"An Athlete's Pride"

"....... I'm a team player. I play with my friends and with some of my enemies, but I respect everyone when it comes to my sport. I know I'm not going to get a multi-million dollar contract to play professionally. I know I may not even get my name in the paper

. I play for love of the game. For the pride and honor, for the blood, sweat and tears it takes to make the team, to earn the spot, to win the game.

I play because I can, I play because I know that my life would be empty without the sport I play. I would have a lack of everything my sport gives me... integrity, courage, talent, fearlessness, pride, strength, stamina, will, and the heart of a champion. If I didn't play, I would lose a part of me. I'm an athlete. I'm a girl. I'm a champion, not because my team always wins, but because when we don't, we learn from our mistakes. We try to fix them, and most of all because we have fun. I have built lifelong friendships and memories because of my being an athlete.

I leave everything on the field

or court and continue to push myself. I am never happy with second place, but I have learned to accept it. I have learned to get over and through my anger and be the athlete and player I have always dreamed of being.

I don't play for my parents, for my family, for my friends;

..... I play for myself but when I'm playing I represent them. It isn't about winning or losing, but I hate to lose. I won't settle for a tie, and I am not satisfied with 100%.

To play, you have to sacrifice everything, your body, your time, your sweat, blood, and tears, everything... for your team.

I am a player, and athlete and a champion, not because I know what it is like to win, but because I know what it is like to lose. I know what it is like to feel the anger and pain that comes along with "second best." I have been that girl with tears in her eyes, walking out to recieve the second place trophy and clapping as the other team, my opponents, receive the first place one. I know what it is like to lose, to win, to want to quit, to want to cry, to not want to get up. I know what it is like to hear the cheers and yells for you. I know what it is like to feel the pressure of everyone on your shoulders, and I know what it is like to choke under that pressure.

I know what it means to be an athlete, a true player, and that is why I play. I AM AN ATHLETE, A CHAMPION, A TRUE PLAYER."

The meaning of a Cobra
A Cobra is a girl
Who has given her best
She has fought the hard battles
And withstood all the tests.

She loves playing the game
With great courage and pride,
Without looking back,
Being sorry she tried.

She never gives up,
She never rests with a sigh,
She believes in herself,
And keeps her hopes high.

Errors have been made
She's down in the score,
Now is the time
To reach for even more.

Her stomach is churning
As the ball whizzes by,
She knows she can do it
If only she tries.

She digs deep inside her
To find all the fate,
She's got all the confidence
While standing at the plate.

A meatball down the middle
Is what she gets,
The bat cocks back
For the almighty hit.

She knew she had done it
At the crack of the bat,
She ran around the bases
As the coach tipped his hat.

For Cobras, true Cobras,
Stive again and again,
In knowing the glorious prize
Coach gives in the end.

Whatever your challenge,
Whatever your test
Whatever you're striving for...
Give it your best!!

Reflections of a
College Player

It's 5:00 in the morning
I'm not quite awake
My coach is screaming
How long does it take!

We're dressed and we're ready
But ready for what?
The four miles of running
Or two hours of squats.

The coach says, "Ya'll start runnin'"
Up the stadium and down
Don't miss a row
And don't fool around.

Up to 12 A.M. last night studying
For a test today at 8:00
Now I'm here running
And It's not even daybreak.

I think back to the COBRAS
In Skills and discipline I grew
I thought that was tough
I had not a clue!

Mr. Kelch, he kept saying,
You girls think this is bad
But in college you will realize
The easy times that you had

Well, Mr. Kelch was sure right
Those words that he spoke
I thought I worked hard then
Hey, that's sure a joke.

The college team that I'm on
The scholarship that I got
I owe to the COBRA'S
For giving me a shot

I need to write them
For nothing else, but to say
I love where I'm at now
thanks for paving the way.

To the girls of the COBRAS
The old gray and blue
Play with heart and work hard
You will have to earn your due.

BLEED COBRA BLUE!

PRETTY GOOD .?

There once was a pretty good student , Who sat in a pretty good class

And was taught by a pretty good teacher , who always let pretty good pass.

He wasn't terrific at spelling , He wasn't a whiz-bang at math,

But for him , education was leading straight down a pretty good path.

He didn't find school too exciting , But he wanted to do pretty well ,

And he did have some trouble writing , And nobody had taught him to spell.

When doing arithmetic problems ,pretty good was regarded as fine.

Five plus five didn't always ad up to 10, a pretty good answer was nine .

The pretty good class that he sat in ,was part of a pretty good school.

And the student was not an exception ,On the contrary , he was the rule.

The pretty good school that he went to ,was there in a pretty good town.

And nobody there seemed to notice ,He could not tell a verb from a noun .

The pretty good student in fact was Part of a pretty good mob.

And the 1st time he new what he lacked was when he looked for a pretty good job.

It was then , when he sought a position, He discovered life could be tough.

And he soon had a sneaky suspicion ,Pretty good might not be Good enough .

