The Texas Wolverines (known as the Houston Wolverines from 2002-2007) are a minor league football team founded in 2002 in Houston, TX. Our games are a source of family fun and entertainment at an affordable price. The Wolverines provide adult male athletes with an opportunity to fulfill their passion for full-contact football with and against top competition from the Gulf Coast region. Many of our players and coaches have NCAA Division I playing experience. Some have even played professionally in the NFL, AFL, CFL, and various other leagues. The team competes in the Gulf Coast Football Association (GCFA) with teams spanning Texas and Louisiana. With the exception of instant replay, the GCFA employs NFL rules and regulations and game officials are trained accordingly. The regular season begins in early March and teams play 10 regular season games; five home and five away. The playoffs conclude on the last weekend in June with "The GCFA Super Bowl". In the 2007 season, the Wolverines compiled an unprecedented 13-0 record and captured their fourth GCFA championship in five seasons. The Wolverines' 2008 season ended prematurely with a 12-6 loss to the New Orleans Pittbulls in the National Conference Championship Game. The loss marked the first time in GCFA history in which the Wolverines did not appear in the Super Bowl. The Wolverines returned to the Super Bowl in 2009 and defeated the Texas Express by a final score of 17-0; capturing their 4th GCFA Super Bowl title. It was the team's 5th title overall as they won the UPFL championship in 2003 before joining the GCFA. The win also solidified the Wolverines as a GCFA and Texas minor league football dynasty.
