"3 PEAT" BACK to BACK to BACK

Team Crossover Elite 15u the best in Delaware???

Is TCE 15u the best out of Delaware??  Only time can tell now. Coming of 2 titles in a row, they were out to show why they are one of the best teams in Delaware.  Last weekend (May 2-3) they were in Delaware Defenders tournament (May Jam) and the results were the same.  Their first game was against a very good team from Chester (Chester Co Royals).  They didn't bring their AGAME, losing to this team by 3 points; Coach Ty was putting together a game plan.  "We attack and finish" and that’s what they did.

Their second match up was Philly Panthers.  This team was very tall and fast.  TCE came out with great defense lead by Tommy Collins who also added 7 points. The offense was lead by Tim Massado with 17 points 4 steals and a hand full of rebounds. Provee Williams added 14 points 6 rebounds and 7 assist, along with Shawn Mitchell's 9 points and 2 steal, Davherl Crosby and Brandon Lewis both had 6 points and 8 boards.  They all played their part and with the game coming down to the last shot taken by Tim Massado to win in regulation 61-59 this team showed they know how to win close games.

Finishing Sat at 1-1 their first game on Sunday was at 8:30am, but they came out playing like it was in the afternoon.  This game was no match for them from the start.  They were too fast and too skilled for the Pal Cougars winning this game by 24 points 60-36. Lead by Jordon Harmon with 23 points and 6 rebounds, Provee Williams added 9 points 7 assists and 3 rebounds, Dario Davis (DJ) and Tim Massado added 7 points, Brandon Lewis and Juwan Park contributed 6 points.  This was a well balance point scoring game for TCE.  Tommy Collins, Shawn Mitchell and Davherl Crosby DNP, and was not really needed for this game.

So now it was a wait for them to see who they play in the Final Four.  I don't think no one wanted to play this team after winning two straights games now they were rolling.  It came down to TCE VS Diamond State Kings and Defenders VS Chester Co Royals.  Two great match ups with all 4 teams with one thing on their mines the championship trophies.  TCE and the Kings were up and with guard Parrish Ridway-Higgs the number one scorer in this tournament avg 30 points per game the way this game was going to be determined was by defense.  So Coach Ty put Tommy Collins TCE's defensive stopper on Parrish.  Collins limited Parrish to scoring only 8 points.  Now with Parrish out of the game, the Kings had now answer, losing by 21 points 71-50.  TCE was lead by Shawn Mitchell with 20 points 3 steals and 4 rebounds, Provee Williams added 18 points 6 boards and 5 dimes, Tim Massado had 12 points 7 rebounds and 6 assist, Brandon Lewis added 6 points and 7 boards.  Great Team effort!!!

The Championship games was next on the line for TCE and they were ready.  Facing the hosting team, TCE wanted to prove they can beat anybody.  The game was close at the beginning with both teams playing great defense, but TCE had an answer, Tommy Collins.  This kids maybe one of the best defenders at his age that I have ever seen in a while.  At half time the score was 29-27 with TCE up only 2.  TCE start the second half in man defense as you hear Collins screaming "I got him he is scared" and was putting so much pressure on the guards that they had turnover after turnover...turning defense into offensive basket.  Provee Williams lead TCE with 18 points and 5 assist and 6 rebounds, Shawn Mitchell added 11 points 4 assist and 3 steals, Brandon Lewis gave and excellent contribution with 11 points and 8 boards, Tommy Collins also added 7 points 4 steals and 4 boards, Tim Massado didn't get in as fars as scoring that much but played great defense, Davherl Crosby was a monster on the boards snatching down 8 and added 3 points.  This was a great game with Team Crossover Elite coming out on top 54-42.  Now you can determine this your self is this the best 15u team coming out of Delaware.  Up next the Charm City National Invitational in MD.

