Kenny Linn Named Coach Of the Year
Tallmadge, Ohio
The Blue and Gold honored their Spring athletes recently at the annual awards banquet. All-League honors were also passed out and the Blue Devils were represented well on this seasons squad. Head Coach Kenny Linn was named the Suburban League Coach of the Year for the third year in a row after leading Tallmadge to their third straight league title compiling a 22-4-1 record including a perfect 13-0 mark in league games.
Senior's Joe Cochran, Matt Keen and Paul Pakan were named to the league's first team. Cochran batted .364 with a team high 33 RBI's including 2 HR's and 6 doubles. The senior right hander also appeared nine times on the mound for THS finishing at 3-2 with a 2.60 era. Paul Pakan earned first team honors for the second year in a row after compiling a .390 batting average. Pakan had a team high 11 doubles, as well as 25 RBI's. Pakan drew 20 walks and had an impressive .495 on base percentage. Senior Matt Keen put together arguably one of the most productive seasons in THS history. The right hander was perfect on the mound with a 7-0 record and a miniscule 1.69 era. Offensively Keen led the team in nine different categories. Matt batted .471 with 40 hits on the season scoring 43 runs in 27 games. Keen had four HR's, and was 21-22 in stolen bases with 10 doubles and an incredible .570 on base percentage.
Junior Brian Kilway as well as seniors AJ Williams and Patrick Kilway were named to the All-League second team. Brian Kilway compiled a 5-1 record facing the best of the best that the tough THS schedule had to offer, including a win over St. Ed's and a complete game shutout of Copley in the sectional final. Kilway finished the season with 45 K's in 39 innings. Senior AJ Williams played a solid third base for Tallmadge and batted .353 on the season. AJ drove in 21 runs and had an on base percentage of .467 with 19 walks. Catcher Patrick Kilway appeared in 26 of 27 games behind the plate for the Devils and threw out 43% of the base stealers on the year. Offensively Kilway batted .366 with 24 RBI's and 8 doubles.
Senior Dustin Burns and freshman Tucker Linder were named Honorable Mention All-League. Burns a speedy sure handed outfielder for the Blue Devils batted .350 with 16 RBI's and 4 doubles and swiped six bases on the year. Burns saw limited action on the mound compiling a 1-0 record with one save in 10 innings of work. Tucker Linder finished his rookie season with a 6-0 record in six starts for Tallmadge. Linder struck out 39 batters in 35 innings holding opponents to a .230 batting average enroute to a 2.60 era.
Over the past three seasons the Blue Devils have compiled a 68-15 record. THS finished 21-7 in 2007, 25-4 in 2008 and 22-4-1 this past year. They were twice District runner-up to eventual state champions and have a string of three straight Suburban League titles. This years team is one of only a handful that have completed league play without a loss.

It's Official...Season Comes to an End
Final Game vs Green Cancelled
Tallmadge,Ohio
The 2009 season has come to an end for the Blue and Gold. A tentative final regular season league matchup against Green has been cancelled at the agreement of all involved. The contest would have no impact on league standings and with Green still competing in District play the Blue Devils head coach Kenny Linn agreed to let the Bulldogs forego the final game. Tallmadge ends the year an impressive 22-4-1 and 13-0 in Suburban League play. Tallmadge has won three straight Suburban League titles and four in the last five seasons. THS has also strung together three straight 20 win seasons.

Blue Devils Claim Outright Title
Bulldogs... All Bark, No Bite, THS Wins 13-6
Green, Ohio
Two teams with a lot to play for, but both maybe lacking the proper focus, met at Green High School Tuesday night. The much anticipated matchup never met the hype as Tallmadge (22-4-1, 13-0) tightened the leash from the first inning and never let up enroute to a convincing 13-6 win. It is the third straight title for the Devils and four in the last five years. No one can blame either team if they we're a bit on the unfocused side. Tallmadge was still feeling the sting of an upset loss in the District Semi-final on Monday, while Green may have been looking forward to it's Division I District Semi-final matchup with Glen Oak scheduled for Thursday.
