Team NorthShore – Who We Are
Together
OUR GOALS
ABOUT US
SATURDAY MORNING RUN/WALK/TALK
We meet at The GrossPoint Cafe located at Ridge Road & Wilmette Avenue in Wilmette at 8 AM and walk over to Lovelace Park in Evanston. At Lovelace, some people run; some people walk. Generally the runners do 4 half mile laps (totaling 2 miles) and the walkers do 3. Afterwards we return to The GrossPoint Cafe to talk, drink coffee or tea, share experiences/plans and tell stories until 9:15 or so. This is probably the best way to get to know the widest range of Team NorthShore members.
SUNDAY MORNING RUN This is the classic weekly “long run” – but what is “long” will vary by season, individualand training/fitness objectives. It can be used for race training or meeting personal fitness goals or simply maintaining current fitness levels. Sunday runners cover a wide range of paces and distances. The distances tend to increase through the summer as some people train for fall marathons; these longer “long” runs are supported with periodic Gatorade/Water stops.
From May to October we run the Green Bay Trail; we usually start at 6 AM from either the Glencoe Metra Station or the Wilmette Metra Station.
From October to May we generally run north along Sheridan Road, through Kenilworth/Winnetka neighborhoods or along the Green Bay Trail or south through Evanston and Northwestern depending on weather and sidewalk/road conditions; we usually start at 7 AM from the Starbucks in Plaza del Lago.
Those showing upto run plan the distance and route, with optional breakfast or coffee afterwards. Meeting location and times change seasonally. Please check the Calendar Page or scroll down this page to Up Coming Events and our Weather Policy. WEEK DAY RUNS We run eitherTuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday depending on the season and the training objectives. “Official” TeamNorth Shore weekday runs start at 5:50 AM and are done by 7 AM. These runs may be recovery runs, tempo runs, hill runs or track intervals; they may be just for fun or coached. They may start at Plaza del Lago (Starbucks), Elder Park, Tower Beach Park, the New Trier track or the Wilmette Metra Station. Unofficially, some of our members run on different days, later in the morning or link up with another team member for weekday runs. Meeting location and times change seasonally. Please check the Calendar Page or scroll down this page to Up Coming Events and our WeatherPolicy.
PROFESSIONAL COACHING Coach GillShumaker is certified by the RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) as a running coach and is also a certified ChiRunning and ChiWalking instructor. Coach Gill provides coaching free ofcharge to Team NorthShore members who desire it on any of the regularly scheduled group runs. In addition, he offers fee-based core training and intensive race-focused training to TeamNorth Shore members and non-members through Northshore Fitness Coaching.
PARTIES We celebrate success. We usually have a summer party (June or July), a post marathon party (October) and an end-of-season/awards party (November). And we’re always receptive to a good excuse to have a party related to a running, fitness or health event.

HOW TO JOIN US
WEATHER POLICY RAIN We will run in the rain, but we will not run if lightning is present. If the run has not yet started, we will wait a reasonable amount of time to determine if the bad weather will pass or if the run should be canceled. HEAT We will run in hot weather. However, runners are advised to slow their pace and hydrate more frequently. SNOW We will run in the cold and snow. However, runners are advised to dress adequately for conditions (layers, hat, gloves) and to pay attention to the potential for icy spots and poor traction.
