TNL coaching philosophy wide

TNL runs their softball organization similar to a major/minor league baseball organization. There is a consistent coaching and teaching philosophy throughout. Athletes are taught common hitting and fielding fundamentals, practice drills, conditioning drills, coaching signs and mental approaches to the game from 12u all the way up thru 18 Gold. The coaching staff works cohensively to ensure athletes are getting consistent instructions that do not conflict from coach to coach.

TNL coaches understand they have a great responsibility to act as role models of young athletes. The entire coaching staff strives to operate at the highest level of character. This includes treating players with dignity and respect and putting the personal welfare of the athlete above all else. Coaches will teach and exhibit sportsmanship at all times and pursue victory with honor.

Unlike other organizations that are essentially "islands of teams" that happen to wear a common uniform, TNL will have 2-3 teams working together at a single practice under the direction of up to 7 coaches. Practice sessions will often have many breakout stations each run by a coach in their specific area of specialty.

This combination of multiple teams at practice gives athletes mentorship opportunities where older players often provide additional instruction to the younger players. This also creates an environment where younger athletes are pushed to excel by playing with the older athletes.

With so many coaches available at practices, athletes are getting solid evaluation that can sometimes lead to promotions or demotions within the organization. The goal is to allow the athlete to grow and excel in the best possible environment on the appropriate team for their skill level.

Each team will have a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach at tournaments and friendlies. But it is not unusual for other coaches in the organization to assist in between their games at a tournament, or to fill in to manage or coach as needed. Since every coach knows all of the athletes and coaches using a common philosophy, coaches can move seamlessly throughout the organization as needed.

TNL coaches place a great deal of effort helping the athlete reach her ultimate goal in the game. Whether her goal is to play at a big-time Div 1 university, a smaller Div 3 college or simply to move on to college as a solid citizen, the TNL coaching staff will help the athlete realize her full potential. The TNL coaching staff puts a great deal of emphasis on preparation to play at the collegiate level, scheduling showcase events, and optimizing older team rosters to maximize exposure. TNL coaches also have many strong relationships with college coaches throughout the nation and can often be of tremendous assistance in networking and recommending athletes where appropriate.