Saving some of their pitching for the District may have cost the Bulldogs a shot at a share of the Suburban League title. It didn't seem to matter much to the Blue Devils who put 26 men on base in the seven inning game. THS punched out nine hits, collected 11 walks and were hit by Green pitchers four times. When the Bulldog pitcher's were able to find the plate the Blue Devils hit the ball and hit it hard. Paul Pakan was 3 for 3 with a single, two doubles, two walks and two RBI's. Matt Keen had two singles, two walks and two RBI's. Joe Cochran blew the game open in the third inning with a towering shot over the 20 foot fence in left field for a three run dinger. Dustin Burns, AJ Williams, and Shane Gromley all had singles for THS. Pat Kilway reached base five times without a hit. Kilway was hit by a pitch twice, walked twice and reached on an error.
Tallmadge opened the game scoring twice in the top of the first. Keen walked, Williams singled and Pakan singled Keen home. Williams would score on a 5-4-3 double play by the Bulldogs. Williams would draw a two out walk in the top of the second, Pakan also walked and with two outs Cochran elevated a fastball out of the park to left for a 5-0 lead. Green scored a single tally in the bottom of the second and the fourth to make it a 5-2 Tallmadge advantage after four complete innings. The Devils would increase their lead to 7-2 in the top of the fifth. Keen who had singled to start the inning came home on the first of two Pakan triples to right center. Pakan would later score on a wild pitch. Green would score twice in the bottom of the fifth loading the bases with a hit batter, an error and a base hit. Keen was pulled for Tucker Linder who struckout the first batter he faced but a ball four got past the catcher and two runs scored. Linder struckout the next batter to end the threat. Tallmadge led 8-4 adding a run on a Keen RBI single in the sixth. Green would battle back using a walk, a triple and a groundout to plate two runs off Linder. Tallmadge would put the game out of reach with a five run seventh. Brian Kilway worked the final inning in relief for Tallmadge. Senior Matt Keen got the win for the Blue Devils and is a perfect 7-0 on the season.
The Blue Devils and Green will play the final game of the season at Dave Young Field either Friday or Saturday depending on the outcome of Green's District game on Thursday.

The Blue Devils will have little time to lament over their loss to Field in Division II District play as they travel to Green tonight (Tuesday) to ward off the Bulldogs who are hoping to get a piece of the Suburban League regular season crown. The game moved due to District play will start at 4:30pm. Tallmadge has a perfect 12-0 mark in league play and has already earned at least a share of the title. No Field of Dreams
Falcons End Devils Tournament Run With 5-1 Win
Akron, Ohio
When it comes to tournament time it's not always the best team that wins, but it is often the team that performs best. The Field Falcons got the job done Monday night at Canal Park in the Division II District Semi-final behind an outstanding pitching performance by senior Cody Umbright. Field scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning breaking a 1-1 tie and advancing to the District Championship against Walsh with a 5-1 extra inning victory.
Senior Joe Cochran got the start for Tallmadge (21-4-1, 12-0) and matched his counterpart pitch for pitch through seven innings. Cochran gave up just four hits in seven innings of work striking out 11 and walking three. Umbright was just one inning better throwing a complete game three hitter, striking out nine and allowing just one walk. The Falcon right hander retired the first nine Devil batters that came to the plate. Cochran allowed just two hits and had five K's through four innings. Matt Keen singled to right field to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning and stole second with one out. Keen moved to third on a groundout to short by Paul Pakan. With Umbright in the windup after two outs and following several bluffs from third on the first two pitches Keen broke for home as the senior pitcher began his delivery. The ball and Keen arrived at home simultaneously and the Field catcher couldn't catch the ball and apply the tag as Keen slid safely in for a 1-0 Tallmadge lead. It was the second time this year Keen has completed a straight steal of home in a game.
The lead off batter for Field walked to start the top of the sixth. An attempted pickoff throw from Cochran sailed wide and the runner advanced to second with no outs. A groundball to second was bobbled and the Falcons had runners at first and third with nobody out. A slow grounder to first was just enough to push the unearned run across the plate and tie the game. Cochran looked strong in the top of the seventh retiring the side in order on three strikeouts. Umbright would face four batters in the bottom of the inning working around an error and sending the game into extra innings.
