Parent Guidelines
The purpose of these rules are to establish guidelines for parents. The club realizes that the intent of most of the parents is positive interaction. It has become evident over the years that some youth events are ruined by insensitive and disrespectful individuals who choose to embarrass themselves, their children, and all others around them during or after volleyball matches. These actions are usually directed towards coaches, officials, or players. Ultimate Volleyball Club will not tolerate this type of action. The only warning offered by the club is this document. The consequence is suspension or expulsion.

Read very carefully before signing.

1. All parents will conduct themselves in a positive fashion during all practices and competitions, which they choose to attend. All references to their child or other players must be positive whether verbal or non-verbal. Parents who cannot follow these rules are asked to stay out of the gym during all practices and competitions.

2. No parent is to coach or attempt to coach their child or any other player during any club practice or competition. If you distract your child’s attention from the practice instruction or competition they will be asked to sit with you for the remainder of the event.

3. Parents may not be on the gym floor during any competition. You may not be next to or behind the player’s bench unless there are designated bleachers for spectators.

4. Parents are not allowed to discuss player/team performance topics before, during or after any practice or competition with the coach. Furthermore, these types of discussions should not take place with club parents about their child or other players. If there are questions then the player must make arrangements to meet and discuss these issues with their respective coach. The parent may contact the Club Director with further questions after their child has discussed the issue with their coach. The Club Director will contact the coach if necessary to discuss the situation. No player on a team is guaranteed any specific amount of playing time. Playing time will be based on several factors by their respective coach.

5. During overnight stays at hotels all players will be required to stay with their teammates. No parents will be allowed to take their child anywhere other than team functions.

6. Parents assume responsibility for getting their child to and from practices and tournaments on time.   It is not the coaches’ responsibility.

7. Club fees will be due on the specified day of each month. Unpaid fees will result in players being placed on inactive status. No participation in any club activity will take place until fees are paid. There will be a $50.00 late fee for any payments not received by the due date. There will be a $30.00 fee for any returned checks.

8. Drugs and Alcohol: Any player in Ultimate Volleyball Club who is caught with any form of drug or alcohol before, during, or after any club event will be removed from the program immediately. The regular club disciplinary policy is not followed. Ultimate Volleyball Club has a zero tolerance policy; there will be no warnings or refunds for anyone that breaks this rule.

Player Guidelines
1. Ultimate Volleyball Club is committed to the devolopment of individual players and teams. All players who are selected to this program are expected to reflect this same committment back to their club, team, and individual players. This attitude must be taken very seriously and considered prior to accepting a position in the club.

2. All players must arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of practice. Everyone is expected to be at practice the entire time. All players will be required to wear practice shirts, one of which will be provided, to all practices. Any extras can be purchased from the club. Players failing to wear the specified practice shirt will be disciplined according to the club discipline policy.

3. Players have three personal days throughout the season that may be used for whatever and whenever they want excluding tournaments. However, written notice must be given in advance if possible. Sanctioned school events will not count as personal days. A commitment to Ultimate Volleyball Club means that all other conflicts are to be secondary and club activities take precedence. It is the responsibility of the student athlete to manage their schoolwork. Players exceeding their 3 missed practices will be disciplined according to the club disciplinary policy. Players that miss practices prior to a tournament should expect their amount of playing time to be affected. All suspensions will begin on the next scheduled practice date.

4. Club Disciplinary Policy:
1st offense: Warning. Player/Coach meeting. Parents and Club Director notified.
2nd offense: Player/Coach/Club Director meeting. One week suspension.
3rd offense: Parent/Coach/Club Director meeting. One month suspension.
4th offense: Suspended for remainder of year.

5. All players are expected to travel to tournaments with their team. Players are required to wear UVC attire throughout the weekend and at all team functions.

6. While staying in hotels, players are required to follow all rules set by the Club Director or Coach. Failure to follow these rules may result in player being sent home immediately and possibly being removed from club.

7. If a problem occurs during any club activity, the following sequence of events are to be followed:
    a. Player is to meet with their coach and discuss her concerns. During the week, these meetings should take place before or after a scheduled practice. During a competition play-date, the player should request to talk with their coach sometime between matches. It is the responsibility of the player to initiate this meeting.

    b. After the above meeting has taken place and further discussion is needed, the parents are to contact the club director and arrange for a meeting. A meeting will be arranged within seven days at which time the player, parents, coach, and the director will discuss the concern. The meeting will not be held unless all parties are in attendance.

    c. If the concern cannot be resolved Ultimate Volleyball Club, at the request of the family, will issue a pro-rated refund of club dues and participation in the program will be terminated. Registration fees, uniform costs and tournament costs are non-refundable.

8. Players who quit before the end of the season are not eligible to participate on a team in the next calendar year season. Extenuating circumstances such as academics and physical injury will be considered on an individual basis by the club.

9. Drugs and Alcohol:Any member of Ultimate Volleyball Club who is caught with any form of drug or alcohol before, during, or after any club event will be removed from the program immediately. The regular club policy is not followed. No warning, No refund. Ultimate Volleyball Club has a zero tolerance policy.

10 Guidelines for Being a Positive Player-Parent
1. Cheer your player on, be supportive of him/her, but do it without judging him/her, the coach, or teammates.

2. Many things will aggravate you that do not even faze your player. Do not make something into an issue if it is not an issue.

3. Encourage your child to seek his/her own answers. Coaches respect players who come to them and privately question their playing time or role; it immediately indicates they want more.

4. Understand the rules of the game and the coach's philosophy. Substituting in volleyball has consequences.

5. Do your physical part as a parent. Get your child to practice on time and pick him/her up promptly. Demonstrating responsibility and commitment can be incredibly effective.

6. Positions and talent sometimes do not match up. Coaches attempt to do what is best for the team, putting the best physical mix and the best "chemistry" on the floor. That may mean that sometimes your son or daughter may be playing out of position in an attempt to "strengthen" the team. A positive spin by you can go a long way in helping your child adjust to a new role. Stay positive, and maybe your child will flourish.

7. If you have real concerns, and your player has attempted unsuccessfully to work things out with the coach on his/her own, schedule a meeting with the coach and have your child attend with you (you may not be hearing the whole story - a common occurrence). If you are trying to resolve a problem, help your player by being a role model in the problem solving procedure.

8. Never approach a coach with complaints after a tough game. Wait and schedule a visit after everyone cools off. Most coaches are highly competitive, and just like players, do not like to be confronted after tough games.

9. Please think before criticizing anyone connected with your son or daughter's club or team. Criticism is contagious and often hurtful. The damage you do could be irreversible.

10. Visibly show that you enjoy watching your child perform; this will make him/her feel better about individual participation, no matter what the role is.
