TCF "Cheer" Parents Pledge.......lead by example
I pledge to get my child to practice and games on time. I understand that it can be embarrassing for my child to be late and that I may be putting her at risk by not providing adequate time for warm up. I will be on time to pick up my child from all games and practices. This shows respect for the coach, and it tells my child that she is my top priority.

I pledge to use positive encouragement to fill my child's "emotional tank" because cheerleaders do their best when their "emotional tank" is full. I understand that fewer than 1% of youth sports participants receive college scholarships and that the top three reasons kids play sports are: a] to have fun, b] to make new friends, and c] to learn new skills. I understand that cheer is for the participants, and I will keep the sport of cheer in the proper perspective.

I pledge to reinforce the ELM Tree of Mastery with my child (E-for Effort, L-for Learning and M-for bouncing back from Mistakes). Winners are people who make maximum effort, continue to learn and improve, and do not let mistakes, or fear of making mistakes, stop them. I understand that mistakes are an inevitable part of any sport and that people learn from their mistakes. I understand that children are born with different abilities and that the true measure is not how my child compares to others but how she is doing in comparison to her best self.

I pledge to "Honor Cheer." I understand the importance of setting a good example for my child. No matter what others may do, I will show respect for all involved in including coaches, participators, opponents, opposing fans, and officials.

I pledge to refrain from yelling out instructions to my child or their "coaches. I understand that this is the coach's job. I understand that practices can be chaotic at times for children trying to deal with fast-paced action and respond to new routines, teammates and coaches. I will limit/ or abstain from commenting during practice or competions to encouraging my child and other players for both teams.

I pledge to refrain from making "negative comments" about my child's coach in my child's presence. I understand that this plants a negative seed in my child's head that can negatively influence my child's motivation and overall experience.

I will honor the TRI-CITY FALCONS CHEER PARENT PLEDGE in my words and actions.

GOLDEN RULES OF CHEERLEADING

1. Cheer every game as though it were your last.

2. When all else fails, let your spirit shine through.

3. Don't eat the megaphone.

4. The fans are looking to you, not at you.

5. Sportsmanship starts and ends with the cheerleader.

6. It takes years to build your character...and mere seconds to destroy it.

7. Somewhere in the stands is a little girl who wants to be just like you...don't let her down.

8. The difference between good and great is a little extra practice.

9. Mom doesn't know where your uniform is because she didn't wear it last.

10. Keep the "leader" in cheerleader.

~*PERSONAL CONDITIONING*~

Conditioning Exercises

You know the Basics!!! Situps and Pushups!!!!

Lunges: Step forward, keeping your back straight, and bend your knees at a right angle. Go down until your back knee is almost touching the ground. Return your feet together and step out with the opposite leg repeating the process. To increase difficulty, use free weights while doing the exercise.

Double Lunge: Sit up like your doing a single lunge then take your straight leg and bend both legs to a 90 degree angle. Keep your back straight and your chest up.

Calf Raises: Stand on the edge of a step and raise onto your toes and then back down. Try to complete 25 calf raises, increasing as you become more comfortable. And you can do them at all angles.

Push-ups are a great exercise. If you are unable to perform the regular push-ups, then put your knees to the ground and do your push-ups from that position.

Tricep Dips: You need a platform of some kind that is about a foot or two off the ground, like folded mats. Place your hands on the mats with your body straight out in front of you. Bend your arms until your body is almost touching the ground, and then push back up.

Cheerleading Crunches: Lie on your back on the floor, legs straight out in front of you, arms in a touchdown. Sit up, bringing your legs up and rolling back in to a toe-touch position (straddle), and bring your arms between to a T. Just think like you're doing a toe-touch sitting on the floor. Do 10-15, increase gradually.

Scissor crunches: You start out lying on your back propped up on your elbows, then raise your legs 6 inches from the ground. While there in the air you cross your legs over then under (like scissors) then you bring your legs to your chest. And while you are crossing your legs you say scissor, scissor crunch!

Star Jumps: Crouch down, touching your fingertips to the floor. Jump up, bringing your arms above your head, shrugging up your shoulders like you would doing a jump. As soon as your feet touch the floor, return to the starting position. 20 is a good number to start with, increase gradually. To make this fun you say "I'm a STAR" every time you jump.

Consecutive tucks: Do a tuck with the approach. As soon as you hit the floor, go back up into a tuck with no prep. 5-10 to start.

Next do 3 sets of leg lifts: sit in a straddle on the floor, hands are behind you for support (hands should be on the floor, under or near your tail), slightly lean back and lift both legs (about a foot off the floor), keep your legs STRAIGHT, WITHOUT your legs touching the floor lift them 10 times, release, count to 10 for a breather and repeat. Do a total of 3 sets. Leg lifts are hard but it will strengthen your legs and improve the height of your jumps!!!

After leg lifts do side high kicks: arms in a T motion, with right leg kick 5 times, breather for 5 seconds, switch to left leg 5 times.

Wall Sits: first you start by putting your back up against a wall with your feet 18-24 inches from the wall then you sit like your in a chair so that your knees are directly over your ankles they should form a 90 degree angle. Hold it for 30 seconds to start, the more you work them the longer you will be able to hold them. Till you get to as long as you can. This will help your upper legs and stomach by holding your self up.
