Disciples Youth Sports: player initiative program
Introducing P.I.P. (player initiative program)
The starter requirements to keep their positions are as follows:
- You must make every practice while in a starting position
- If you are outperformed during practice a challenger may take away some of your playing time
- Any activities planned outside of basketball must be attended by the starting group. These are usually leadership training programs to help both the individual and team
The older that players get the more accountable they are held for their actions during the season. One way to track participation and the effectiveness of each player is by using P.I.P.
This monitoring program puts the player in charge of what on the court contributions they can make based on their performance in practice. Here's how it works:
- players receive 10pts for attendance each practice they show up on time. However, you will lose 15pts for each practice you miss. No points will be given if you are late.
- players receive 5pts for completing warmups each practice. This is all or nothing so dont play around!!!
- players receive 5pts for completing offense and defense drills. This includes execution of set plays.
- During scrimmage drills players will receive 1pt for every basket made. Only shots made through the offense will be counted. In contrast, you will lose 1/2pt for every bad shot taken.
- Players will also earn 1pt for every rebound and steal they make during practice session. Players will lose 1/2pt for every bad pass made.
- Players will lose 1pt for every time they are seen walking down the court either offense or defense. If you are tired ask to come out but remember you cant earn points sitting on the bench.
After points have been accumulated, players will be ranked to determine their playing time for the upcoming event. The top 5 players will make up the starting lineup.
