U13 players must have been born in 1998 or 1999 (or later).

U15 players must have been born in 1996 or 1997 (or later).

***Any player that has competed in High School at the VARSITY level are ineligible to compete at the U15 level***

Rules:2 - 20 minute running halves with 5 minute halftime. 1 - 2 minute time out per team, per game – not given in the final 5 minutes of the game.  We are playing on a central horn, the clock will not stop on time outs.   If there is an injury time out, the timekeeper will keep the clock for the end of the game. Be sure your team is prepared to get on the field and ready to start on the hour of your game.

Everyone in the tournament is playing Man Up / Man DownRunning time penalties will be kept in the box by the scorekeeper/timekeeper.                  Penalties               30sec     =              :45 sec running time                                                1min       =              1:30 running time Athletic Trainers2 to 3 Certified Athletic Trainers and athletic training students will be on site to provide medical care; look for the tents with the 3 red balloons.

In case of an emergency on the field do not call 911. An emergency action plan has been developed for the players. Disclaimer: The athletic training staff’s medical advice and recommendation for return to play will be final. Only a written note from a licensed physician or other allied health care professional may release a participant for return to play.

WaterThere is NO WATER SOURCE at the Turf facility, other than for sale. So please bring water for your players.

Address for the facility is 2701 Vanstory Sreet, Greensboro, NC 27407

Greensboro LaxFest Parking Info Please share with your parents! Those of you who were here in the past may have had the pleasure of a parking ticket, courtesy of Greensboro’s finest. For your benefit, please pay attention to the NO PARKING SIGNS along Veasley street which borders the parking lot closest to the field. The No Parking area is the south side (closest to the fields) of Veasley Street (the street that parallels the fields). There are 2 obscure No Parking signs, very easy to miss. You may be ticketed if you park illegally! Parking options:

For those of you staying at the Sheraton, that is a 0.6 mile walk thru a parking lot. Do-able but not much fun for a kid carrying gear, and parking lots are never the safest place anyway. A couple better options:

#1) The Four Seasons Grand Theatre is between the Sheraton and the Smith fields on Vanstory Road. There is plenty of parking and it is right across the street from the field. There is also a Park and Ride lot attached. These parking areas are a 0.2 mile hike to fields. This is actually a better option than parking at Smith High School, which is detailed below.

#2) Per below, there is a drop off area at the Smith lot. Even if it is full, you can still drop off. When you turn onto Veasley you will see the parking lot and fields to your left. There is limited (about 60 spaces) in that lot. Please note that we are reserving 10 spaces for the referees; these will be cordoned off and we ask that you respect that. You are welcome to pull into this lot near the fields, even if full, and drop off kids, gear, etc. Just tell the staff you are dropping off if they say the lot is full. Our parking staff (all wearing yellow vests) will either direct you into that first lot if spaces are still available, or will direct you past the lot to the next right turn (another parking staff person in a yellow vest) where there is plenty of parking at Smith high School. When that lot gets full you will have to park on the far side of the school, which involves a walk of maybe 600 yards. No one can park in the bus lot (don’t worry, you will know which one that is!).

FootwearThe turf at Smith Fields is the new age AstroTurf. It feels like really nice grass and plays that way. Players can wear turf, tennis or (rubber) cleats on these fields. I would advise your players to bring at least 2 of the above, so they are ready for different field conditions. ABSOLUTELY NO METAL OR SHARP CLEATS

Food and DrinkYou are welcome to bring coolers and food! There will be concessions available but feel free to bring what you wish! However, the owners of the facility do not allow the use of grills.

PinniesPlease ask your players to bring pinnies as well as their uniforms. It is inevitable that we will have teams wearing the same jersey colors playing each other.

No Pets/ No Smoking!!!Please let your parents know that the facility does have “No Pets”  and No Smoking rules within the facility.

Weather DelaysWe will only stop for lightening. Per North Carolina High School rules, play can resume after 30 minutes with no lightening.  It is impossible to have a firm set of rules on what we do if we encounter delays. We will do our best to play all or part of each game, but we will make adjustments as needed to stay on the schedule. With 50 + games to be played, we will suspend a game and start the next one on time if needed.