The pretty good town in our story , was part of a pretty good state,

Which had pretty good aspirations ,And prayed for a pretty good fate .

There once was a pretty good nation ,Pretty proud of the greatness it had ,

Which learned much too late ,If you want to be GREAT ,

Pretty good is , in fact , PRETTY BAD .

YOU HAFTA BELIEVE !!!!

I Believe In Softball
I believe in competition and camaraderie.
I believe in brackets, bubble gum, and bang-bang plays.
I believe that attendance and preparation win games.
I believe there is more to being a good batter than just being a good hitter.
I believe in being relaxed on defense until the batter lifts her front foot.
I believe it's ok to use defensive shifts to play the odds, and head games.
I believe in taking my turn to coach the base across the field from our dugout.
I believe in checking on the condition of injured opponents.
I believe players should applaud opponents after they make great defensive plays.
I believe players can get better with age.
I believe taking winter BP with a cheap bat helps to hit summer homers with an expensive bat.
I believe in running out routine grounders and lazy fly balls, no matter how frustrated I am.
I believe it is better to be a smart base runner than a fast one.
I believe in the nervous anticipation of a play at the plate.
I believe in the magical moment of recognition after contact on a "no-doubter" home run.
I believe in catchers who talk junk and pitchers who throw it.
I believe in infielders who think getting dirty is part of the job description.
I believe in fast outfielders who do not hug the lines or play to deep.
I believe rattling bats can wake them up, and uncrossing them can avoid bad luck.
I believe in wiping the morning dew off a ball, and squinting into the sunset.
I believe in saving an equipment catalog until the next issue replaces it.
I believe photos; autographed balls and scorebook pages can be better than trophies and t-shirts.
I BELIEVE THERE IS NO OFF-SEASON... JUST A LONGER WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT GAME.
I believe in the butterflies of opening day and the long drive home after the final game.
I believe in showing appreciation to your family and friends who came to watch you play.
I believe in thanking the umps when the game is over, regardless of the score.
I believe the final score is part of the overall experience.

I BELIEVE IN SOFTBALL!

HOLD THE ROPE !!!!!

Hold The Rope
Every Year A Professional Baseball Team Wins The World Series, Every Year A College Softball Team Wins A National Championship, Every Year A High School Program Wins A State Crown, And Yes Every Year An Ametuer
Youth Traveling Team Crowns A National Champion. All Of These Teams Have One Thing In Common. No Matter How Tough It Became Throughout Their Season, They Did One Thing--THEY HELD THE ROPE.

What Is Holding The Rope?
Imagine You Are Hanging From The Edge Of A Cliff With A Drop Of Ten Thousand Feet. The Only Thing Between You And DEATH Is A Rope, With The Person Of Your Choice On The other End. Who Do You Know That Has The Guts To Pull You To Safety? Who Will Hold The Rope? Who Do You Know That Is Going To Let That Rope Burn His Hand And Not Let Go? How Many People Do You Know That Are Going To Withstand the Burning Pain And Watch The Blood Drip From Their Hands For You?

If You Can Name Two People, That's Not Good Enough, Because Those Two People Might Not Be Around. The Next Time The COBRAS (Your Team) Is Together, Look Around And Ask Yourself, Who Could I Trust To Hold The Rope? Who Is Going To Suffer The Pain And Let Their Hands Bleed For Me? When We Can Look At Every Member Of Our Team And Say Without Hesitation That Any Member Would Hold That Rope Then we Are Destined to Win Alot Of Ball Games. You See, The Team That Holds The Rope When The Going Gets Tough Are Winners. When You Are Down by Three Runs, Two Outs, Nobody On Base In The last Inning, DON'T GIVE UP. Yell At Your Teammates To Hold The Rope, Let It Burn, But Don't Let Go!!

Every Year There Are Winners And Losers In All Sports. Every Year The Winners Hold The Rope. You Don't Have To Be The Best Team on The Field To win The Game. If You Play With Poise And Do what Your Coaches ask you, And Most Of All--HOLD THE ROPE--You will Be Successful. No Matter What Sport You Play, In Order To Win You Have To Have a Committment To Your Team. If You Are Supposed To Run A Mile 3 Times a week, Do It. If You Are Asked To Be At Practice Three Times Per Week And Workout On Your Own Once, Don't Miss it. Once You Start Letting Up at Practice Or Start Missing Your Workouts, You've Killed The Team Because You Didn't Hold The Rope.

DON'T LET YOUR TEAM DOWN---YOU'VE GOT TO HOLD THE ROPE!!!

DONT QUIT !!!!

When things go wrong,
as they sometimes will;
When the bases you're running seems all uphill;
When the hits are low and the errors are high;
And you want to smile,
but you have to sigh;
When the heat is pressing you down a bit...
Rest if you must,
but you dont quit.
Success is failure turned inside out,
the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar....
So stick to the fight when it's hardest to hit....
It's when things go wrong that you must not quit

thanx jewel softball for this one...>