Team Crossover Elite’s 15U Wins Back to Back Tournament Titles

It has been nearly 2 months since TCE’s 15U squad played in a tournament but you couldn’t tell by the way they played at The Game Time Showcase in Elizabeth, NJ the weekend of April 18th.  After going to the Shore Classic 2 in Maryland back in February and bringing home the trophy, they tried to keep their winning streak in check in Northern New Jersey where the competition was fierce.

The team arrived a half hour before game time ready to take on The Shore Sharks who looked to be ready and willing to do whatever it took to take down TCE.  As the game began it didn’t take long for TCE to take control of the game with their pressure defense that led to 16 steals.  Five of those steals were led by Tim Massado who also added 12 pts in the team victory.  Once the lead was established, there was no turning back and Tommy Collins (15 pts, 3 steals) made sure of that by shooting 6 for 6 from the field and making 50% of his 3 pointers to take over the Shore Sharks 54-41.  Other leaders were Shawn Mitchell who led with 4 assist and contributed 4 steals of his own and Provee Williams who added 11 pts and 3 steals.

By the time game 2 rolled around TCE were in a rhythm.  Their next opponent was SM Select and Shawn Mitchell came out on fire shooting 7 for 10 from the field, making 50% from the 3 point line scoring 21 points and adding 5 steals in their 60-40 massacre over the SM Select.  Provee Williams was also a driving factor by playing big on the boards and taking it to the rim for 16 pts and 5 rebounds. Also in the spot light was Davherl Crosby.  He came to light hitting the boards hard with 9 rebounds and adding in 10 points.  By this time you could really tell that TCE was the team to beat in this tournament.  They went on to win their 3rd game of the day and was getting ready for their championship game that was being held the next day.

The championship game was proved to be easy for the team as they went on to beat their opponent 53-31.  Coach Ty Taylor had the team attacking the court at every angle and it showed in their play.  Tim Massado played extremely well pouring in 19 points along with 4 steals.  Shawn Mitchell wasn’t selfish with the ball either.  He and Massado played like Batman and Robin and hooked up on numerous fast break points and delivered that one two punch the other team didn’t see coming.  You could tell TCE had the discipline and desire to win behind the coaching skills of Ty Taylor.  Coach Taylor bought these boys here with a purpose and they delivered under his command.

TEAM CROSSOVER ELITE'S 12U SHOWING GREAT SIGNS

This is a new season, new group of players.  There are a couple of kids that came back from last year that didn't move up to the 14u team but for the most part its a new group.  On Apr 24-26 TCE 12u team played in Bethlehem PA in the Mid-Alantic Elite Classic.  Great location, great food and was ran to perfection.  This was a tournament that once you left you wanted to leave with a mark, thats said who you were and where you came from.  TCE left that mark, they started off rocky, even though they won the game there were somethings that was not right.  For one Coach Ali had only 5 kids that were able to play this week so he was short handed, and it showed on the court.  Lead by their veteran forward Myles Dowling he need help.  Myles was very active on the court, scoring 21 points and grabbing all the boards in his first game he showed he can lead this team.  Kawan Spencer is a very good guard and can lead the floor well, with a little more playing time together these two guys can take this team very far.  Jaimir Waters also pinched in with 8 boards, 1 block shot and 4 points to help with the win 35-29.  They finshed Saturday off with a 1-1 record losing the second game 39-49.  Myles Dowling had 11 points along with Raquan Briscoe who added 11 points.  Jaimir Waters was the high man with 12 points.  So starting Sunday morning off they knew they had to come out and win in order to go to the Championship.  Myles Dowling and Kawan Spencer was ready.  This was a very close game.  TCE was playing great, but they were tired.  playing with only the men he had on the floor Coach Ali did his best to coach them to victory.  they came up short at the end losing 39-36.  Kawan Spencer had 11 points and a host of assist.  Myles Dowling added 10 points but this was not enough.  They looked good and with some more practice they will be much better.

