2012 TRiKC BIG SPIN SESSIONS

The TRiKC's Big Spin SessionsSM are the most invigorating and heart pumping spinning sessions anywhere. For 2012, we once again have a program that is guaranteed to make you stronger and faster this winter. TRiKC is proud to once again offer its ninety minute “swimbikerun” program designed specifically for triathletes and cyclists. In our triathlon program you will not only learn proper triathlon cycling technique, you will learn to tune your legs for the run after the bike and to perfect your swim in the congested waters of a triathlon. Cycling is just one-third of a triathlon; you get the total package with TRiKC’s Big Spin Sessions. These sessions will be held on Thursday evening at Kirmayer Fitness Center.

TRiKC holds its Big Spin Sessions in the state of the art Kirmayer Fitness Center on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus. Kirmayer is a two-story, 50,000 square foot facility designed to promote physical fitness and the home of the University of Kansas Medical Center Sports Medicine Institute. Kirmayer has a limited number of trainers which you can borrow, if you need one. You can attend on of the individual Thursday sessions at Kirmayer on a walk in basis for $10.

Sometimes Imitated, Never Duplicated. Don't miss it!

IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Our TRiKC readers know the sport of triathlon. They accurately predicted the winners of the 2011 Ironman World Championships in Kona. It was an incredible race.

Australian Craig Alexander broke the 15 year-old Ironman course record and became only the fourth man to win triathlon's most famous race three times. He also became the oldest men's winner of the Hawaiian Ironman World Title when he crossed the line in 8:03:56. The old record was set by Luc Van Lierde in 1996. All of this after winning the world 70.3 title last month in Las Vegas. Alexander's performance this year is nothing short of epic.

The women's race featured heroic battle between Mirinda Cafrae, Chrissie Wellington, and Caroline Steffen. In this group, Steffen lead on the bike, but was unable to hold on for the win as Wellington and Cafrea came charging on the run. Carfrae broke the women's run record for the third-straight year and posted the fourth-fastest overall time of 8:57:57. But Wellington won her fourth title with the second-best women's time of 8:55:08.

2011 OLATHE MEDICAL CENTER WOMEN'S TRIATHLON

Guys, you should be really jealous. A triathlon with perfect weather, a perfect water temperature, a perfect venue, and great race management. It is the Olathe Medical Center Triathlon, but it is for ladies only. On 9|10|11 a touch of fog delayed the start of the race, but from that point forward the event and sun shined like a jewel. The winner’s podium was filled with TRiKC members, but the real story of the day was the individual strength of all of our gals who each battled in the water, then battled on the bike, and then battled on the run to finish with sizzling fast times. Each of our members were very, very, impressive! Congratulations to Angela Rupp who took first place overall as well as to all the women who participated.

Our special guest, Trish Downing, put in a very inspiring performance. Trish finished the race in 1 hour, twenty-seven minutes and 39 seconds. She was 145th overall. She is absolutely amazing!

The complete race results can be found here.

Check out some of the photos below in our photo viewer below and more at seekcrun.com

Incredibly, Trish’s busy visit to Olathe did not end with the triathlon. As she was going through gate security at the Kansas City International Airport on Sunday morning (9|11|11), a man in front of her refused to allow agents to search his carry-on. TSA screeners had put the bag through the x-ray machine and noticed something suspicious. Security closed the entire gate area and the bomb squad was called in to remove the bag. Trish had to evacuate and was not able to continue her trip home until Sunday evening. Trish was interviewed by KCTV 5 news and said "I was in line for my flight at security. I was inside the door and all of the sudden they said 'turn around and leave,' and they just started shoeing everyone out of there. We left, and we didn't really get any explanation beyond that." The video of her interview is below.

2011 SHAWNEE MISSION TRIATHLON

Congratulations to Julie Barr and Bob Schloegel who won the Long Course and to Kathy Cox and Anthony Bertolone who won the short course. This year neither rain, lightning, heat, humidity, or hills could hold our members back from having an incredible race. Congratulations to each of our TRiKC members who participated. In addition, we would like to give a special shout out to Erika Aanestad who started in the second swim heat for the short course, but who was first out of the water! Listed below are just a few of the incredible performances by our members.
