Tri-City Falcon Alumni - Kevin Garrett (Oregon)
Kevin Garrett
    * Position: Linebacker
    * Height: 5-11
    * Weight: 215
    * Year: Redshirt Freshman
    * High School/Other College: Narbonne HS

08/12/2005 - GoDucks.com
PERSONAL — Born Kevin Desean Garrett on Oct. 24, 1987 in Harbor City, Calif. Parents: Earnest and Deborah Garrett. Family: One brother, one sister. High School (Coach): Narbonne (Manuel Douglas) 2005. Major: Undeclared. Redshirt: 2005.

HIGH SCHOOL — Despite his impeccable credentials, the most impresive aspect about the all-South Bay/Westside Region linebacker and L.A. Times regional back of the year may be his instincts that always find him around the football. Gauchos built their defense around the fourth-best safety in the state who was rated 49th overall among California’s prep prospects. Garnered 133 tackles his senior season while adding 30 tackles for loss, four quarterback sacks and returned one of his four fumble recoveries for a touchdown. Narbonne finished the year with a 10-3 mark while falling to Birmingham in the L.A. City Sectional semifinals. In 2003, he was credited with 109 tackles, 42 tackles for loss, 13 QB sacks and four interceptions.

OREGON — Coaches have high hopes for his future based on last fall, however a wrist injury during the winter hampered his off-season improvement and slowed his development in the spring. Displayed flashes of his potential during spring drills, relying on good quickness and solid football instincts. Possesses a burst of speed which allows himself to get into position to make plays, yet inconsistencies and a need for a better grasp of the defense provided obstacles in his bid to break into the rotation on a regular basis. The summer will be crucial in defining his role for the coming season as it is hoped he will be ready to impress coaches from the outset of fall camp. Was credited with a pair of tackles in the Spring Game.

He ran for 1,740 yards on 221 carries (7.9 avg.) with 24 touchdowns, averaging 134 yards a game, in 2001, even though he was pulled out of most games in the third quarter because Poly had large leads. He had some of his best performances in Poly's biggest games: getting 161 yards on 20 carries versus national champion De La Salle High and then 189 yards and 3 scores on 29 carries against Edison High in the CIF Division I final. He made the All-CIF Division I first team, Los Angeles Times All-Southeast/South Coast first team and Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team first team as a sophomore in 1999 while running for 1,400-plus yards.
