Hubbard’s Weatherby, Edens make All-State

— The honors keep rolling in for Hubbard softball players Abby Weatherby and Natalie Edens this week.
Weatherby and Edens were selected to the Class 1A All-State team picked by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. It’s the second consecutive year for both players to make the team.
“Any time anyone gets above all-district, it’s a big deal,” Hubbard coach Mike Saucke said.
Weatherby, the All-Golden Circle Offensive Player of the Year, batted .548 with 40 hits. The senior signed with McLennan.
Weatherby had five doubles, six triples and a home run and 30 RBIs. She struck out only three times in 73 at-bats. Weatherby was also a force on the base paths with 33 stolen bases in 33 attempts. She had a .950 fielding percentage. She was the District 16-1A MVP.
Edens, a sophomore, was a first-team All-Golden Circle selection. She batted .506 with 19 doubles, three home runs and 25 RBIs. Edens was the 16-1A Defensive MVP with a .994 fielding percentage.
“We’re going to shoot for four years of All-State for (Natalie),” Saucke said. She’s a player.”
