TNL 411 on MVP: Gillian Norton The 14 blue team played a great tournament the weekend of 11/19-20/2011. TNL had great success fueled by Gillian Norton’s play both on the field and at the plate. Gillian played great in pool play on Saturday making key plays in the field. In the first bracket game on Sunday against A Bat Company, Gillian made a game saving diving catch in right field to send the game into an international tie breaker. TNL won the game 7-3. In the second bracket game against Arsenal, Gillian was 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI’s. Unfortunately the silver bracket championship game was rained out on Sunday. Everyone on the team really stepped up their play this weekend and we are looking forward to our next tournament.

TNL Alum Kendall Fearn announced as UNLV Assistant Coach
Congratulations to Kendall Fearn Kendall Fearn was one of our pioneers who helped build the TNL organization and we are both grateful and proud of her at this special time. Congratulations Kendall! In 2005 Kendall was the very first TNL player to receive a college scholarship (University of Nevada, Las Vegas). She was an outstanding player for TNL and had opportunities to play for more established teams, but like Tony Gwynn, she was loyal to her team. Kendall received her UNLV scholarship even though she never had the opportunity to play in Colorado, Surf City Showcases or an ASA national. But she did make her opportunities count. She, along with her TNL teammates, took first place at Elite Fastpitch 2005 tournament, 5th place the inaugural Champions Cup, and numerous Triple Crown titles including TNL's 16u Triple Crown National Championship. Kendall was also the very first TNL player invited to the Allister camps (On Deck). After her freshman year at UNLV she returned to play the summer with TNL. She finally got her chance to go to Colorado. All other TNL players played in the games, but Kendall was allowed one at bat a game. She went 6 for 9 with 5 home runs. Kendall, we are so proud of you. Congratulations on being hired as assistant softball coach at UNLV. Go Runnin' Rebels! Go TNL! http://www.unlvrebels.com/sports/w-softbl/spec-rel/072011aaa.html Former Rebel Joins Staff Kendall Fearn, a four-year letterwinner and two-time all-conference performer, named softball assistant at UNLV. July 20, 2011 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV head softball coach Pete Manarino announced today the hiring of Kendall Fearn as an assistant coach. Fearn is no stranger to the UNLV softball program after spending five years as a student-athlete and one more as a volunteer assistant coach. "We are very excited about this opportunity for Kendall," said Manarino. "It is great that she wanted to continue to be part of the UNLV family and coaching staff. She understands the system after her experiences as a player and as a coach. She also understands the players and the university." With Fearn on staff as a volunteer coach the 2011 Rebels ranked nationally in slugging percentage (11th, .520), home runs per game (15th, 1.2) and batting average (17th, .321). The offense broke three UNLV single-season records, as well: home runs (54), slugging percentage (.520) and on-base percentage (.408). "I'm really excited to begin my coaching career at my alma mater and with such an experienced coaching staff and a great support staff," noted Fearn. "I'm thankful for the opportunities that I was afforded as a student-athlete at UNLV and I'm excited for the future of the program as a coach." After graduating from Carlsbad High School (Calif.) in 2005, Fearn became a four-time letterwinner at UNLV and was selected to two all-conference teams. She also earned MW Player of the Week honors twice. In the classroom, she was a three-time academic all-conference member and was named a scholar-athlete once. In all, she played in 228 games with 227 starts. She owned a batting average of .298 with 186 hits, 75 of which went for extra bases. She finished her career ranked in seven categories of UNLV's career record book. She has her name listed as high as third in RBI (142). She is fourth in walks (91); fifth in home runs (34), total bases (330) and slugging percentage (.528); seventh in doubles (40) and ninth in hit-by-pitch (12). She graduated from UNLV in 2009 with her undergraduate degree in psychology and this past spring she earned her master's in sports education leadership. Rachel Nasland verbals to Notre Dame

