Fischer able to tech fall Lower Merions' Rob Levinthal 15-0, closing the match with a leg cradle. "Hes one of my best guys," Coach Matz said. Hes only a sophomore, but hes just got so much heart. I'm really proud of him today." The Indians had other place winners as well. Andrew Smith (135) won a tough 4-3 decision against Abingtons' Tim Hermann in the consolation match to finish the day third in his weight class. Ian Crampton (140), also contributed with a "Gritty" third place finish and Anthony DiMarco (152) as well as Ethan Bunting (119) captured fourth place. Carney, Bunting & Stevens Shine But The Indians Suffer Their 1st Loss Of The Season (18-57)
Conestoga brought their 8th place, District 1 ranking into the UHS gym last night and proved that their lofty placemement was well founded in a 57-18 victory. The match began at 112 lbs with UHS's, Nick Fischer suffering his only setback of the season in a tough 13-4 loss. From there, Ethan Bunting and Grady Stevens got the Indians engine percolating with back-to-back pins that got the crowd buzzing and had the hometown hopefuls thinking upset. Things remained very much in question through the middle weights but, the back end of the Pioneers' line-up proved too experienced for our young grapplers. In the last bout of the evening however, the partisan crowd was sent home on a high note and dreaming of things to come. Sophomore, Chris Carney in a "highlight film" match at 103 scored a dramatic 3rd period pin.
The JV's get back to the mat this Saturday, the 17th in a Tournament at Strath Haven. Coach Matz will attempt to the get the Varsity back to their winning ways, next Monday, the 19th as they travel to Malvern Prep for a dual meet with the Friars.

Indians Captures 3rd Place Honors at The Kennett Invitational
No question, UHS' wrestlers came into the annual Kennett tournament on a wrestling high. Fresh off four consecutive duel meet wins, the Tribe was hunting gold but, when Saturday arrived injury, illness and an extra 0.8 lbs left the Indians with less than a full squad on the mat. With eleven teams in the competition, an already difficult objective got that much tougher.
None of this seemed to deter Coach Matz maturing squad as the Us proceeded to place four wrestlers in the Championships and an equal number in the Consolation finals. When the action cleared the Indians finished up a very respectable, 3rd, narrowly conceding silver medal honors to A.I. DuPont and behind Team Champions, O.J. Roberts.
Individuals honors went to Anthony DiMarco who was crowned the 145lbs champion after a dramatic 2nd period pin. Nick Fischer (112), Pete Schilthuis (275) and Jacob Popham took home silver with Chris Carney (103) and Ethan Bunting (119) earning 3rd place, bronze.

Indian Grapplers Raid Avon Groves Senior Night Party (39-27)
It was senior recognition night for Avon Groves' Varsity Wrestling Team and the hometown crowd was poised for a Devils victory. UHS found themselves in an unexpected hole from the opening whistle due to an injury default at 119lbs. It took a gritty performance on a bad leg from Captain, Andrew Smith (125), to get the Us on the board. From there, Coach Matz newbies began to assert themselves as Fr, Alex Robillard (130) pinned to touch off an Indians rally that included wins by Jesse Picard (135), a key pin from Sr, Captain Ian Crampton and a thrilling OT win from Stavros Giannoukos. The run ended in the match of the night as Fr, Jacob Popham came roaring back from a 7-0 deficit to pin AG, Sr. Captain Andy Bannon. The Blue and Gold then watched their sizable lead evaporate into a 27-27 tie with two matches left to decide. Again, it was the youngsters who took over for the Tribe as sophomores, Chris Carney and Nick Fischer both recorded pins to close the door on the Devils. UHS grapplers got an expected day off from practice as a reward from the coaching staff for a job well done! The Us return to action next Wednesday, the1st as they host cross town rival Kennett High School. Wrestling is expected to get underway at 6:30pm.

Indian Wrestlers Exorcise The Blue Demons! (56-20)
Unionville varsity grapplers entered last nights home duel meet with cross town rival Kennett expecting to post an easy W. As is often the case, things are never as easy as they seem! Action began at 140 lbs. with Sr, Captain, Ian Crampton posting a quick 6 pts with a 1st period decking. After that the train got a little off track as KHS strung together wins at 152,160 & 171 keeping the outcome very much in question.
It took some pinning heroics from Colin Ely (189 lbs) and Bryan Stevens (215lbs), both giving away substantial weight to their Blue Demon opponents to spark the Tribe. From there the Us won 6 of the next 7 bouts and were never headed!
The Blue and Gold return to action next Tuesday, the 7th when they host the Garnet Valley Jaguars. Be sure to be mat side by 6:30pm to catch all the action.

Jaguars Tame The UHS Tribe
Coach Matz wrestlers entered last Tuesday nights' duel meet with Garnet Valley with the knowledge that a second place finish in the SCCL hung in the balance.
From the lottery pick to determine the starting weight class (145lbs), to the final bout, it was not to be for the Indians. GV got of to a fast start in the wheelhouse of their line up and never looked back. As the Us approached their typically strong lighter weights they found themselves in a 23-6 hole. A tough loss at 103 and a dramatic reversal of fortune at 112 sealed their fate as the Tribe never was able to mount a serious charge.
UHS will look to get back into the win column and get prepared for next weekends sectional tournament when they host Coatesville for Senior Night this Friday at 6:30pm. Please join the coaching staff in honoring the accomplishments of our seniors and their supportive parents.

Indians' Convincing In a Win Over Coatesville (53-26)
In impressive fashion, UHS got back to the plus column in their final duel meet of the season with a dominant handling of the Red Raiders. While the end result was much to Coach Matz liking, it was not without its anxious moments.
In a little deja vu from the recent Kennett duel meet, Indians Captain, Ian Crampton got things started with a quick pin follow by a forfeit at 145 to give the Us an early 12-0 lead. Coatesville, State Qualifier, Cory Blake then showed why hes ranked # 1 in the District as he got CV on the board with a 1st period pin at 152. That seemed to spark the Red Raiders as they took the next four bouts in building a 12-26 advantage.
From there the young Us conjured up that same magic they used against KHS as they accepted two walkovers and then proceeded to run the table on the Red Raiders with 4 pins and a technical fall at 119.
Coach Matz grapplers enter the section 4 tournament this Saturday at Boyertown with much anticipation and expectation based upon a lot of hard work, big hearts and a solid season of achievement.