Field would start the top of the eighth with the top of their batting order. A double to center followed by a single to right and Cochrans work would be done. Keen came on in relief and hit the first batter he faced to load the bases. Down in the count 2-0, Keen threw a fastball to cleanup hitter Joe Adkins who lined a triple to the gap in right centerfield clearing the bases. Matt Perez would send Adkins to the plate with a sacrifice fly to rightfield completing a four run inning for Field. In defense of Keen, the righthander came from second base to the mound with little or no warmup and the Falcon hitters took advantage of the situation.
Tallmadge was held to just three hits in the game, two by Keen and one by Cochran, all singles. Field had five hits with three coming in the final inning.
While Tallmadge has bowed out of the state tournament, there is still a Suburban league title to be decided. THS and Green have a two game series remaining to decide if the Devils will share the league crown or win it outright. Tallmadge is 12-0 in league play while Green is 10-2. Green is scheduled to play Glen Oak in a Division I District Semi-final on Thursday. The teams will decide when those games will be played later this week. Tallmadge will honor its' seniors in their final home appearance later in the week versus Green.

Devils Tame Colts 12-1
Tallmadge Clinches Share of League Crown
Lodi, Ohio
Take care of the little things and everything else will fall into place. With business like efficiency Tallmadge (21-3-1, 12-0) disposed of Cloverleaf on Friday night 12-1. The win gives Tallmadge at least a share of their third straight Suburban League title and fourth in the last five seasons. THS has a two game lead over second place Green and the two teams will meet in the seasons final week.
Freshman Tucker Linder (6-0) started the game for Tallmadge but not until the teams and fans sat through an hour delay while waiting for umpires to show for the game. The delay may have had an effect on both starters as they each gave up a run in the first inning. Linder eventually settled in while the Colts starter was not so fortunate, thanks to the Tallmadge bats. Matt Keen picked up his first of three hits on the day leading off the top of the first. Following a stolen base and two wild pitches THS had their first run of the game. Cloverleaf responded quickly in the bottom of the first with a leadoff double followed by an RBI single. A 5-4-3 double play and a fly to rightfield would end the inning for the Colts with the game tied at 1-1. In the second Phil Emling reached on an error and back to back singles by Garrett Emling and Andrew Bonnette would load the bases. Keen would ground out for an RBI, AJ Williams singled home two runs and Paul Pakan used one of his two doubles to drive home another run. The Devils scored five runs in the second and five more in the third on six hits to lead 11-1 after three innings. After the first, Linder allowed just two hits and ended the day with four K's in four innings of work. Garrett Emling worked the fifth inning in relief. Tallmadge added a single run in the fourth for the 12-1 final in five innings.
Tallmadge hitters combined for 15 hits in the game just 24 hours after a 12 hit performance on Thursday against Revere. Matt Keen was 3-4 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Pakan doubled twice in three at bats and Williams added a pair of singles. Garrett and Phil Emling continue to tear up opposing pitching. Phil had a single, double and scored three times while Garrett singled twice and walked. Patrick Kilway had an RBI single and pinch hitter Matt Wellman singled in his only at bat.
The Blue Devils return to tournament play on Monday as they play the Field Falcons at Canal Park in the Division II district semi-final. First pitch is slated for 5pm. Hoban and Walsh meet in the other semi-final matchup at 7:30pm. The winners will return to Canal Park on Tuesday for the District final at 5pm.

And The Beat Goes On.....
Devils Roll to Another 20 Win Season, Stop Revere 10-1
Tallmadge, Ohio
After a nailbiter earlier in the week against Revere, Tallmadge left little doubt who was large and in charge on Thursday afternoon at Dave Young Field. THS pounded a depleted Minuteman pitching staff like it was batting practice enroute to a 10-1 Suburban league victory improving to 20-3-1 including a perfect 11-0 mark in league play. Tallmadge can clinch a share of their third straight title with a win tomorrow night at Cloverleaf.
