournament since the early days.  Many other great teams have been a part of making this the most recognized, and arguably the highest level of our sport.   The USFA Tournament is now run by National Football Events, which also operates National Bowl Weekend (January in Florida), the NFE Coaches Poll National Rankings, the Winter League National Rankings and the annual Casino Bowl All-Star Game in Las Vegas. There are currently several different regional tournaments which are conducted within the USFA along with college style “Bowl Games”, played in Florida in January.  The 12 year old Harvest Bowl, featuring teams from the Northeast part of the country has become the USFA Harvest Bowl and will continue with the fine tradition of representing the leagues from the Northeast.  This year will mark the 4th year of the Metro Bowl, which is now known as the USFA Metro Bowl and includes teams from the Mid Atlantic region.  In the Central part of the country, 2 tournaments will again held, the Midwest Football Tournament, whose champion will be pitted against the champ of another region, and the Mid-States Tournament, which will offer the opportunity of further post season play for teams in the Midwest.  2008 plans are being made now for a USFA Southeast tournament based on interest from several teams in that area. Each region is run as a separate tournament with the winners paired up for the next rounds. Travel and expenses are considered to make the most efficient matchups possible.  Payments can be made via the Natinoal Football Events website for the convenience of teams entering the tournaments.

2008 AGENDA

The directors of National Football Events would like input from the many leagues and teams around the country who may be invited to participate in this seasons tourney.  This year, the directors are planning to set a schedule for commitments from leagues and teams to ensure the highest level of semi-pro football will include the best possible teams from all across the nation.  Champions of leagues will be the first to be invited to continue their seasons after league play, followed by runner-ups and the highest ranked teams according to the polls.  To help make the scheduling and overall quality of the tournament work most efficiently, we are asking that you contact National Football Events as soon as possible  to report the dates for championship games of your league as well as an indication if your team would be interested in participating in the tournament should your season be a successful one.  At this level of football, Semi-Pro, the main obstacle to overcome is travel and money, and while no organization can afford to travel cross country to play several games, the USFA tournaments offer the most efficient means to get some of the very best quality teams together to prove who is best “on the field.”We would like to begin the Regional’s at the earliest possible dates after a sufficient number of leagues have crowned champions. Ideas, comments and suggestions are always welcome to improve the tournaments and make our level of football the very best it can be.  Thank you for your support.  Good luck in 2008!

USFA Regional Tournaments:              We will also offer the following inaugural tournaments.

USFA Harvest Bowl   (Northeast Region)
USFA Metro Bowl      (Mid Atlantic Region)                         Central States Football Tournament
USFA Midwest Football Tournament                                     USFA Southeast Football Tournament
USFA Southeast Football Tournament

* Invitations and scheduling will be announced soon
