Andy Hallett, head coach of the AC Flora varsity Baseball Team, spent two hours on Sunday, Feb. 22., explaining his team's workouts and drills to the Trenholm Little League coaches. Hallett covered a lot of ground - warmups, conditioning, fielding, throwing, catching and pitching. About a dozen AC Flora players were on hand for demonstrations.
Asked what coaches can do to improve young players' throwing, Hallett said the best way for players to get control of their arms is, paradoxically, to throw the ball as hard and as far as possible, without worrying about accuracy. Doing this -- but not overdoing it -- gives players a sense of what their arms can do, he said. As they develop muscles by throwing, accuracy will follow, he said.
About a dozen Trenholm coaches showed up, as well as a few parents and players.