Senior Joe Cochran got the start for Tallmadge and made one mistake in three innings of work. Cochran faced one batter over the limit giving up a solo homerun to Mike Monte in the top of the second. Senior Dustin Burns came on in relief and got the win going four innings of shutout baseball scattering three hits.
The 1-0 lead in the top of the second was shortlived as The Circle City Boys used a little longball of their own. Burns reached after a bobble by the shortstop and rode home on a Phil Emling bomb over the fence in leftfield. The Blue and Gold would put the game away in the bottom of the third sending 11 batters to the plate scoring seven runs. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of the other Emling...Garrett. After a solo homerun earlier in the week at Revere in a 4-3 Tallmadge win, Emling did himself one better smashing a grandslam over the fence in rightfield. THS had six hits in the inning including four doubles. The Devils would add an insurance run on a pinch hit Shane Gromley double scoring Pat Kilway.
Everybody got into the act offensively for Tallmadge who finished with 12 hits. Cochran, AJ Williams and Burns each had two hits on the day. Paul Pakan and Patrick Kilway each had a double. Matt Keen also had a single. The 7-8-9 hitters for Tallmadge drove in eight runs.
Tallmadge will head to Cloverleaf on Friday afternoon to take on the Colts with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30PM.

Kilway KO's Copley 2-0
Tallmadge Wins Sectional Title, Field Next
Tallmadge, Ohio
The Tallmadge Blue Devils (19-3-1, 10-0) completed step one Tuesday Night laying claim to the Sectional title with a 2-0 win over Copley at Dave Young Field. Tallmadge made the best of six hits scoring single runs in the first and third innings and junior pitching ace Brian Kilway (5-1) did the rest limiting the Indians to just four hits, striking out seven in the complete game shutout. The righthander got stronger as the game went on retiring seven of the last eight batters he faced including the final three outs of the game on strikeouts.
The Devils leadoff batter Matt Keen lined a single to center to start the game and moved to second on a passed ball. Keen moved to third on a wild pitch strikeout and scored when senior Paul Pakan drove a ball deep to right field good enough for a sacrifice fly and a 1-0 THS lead. Keen would be the straw that stirs the drink once again in the bottom of the third when he led off the inning with a double to the right centerfield gap. Two hole hitter AJ Williams dropped a perfect bunt down the third base line. The Copley pitcher picked up the ball and threw late and wide to first base and as the ball rolled toward the visiting bullpen Keen raced home from third. Tallmadge would strand five runners over the final three innings.
The Indians threatened on several occaisions but Kilway and the Devil defense refused to give up a run. Copley stranded seven runners on base. Matt Keen carried the offense with two of the six hits and scored both Tallmadge runs. AJ Williams, Phil Emling, Garrett Emling and Dustin Burns each singled for the Devils.
Tallmadge will now advance to the Disrict Semi-Final on Monday night at Canal Park where they will take on the Field Falcons who advanced with a 3-1 win over St. Vincent-St. Mary. The first pitch is slated for 5PM, with Walsh and Hoban meeting in the other District matchup. The winners will advance to Tuesday nights final at 5PM.
NOTES:The Tallmadge-Cloverleaf makeup game has been rescheduled for Friday, May 15th at Cloverleaf. Tallmadge and Revere will finish their series on Thursday at Dave Young Field at 430PM. The magic number for The Devils to clinch an outright Suburban League Title is three...any combination of Tallmadge wins and Green losses totaling three will give the crown to the Devils. For a share of the crown the magic number is two. THS has a two game lead with four to play. Tallmadge and Green will meet twice in the final week of the regular season.

Just Another Tallmadge-Revere Game
Devils Win 4-3 Behind Keen Complete Game
Revere, Ohio
It was a typical Tallmadge-Revere ballgame between two of the Leagues' top teams. Tallmadge jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and hung on for a hard fought 4-3 win on the road Monday night. Senior pitcher Matt Keen threw his team high third complete game of the season allowing 3 runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking only one improving to 6-0 on the season.
