Travel Basketball FAQ
                      Travel Basketball
          Frequently Asked Questions

1.        What kind of time commitment does Travel Basketball require?
From about October 20th until December when games begin, there is more gym time available so practice maybe 3-5 hours per week. After that, typically, there are two practices per week or 1 longer practice for a total of 2 hours per week. We practice at Sandy Run, Maple Glen and other UD schools.

2.        How is the basketball age group determined?
Age is determined as your child’s age as of August 31st of the current year (8/31/2006).

3.        What are the rules for playing up an age?
UDJAA Travel plays in the Suburban League which is a community league. The Suburban League will allow you to play with an older team other than the August 31st age determination. UDJAA has a specific rule in place to allow children the ability to play up with their talent appropriate group. UDJAA allows you to move up one time or drop back one time, but your child may only tryout for one age group team per season. If you do not make a team, even if you are trying out to play up, your UDJAA option is to play intramurals for the current season (see number 5 below).

4.        How are the Travel teams selected?
Two or Three closed tryouts (practices) with a selection committee.

5.        What happens if my child doesn’t make the team?.
Your child will have the option to play in the UDJAA intramural program and you will be given a refund for the difference or a full refund if decide not to play.

6.        Is there guaranteed playing time?.
This is competitive basketball and one of the main goals is to win. Playing time is not guaranteed, but in most cases all children do get into play in every game.

7..        How many games are there and where are they located?.
The Suburban League has teams located from Royersford to New Hope. The League has 2 pre-season games (in December) and 12 regular season games starting in January running thru February. Playoffs start end of February and league is usually complete by first weekend in March.

There are two tournaments that each UD team participates in as part of the registration fee. The Girls usually play in the Thanksgiving tournament in Warrington. The Boys usually play in a Renegades-Bucks County Tournament in early December, which runs for several weeks in December. Usually both the boys and girls play in a season ending tournament at PW in March. There are other tournaments, it is a decision made by your Travel team coach. If teams decide to play in more than 2 tournaments the tournament fee will need to be paid by the team parents.