TCE 16U Fall One Game Short of Second Tournament Title

TCE’s 16U fell right into the same category as the 15U team as far as the last time they had tournament action.  They too took home the championship trophy from the Shore Classic 2 tournament in Maryland and wanted to come to Northern New Jersey to do the same.  The competition was tough and TCE seemed to lack the size match up with the other teams that were there, but in the end they held their own as a team not to be taken lightly.

Their first game didn’t come until mid afternoon so they started off a little rusty against the New Jersey Spartans.  In fact, after TCE scored on one free throw, the Spartans went on a 20-0 run and was up 20-1 ten minutes into the game.  This left the team confused and frustrated on where they were going to get their points from.  Then TCE settled down and started to make their come back.  Tyree Winfield who had a monster game started that come back by hitting two 3 pointers back to back and gave the team confidence to make their run.  Shalier Sullivan then made a couple of fast break layups that was led by the fast break explosiveness of Lashawn Washington who had 4 steals and 2 assist.  Also on the delivering end was Jamar Mundy who made a few key free throws to bring us back to within 4 points by half time.  After half time resumed you could tell TCE was hungry for a victory with Coach Rob Moore barking his defensive orders to the team.  They started to shut down the Spartans 3 point shooters and TCE’s Winfield continued with the hot hand and hit 3 more 18 foot jumpers.  Winfield led all scores with 12 points and commanded the boards with 11 rebounds.

As the game went on and the lead was being chipped away by TCE, they finally took the lead with less than a minute left in the game with Shalier Sullivan making a layup off a fast break.  After two key turnovers by TCE, the Spartans were up by 2 with 8 seconds left in the game and TCE taking the ball out of bounds for a last second shot to try for overtime.  As the ball was handed to Winfield, Jamar Mundy was called for an illegal screen and TCE’s chances of winning were taken away and they lost 46-44 in one of their greatest comebacks to date.

With only 1 hour rest from the first game, TCE was ready for action against The Jersey Shore Hurricanes.  They took no chances as they dominated the whole game and didn’t let up on defensive as they showed the Hurricanes that size didn’t matter.  Shalier Sullivan had the hot hand shooting 6 for 10 from the field (15 points) and grabbing 11 boards leading the team to a 67-54 victory.  Other players in double figures were Jermaine Boardingham (12 points), Jamar Mundy (12 points), and Lashawn Washington (13 points).  Tyree Winfield also had great defensive presence with 3 blocks and helped Sullivan on the boards with 5 rebounds.

Game 3 for the day also began only 1 hour after their second game.  Their next opponent, The Sports University, looked ready and willing to do whatever it took to take down TCE.  The game was pretty even throughout with both teams switching leads back and forth.  TCE was led by the explosiveness of Jamar Mundy who took matters into his own hands.  He made 6 for 10 from the field with all of them being made by driving to the rim.  He also was 4 for 4 from the free throw line and led all scores with 16 points.  Mundy, along with Jermaine Boardingham who helped out with 12 points (shooting 4 for 4), were the deciding factors in their 52-49 victory over The Sports University.  Another TCE player who wasn’t much of an offensive factor but played supreme defense was Darnell Hammond who led the team with 4 steals that led to 8 fast break points.

After winning two straight, TCE was ready for their constellation game the next day against the Elizabeth Giants and giants they were.  TCE had to defend against 2 players that were 6’6” while TCE’s tallest player is 6’3” (Tyree Winfield).  The game started out slow, but Lashawn Littles put on a clinic driving to the basket at will to pour in 12 points (lead scorer).  Washington was not alone as Tyree Winfield was trying to contain 2 giants in the paint and managed to snatch 10 boards and score 8 points behind Washington.

