THUNDER: Welcome
Dear Parents:
Welcome to the beginning of a fun year of Little League Baseball!
Our goal for this season is to give our players instruction and help them have a good time playing the sport of baseball. Throughout the next few months they will learn the fundamental baseball skills of throwing, catching, fielding, hitting and base-running. They will also learn about sportsmanship and how to work together as a team.
I believe in age-appropriate instruction and progressive phases. Our practices will be structured so the players will have fun and learn a little more each time, building on what they already know. Some returning players may have the basics down, but we will go through them in steps, ensuring each player understands how to properly throw, catch, field and hit. Whether your player goes on to be an All-Star or just enjoys the game, they’ll have the building blocks they need to do well.
The season begins on Saturday February 25th (Opening Day). We will have 2-3 practices during the week as well as a game on the weekend. The schedule was not out as I am writing this letter.
I will do my best to clearly communicate with you when and where your player needs to be for games and practices, what equipment they need, what additional practice they may need. Please be sure I have your correct phone number and email address and please check your email or view our team website often - that is the quickest way for me to let everyone know of a change in plans, such as cancellations or rain-outs.
Our Team Needs
As you know, Little League is a 100% volunteer-run organization and the strength of our league is in the volunteerism of parents like you. As proactive and involved parents, we give what we can to help ensure our children have the best little league baseball experience possible.
The following is a list of things our team needs this year in addition to everyone’s mandatory two hour snack bar shift. Please take a look and let us know which of these you are interested in taking on. The more these responsibilities are distributed, the less we put on just a few people.
· Coaches, coaches, coaches – we can never have too many adults out there helping instruct the players
· Field Preparation – Home team must prepare field, Visitor team must put bases away and rake the mound and batter’s box (training is available)
· Dugout Newsletter (provide post-game write-ups for our team)
· Team Mom and Team Mom assistant (there are a lot of things the Team Mom will need help with during the year)
Thank you,
