Purchasing a new bat for Little League play

Managers/Players/Parents
Before purchasing a new bat for Little League play - Spring 2010 season, consider the following rule changes:
Majors Division and below - The bat shall not be more than 33 inches in length, no more than 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Non-wood bats shall be printed with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15 or less.
Junior Division - The bat shall not be more than 34 inches in length, no more than 2 5/8 inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than 15/16 inches in diameter ( 7/8 inch for bats less than 30 inch ) at its smallest part.
Senior/Big League - The bat shall not be more than 36 inches in length, no more than 2 5/8 inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than 15/16 inches in diameter ( 7/8 inch for bats less than 30 inch ) at its smallest part. The bat shall not weigh more than 3 ounces less than the length of the bat ie: 33 inch bat cannot weigh less than 30 ounces. All non-wood shall meet the BESR performance standard and labeled with a permanent certification mark.
ALL Division - Wood bats may be taped or fitted with a sleeve for a distance not exceeding 16 inches, 18 inches for Junior/Senior/Big League from the bats small end. A non-wood bat must have a grip of cork, tape or composition material, and must extend a minimum of 10 inches from the small end. Slippery tape or similar material is prohibited. An illegal bat must be removed from play and or practice.

Note: Baseball/Softball – February 5 and 6 are reserved for makeup days if necessary. If a player is moving up to a new division (age bracket) the player must attend try-out. If the player does not attend try-outs he/she is not eligible for 2010 League All Stars.

 

Note to Parents/Players: What to expect during tryouts. Each player will be observed by team managers in the following skills: Running, Hitting, throwing, Fielding ground balls and high fly's. Players do your Best. Start getting ready now. Attend your try-out sessions, know your tryout date/time/ and location. Show up 20 minutes early, check-in and get your number, warm up with light exercise. Have your safety gear on. Bring your hat, glove, cleats. If it's cold, bring a jacket that is not bulky. Bring your own water to tryouts, stay hydrated. Again, do your Best and you will make the team. * Player Draft - February 6, 2010. Time: for each Division is as follows:

Baseball                                   Softball

Seniors 9am                           Majors - 3:30pm

Juniors  10am                         Minors - 4:30pm

Majors  11am

Minors  1pm

Rookies 2:30pm

* Team Practices - A team manager will call each player he/she selects. You should receive a call not later than February 7, 2010. Practices should start on Monday February 8. Complete schedules will be posted prior to start date.

 

* Opening Day - Play Ball - March 6, 2010.

* Other scheduled events:

·        The Managers’ Organizational Meeting is scheduled for January 30 at 8:30 AM in the Park’s office

·        All Managers and current umpires are invited to the District Umpire Training on February 13 at 9:00 AM in Union Park. All managers should bring an additional person (coach or volunteer parent) in order to satisfy the need for umpires for the season.