TentsBring your tents and set up inside the grounds! Please make sure all tents are the type you do not have to fix to the ground, as the area is either concrete or turf. It is first come, first served!

TYLA is proud to be a partner in the Positive Coaching Alliance! Remember, Please Honor the Game by Giving it back to the Kids!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tournament Director Dan Cetrone at dcetrone@greensborocollege.edu or 336-253-5379.

More details about the tournament will follow in the next few days.

Length of Games:
We are playing off one central horn to start, end the half, start the 2nd half and end the game. 2 x 20 minute running halves for all ages, 5 minute half time.  If there is an injury that is delaying the game, your game bench coordinators will inform the coaches and officials on how to make sure we are getting each team the appropriate amount of game time.  5-10 minute warm up before games as time allows. No Overtime. If a game ends in a tie the game is over.

Penalties:
U-11, U-13 and U-15:
We will play regulation lax rules, meaning time served on possession fouls, and man up/man down. A time keeper will be in the box to keeper penalty time. These are running clock penalties so a :30 second violation will be :45 seconds long and a 1 minute violation will be 1:30 long.  The penalty time will start on the officials whistle.
Timed Situations:
U-11 - no timed clears, no requirement for team leading in last 2 minutes to stay in the box.

U-13 - no timed clears except goalie must get ball out of crease in 5 seconds, no requirement for team leading in last 2 minutes to stay in the box.

U-15 - timed clears (
4 seconds out of the crease, 20 seconds from possession to crossing midfield, 10 second into the box each time. Offensive 10 second count does not start again until offense has regained possession of the ball. Leading team must keep ball in box in last 2 minutes.

Long Poles:
Per
NFHS rules, maximum 4 long poles on the field at any time at all levels.

Body Checks:
Per US lacrosse guideline no body checking of any kind is permitted in the U-11 division, which includes no man/ball, clear the body pushing. If the ball is not moving the referee will start play following the alternating position session rule. Incidental pushing and shoving in the scrum is not considered body checking.

Body checking is permitted in U-13 and U-15 per US lacrosse guidelines.

Please note that any body check deemed by the referees to be dangerous or excessive will be considered an illegal body check or unnecessary roughness.

The LaxFest is all about fun, not take out checks! Keep it clean and safe!

Time Outs:
1 Time Out per game per team it is limited to 2 minutes and cannot be taken in the final 5 minutes of the game. A live ball time out may be called when your team is IN POSSESSION of the ball no matter where the ball is on the field, per NFHS Rules. A dead ball time out may be called by either team at anytime. Dead ball means before any restart regardless who has the ball or is entitled to the ball.

Horns:
Horns are allowed on all sideline out of bounds and all dead ball situations allowing them per NFHS rules. No horns on end line out of bounds.

5 Goal Mercy Rule:
Will be in effect at all levels. After a 5 goal lead is established, ball is awarded to losing team at midfield after a goal, instead of a face-off. However, if the head coach of the losing team wishes to waive that rule, face-offs will continue at his request.

Crosse Rules:
All NCAA rules in effect, except at U-11, where short shaft down to 37 inches are OK.
There are no stick checks allowed at any level. We rely on the integrity of coaches to comply with stick regulations.
Officials:2 man crews on every game. The level of officiating will vary from top officials who do the ACC and NCAA tournaments to newer officials who have just one full year experience officiating youth games. We at TYLA stress in the strongest possible terms in our league that officials are to be shown courtesy at all times. TYLA respectfully asks that you make your players, parents and spectators aware that we have a zero tolerance policy towards any verbal abuse of referees. Any player, parent or spectator who verbally
abuses a game official will be asked (politely but
VERY firmly) to leave the facility.
“Sideline Managers”. The sideline managers will be on the sidelines for every game, encouraging positive behavior from all spectators and coaches. Please treat them with respect. They should be considered game officials and treated with the same courtesy as you would extend to our referees.Unruly, negative or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated at the LaxFest. Violators will be asked to leave the facility!
