Thomson Competitive Bulldogs, Thomson GA: Staff
Welcome to Thomson Bulldogs competitive program! We are proud of our cheerleading program and even though this is only the second year we have made fantastic progress in short time.
Competitive cheerleading is a sport! In fact it is one of the fastest growing sports in America. It has all the traditional elements of a sport: competition, teamwork, training, practice, coordination, skill building and communication.
This website is designed to provide the information that you will need to make an informed decision on participating in this program for your child and your family, as it will become a family activity. Please read carefully and ask any questions that are not covered in this material. Acceptance to the program requires commitment, not just from the cheerleader but from the family. A solid, consistent team is critical for success. You are making a commitment to the other girls on the team to practice and be the best you can be. We want the cheerleader and the family to be fully informed and understand the obligations and commitment to the Thomson Competitive Bulldogs Team.
As Director, I also have a commitment to you. You can expect your child to train in a safe, supportive environment with very qualified, experienced coaches. When you entrust your child to our program, the coach staff will teach, encourage, train, support (and sometimes admonish) to always put forth the best effort they can. The cheerleader benefits athletically and learns that with hard work, perseverance and a great attitude, success will come. The coaches and the parents expect more than just winners on the competition floor. We expect a cheerleader to be a model and a leader, courteous, truthful, considerate, determined, respectful, and a good sport. We set high standards and expect the same from everyone involved in the program. Be assured that we will never put the well-being, health, safety or future of our athletes at risk in pursuit of a better performance. One of our goals is to help prepare the athletes for future workplace where teamwork and people skills are critical.
After a year with the Thomson Competitive Bulldogs, I believe you will be amazed at the positive changes you will see in your child, both as a team member and a person. Parents have mentioned that their child seems to develop a more mature sense of independence, accepting responsibility for their own behavior and performance in training, in competition, and even in their social life. Some become less self-centered replacing me with we. Physical fitness, nutrition and setting specific personal goals become important.
We appreciate your interest in the Thomson Competitive Bulldog Program. Please call if you have questions.

LIFE LESSONS: A COACH'S LEGACY
by Gwen P. Holtsclaw
I will teach my team the pleasures of hard work
And the importance of teamwork.
I will show them the joys of reaching a goal
And the satisfaction of finishing strong.
I will explain to them the beauty of integrity
And the fulfillment of fitness.
I will know their name
And demand their best.
I will do these things because I love them
And respect them.
The surest way I know to teach these things
Is to have them learn by my example.
