A 10-2 Record 7th Place Finish at ASA 16u Nationals--TeamSmith, you ladies rock!
Nobody would have predicted the path that was taken, but the young ladies from TeamSmith overcame many obstacles including a first round loss. They came back, and played with heart and determination to once again prove to the world that they are one of the best teams in the country. They won 8 straight games in a row climbing their way out of the losers bracket. This made it two straight years in a row that they made it to Championship Sunday. With only two California teams left in the mix, they lost a tough game to the So. Cal Athletics to finish 7th...2nd amongst California teams. I am a very proud coach right now. Many do not know this, but this young team lost a 1-0 game a week prior to Nationals to the eventual National Champs, North West Blaze. It would have been nice to have gotten a chance to redeem that loss, but a 10-2 victorious 7th place finish was good enough in my book. There haven't been many teams that have gone to Western Nationals the year before to qualify and come back to Nationals and have much success. It was a very gratifying accomplishment...one I will remember for years to come.
CONGRATULATIONS TEAM SMITH! IT'S BEEN A GREAT YEAR
--Coach Brian