The game seemed to go TCE’s way but the Giants always stayed close.  Jamar Mundy kept them at bay for a little while with great defense leading the team with 4 steals, but the game came down to the last second.  With TCE up 41-39 and 1:10 on the clock, The Elizabeth Giants big men went to work on the offensive boards and tied the game up at 41 a piece.  Then Jermaine Boardingham made a key basket with a drive to the left side of the basket with :35 seconds left in the game.  But again, the Giants big man made another tough layup in the paint while great defense was being played by Winfield and Shalier Sullivan who was trying their best to contain this beast.  The score was then tied at 43-43.  Coach Rob Moore then called a time out and constructed a last shot effort with :17 seconds left on the scoreboard.  The ball was thrown in by Winfield and was worked around the perimeter to get a good shot off.  As the ball was working from left to right, Washington caught Sullivan on the right wing where Sullivan threw a fake shot to get his man in the air and then drove to the basket for a tough contested lay-up with :08 seconds left in the game.  The Giants then called their last timeout and TCE knew they were going to try and go to one of their big men.  As they inbounded the ball, they immediately tried to go inside, but Winfield and Sullivan had great position on their man so they decided on the outside shot with :02 seconds left.  The ball bounced on the rim and came off the left side where Winfield grabbed the rebound and held on until the buzzer went off.  Final score, TCE wins 45-43.

Team Crossover Elite Wins!!!

Ben Jones Holiday Tournament

Its a new year, new group of kids, new goals but the same out come WINNING.  This past weekend has showed all the hard work and dedication this organization has put in.  The 15u was in a tournament the city hosted and they came out to prove a point.  Hearing so much of what they can't do and last year was a fluke, "we want to show them they can't pre judge anybody; We are kids and they want us to lose so bad.  Coach Rob and Coach Ali and the other coaches are our friends, mentors and father figures.  They have shown us that we can do anything we want.  We take this as a challenge, so every time we get on the court we are out to prove to ourselves, our coaches but most importantly we want to prove it to those people that said we can't do it", said Davherl Crosby.  The Championship game was on Tuesday Dec 30 at 4:00.  They played hard, they played their game (fast).  CCOD (the other team in the championship) didn't have a chance with this group.  They were over matched from the tip off.  They finished the game and won by 40...This team is serious.   2009 will be a great year for this organization.

Coach Rob's thoughts; "Its really a shame for people to be in power or a position that are supposed to do things for our kids, but in the same breathe are only trying to put money in their pockets while having people think they did or are doing so much.  Its not about YOU.  (TCE) has had to over come so much within this first year.  No matter what they try to do, we will succeed;  which has been proven since our organization started on November 27, 2007.  Just think, a year ago this team, this organization was not around.  With people stereotyping kids before giving them a chance, this organization was counted out.  "They will never make it", "he's not from here", "he needs help from me", is what I was hearing from people that were supposed to be about kids.  Why did it take us to win Championships from different STATES, bringing them back to Wilmington before people wanted to help me help our kids?  The things I do within my organization are for the kids, not for me.  Helping kids is my calling.

Open your eyes you will be hearing more from this organization for years to come.

Tyranny of Champions

What a great experience the (TCE) kids had over the holiday weekend.  "We are almost there" Coach Ali said.   Playing in a tournament where every team in this tournament has been playing together for more than 3 plus years.  Team Crossover Elite played their hearts out.  With a little recognition from last year, (TCE) walked in the gym with everyone asking, "where are they from"?  NOW they know.  They are from Wilmington DE, a small city only 25 minutes from Philly.  A place where a new organization (TCE) has put together a group of coaches and players that are determined to win.  "We teach our kids that its not about winning all the time.  As long as you can say I gave it my best, that's all that matters", said Coach Rob.  This team can walk away from this tournament feeling great.  There is no reason for anyone on the team to put their heads down.  The team was lead by their outstanding shooting guard JoJo Cooper.  JoJo is something special, he is the leader on the floor.  He needs to work on little things to become that complete player, but he played great.  Power forward, Will Massado was a monster on the boards.  He was so determined to win; he wanted to do it all.  With the help from the rest of the team Laqwin Stewart, Dashawn Dorsett, Q, Marquies Brown , Zeke Shockley, A-5, Maurice Boyer, Trevon (10 years old) and the rest of the team, defense was the key to this tournament.  They played in this tournament like they have been playing together for years and its only been 2