The Annual TNL Un-Team Photo! Yes, once again the TNL girls donned the uniforms of their respective high-school teams and gathered together for what we have dubbed the "Un-Team Photo." And, once again, TNL certifies that no CIF rules were harmed in the making of this shot. For more shots from the big day, Terry has set up a flickr photostream here!
TNL Girls Support Parkinson's Walk TNL girls took this last Saturday off from the fields to donate their time in support of the San Diego Parkinson's walk. The TNL team generated over $1500.00 dollars in donations and worked the walk course as guides and cheerleaders for the walkers and runners. The girls and their families made a big impression on the parkinson's board. The board commended the girls by saying "TNL is a top notch group of people. It is rare to find such an unselfish group of youngsters in today's society. The girls and their families should be commended, Thanks TNL!" Great job TNL!
TNL 14U Blue in Vegas TNL's 14U Blue squad captured the consolation bracket at the Las Vegas St. Paddy's Day Blast!
TNL (and others) Photos! Photos from TNL games in Lancaster, AFC in Escondido and Irvine are now posted at the Kirt's photo site, so grab a memory and help TNL at the same time! If you have any questions, please email your friendly webmaster/photographer.
Tuesday, April 21 TNLer Cassidy Coleman named CalHiSports State Girls Athlete of the Week TNL's Cassidy Coleman has been blasting through her high-school competition like Sherman's march through the South. And, by her efforts, somebody noticed that we actually play softball in San Diego. Read all about it here. I'm sure it ranks right up there with the numerous WOZ awards she's received at TNL! Oh, and if that wasn't enough, Cassidy also just broke the single season San Diego CIF record for strikeouts, breaking the old record of 400, and playoffs are still pending! Sunday, January 18 TNL 18 Gold "Classified" No, you're not reading something top secret. In Southern California ASA, becoming an 18 Gold team got a little more complicated this year, with the total teams being limited to 54. in order to enforce this limit, two qualification tournaments are to be held, the first of which took place this weekend (1/17-1/18) in Fontana. After a slow, rusty start in a 7-1 loss to Firecrackers (Ristow), TNL reeled off three wins over So Cal Primetime, Minors Gold, and Fillys Gold to nab one of the 24 "classification" spots up for grabs. Wednesday, October 3 TNL 12U, 14U Take Barstow AFA Qualifier TNL's younger teams shine again as they take first place in the 12U and 14U divisions of the AFA Qualifier in Barstow. Great job ladies!
ST PATTY'S DAY SUCCESS IN THE DESERT
Playing in their first tournament as a team, The Next Level 12's continued to grow as a group, taking third place in the Las Vegas - St Patrick's Day tournament. Going 3-0 in pool play with solid pitching, the 12's made it a lot more interesting come Sunday in bracket play, winning their first three games, all in "walk-off" fashion in the bottom of the last inning. In the semifinals, they rallied yet again in the final inning only to fall short to the eventual tournament winners, the Las Vegas Rebels. A solid showing by every member of the team.
The 14u team continued their dominance this spring season going 8-0 in Las Vegas, outscoring their eight opponents by a combined score of 74-12. In the Championship game, TNL outlasted a very strong Team Smith team winning 5-2 before heading home in the wee hours of the night. In a total team effort, the girls were impressive both offensively, and in the circle Their next tournament will be The Surf City classic in two weeks at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex.
TNL Un-Team Photo Hey TNL Fans! Unlike questionable trinkets from the Franklin Mint or strange "collectible" stuff you might find on eBay, you can invest in the results of the first of what we call the official TNL "Un-Team" Photo. Yes, for two months or so out of the year, our hatchlings leave their happy TNL home and go off to play in strange colored uniforms from their respective high-schools. This TNL group of high-school players will NEVER BE ASSEMBLED IN THIS MANNER AGAIN! Act now to order your prints of this once in a lifetime event at the TNL Photo Website. This offer void where prohibited. TNL certifies that no CIF rules were harmed in the making of this photo. Tuesday, February 6 TNL turns out for Taylor Kelly at SDSU!
Cal did their job on the field as well, beating their SDSU hosts 6-1. Observers noted that TNL's colors matched those of Cal and wondered if it was a coincidence. Taylor was also supported by a sizable contingent wearing purple, which may have something to do with Taylor's high school, Santana. Best wishes to Cal in the upcoming season, and Taylor, thanks for being a great example of what The Next Level is all about. Friday, February 2 TNL Superbowl Pools Ready for the big day? If you're in the TNL Superbowl Pools, click the link above to find your squares and be prepared to root for silly things. You know, like maybe you have "1" for the Colts, they have just scored a touchdown in the 4th to make it 41-3 and you start calling in all your points with God in hopes they will miss the extra point. Anyway, good luck to everyone, and thanks for participating! The Next Level Class of 2005!

Thank You Sponsors! TNL is fortunate to have some generous individual and corporate sponsors. Click here to see them. TNL - " A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE " "A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE" is not just a slogan... it is a way of life with TNL. This is a sampling of the awards received by TNL teams since the organization's inception. TNL Sends Three to Addidas National Future Stars Congratulations to The Next Level's Jace Williams, Courtney Craig, and Trina Harrison for being chosen to participate in the invitation-only Adidas National Futures camp held on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas. The TNL trio were among 44 elite softball players chosen from throughout the nation to play in this exclusive event. During the camp they worked out and competed in games coached by college coaches and were also evaluated by Sam Ducato, the head of the women's selection committee for future USA National teams. Congratulations to Jace, Courtney and Trina from all of your friends and family at The Next Level! Tuesday, March 4 The Next Level Looks Forward to the Summer! The coaches and board of directors of The Next Level Softball continue to refine the organization's plans for the summer when our high-school players return, as the younger teams continue to practice and play. As before, the board would like to assure everyone that TNL is not going anywhere. As one of the premiere travel softball organizations in the nation, having produced many talented athletes that play at the collegiate level, the board and our members have pulled together to continue this great tradition. For the 2008 season, all age groups are committed to participate in many tournaments and arrangements for these have already been made. This summer is packed, just as it always is, and TNL will continue it's quest for the 12U thru 18 Gold ASA championships. Mike Myer & Jerry Delamater have assumed the practice and leadership duties of the club. We also have coaches in place for each of the age groups: Doug, Leslie, Jamie and the return of a former member of our coaching staff (and ever a part of the extended TNL family), Cathy. These coaches will all be there to help Mike and Jerry, and we will continue the tradition that makes TNL a true organization, not just a collection of teams that share a name. If you have any questions about TNL, its mission, or have information relevant to the organization or its players, please contact us. In closing, as always, we are... TNL! |