The #12 Blue Devils (18-3-1, 10-0) got on the board in the top of the second after Pat Kilway led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and rode home on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Dustin Burns. With two outs in the inning junior Garrett Emling crushed a ball to the gap in right centerfield that landed under the football bleachers beyond the fence. The Circle City Boys came right back in the top of the third scoring two more runs. AJ Williams led off with a single and scored from first on a Paul Pakan triple to the fence in left centerfield. Pakan scored on a Joe Cochran sacrifice fly to leftfield.
Revere would cut the 4-0 lead in half in the bottom of the fourth bunching together a single, triple and a groundout RBI. Keen would respond by blanking the Minutemen over the next two and a half innings retiring 10 of 12 batters he faced. Refusing to go quietly Revere would put runners on first and third with back to back one out singles in their final at bat. A pinch hit sacrifice fly would make it 4-3 with the tying run remaining at first. Keen would end the game in dramatic fashion with a perfect breaking ball strike three called. Just one pitch earlier the Revere batter lined a would be double just inches foul down the left field line. At a minimum it would have put runners at 2nd and 3rd and could have possibly tied the game.
Inspite of lining baseballs all over the field throughout the game Tallmadge was outhit by the host team seven to six. Four of the Blue Devil hits went for extra bases including the homerun by Emling, Pakan's triple, and doubles by Phil Emling and Pat Kilway. AJ Williams and Dustin Burns added singles for THS.
Tallmadge will return home Tuesday to host the Sectional Final against the winner of the Copley/Buchtel first round matchup. It will be the second of four games in four days as Tallmadge will return to league play Wednesday traveling to Cloverleaf and hosting Revere at Dave Young Field on Thursday.

Devils Hang on for Win Over Hudson 8-6
Burns Snuffs Explorer Late Rally
Kent, Ohio
It was supposed to be Cannon McMillen from Pennsylvania, then St. Ignatius from Cleveland and by gametime it was Hudson from Hudson. The Blue and Gold were desperate to find somebody to play and after two teams backed out of the Thursday afternoon affair Tallmadge (17-3-1, 9-0) found an opponent in their own backyard. The Blue Devils were on cruise control looking to put a pre-prom bow on an 8-3 win but Hudson had other ideas as they came to the plate in the top of the seventh at Schoonover Stadium in Kent.
Starting pitcher Joe Cochran completed four innings of work giving up six hits, 3 runs (2 earned) and striking out a pair and left the game with Tallmadge leading 7-3. Brian Kilway pitched two perfect innings facing six batters and striking out four. Garrett Emling who has been solid all season out of the Tallmadge pen gave up two walks and three singles without getting an out in the final inning. Senior Dustin Burns replaced Emling with runners on 2nd and 3rd, no outs, and the Circle City Boys clinging to an 8-6 lead. Burns induced back to back ground balls back to the mound and struckout the final Explorer to pick up his first save of the season and a huge save for the Blue Devil cause.
Tallmadge scored twice in the bottom of the first when Cochran hit a triple to right center scoring Paul Pakan who had reached on a two out walk. Patrick Kilway picked up Cochran from third with a two out single. Hudson would make it 2-1 in the top of the second inning stringing together a single and an RBI double. THS senior Paul Pakan led off the third with a triple to the wall in center and rode home on a Kilway sacrifice fly. Cochran who reached on a walk was pushed to third by the second single of the day off the bat of Phillip Emling. Burns singled scoring Cochran and Tallmadge led 4-1 after three innings. Hudson would score twice in the top of the fourth taking advantage of a Tallmadge error and three straight singles. Jake Patrick led off the fourth with a single and was erased on a fielders choice. Matt Keen stole second, AJ Williams walked and they both scored on a Pakan double. Cochran would pick up his second RBI of the day with a single that scored Pakan. THS would score their final run of the game in the sixth following a leadoff double by Patrick who eventually moved to third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Pakan.
The locals had ten hits on the day including four for extra bases. Pakan was 2-2 with 3 RBI's and scored three times. Patrick Kilway had a single and two RBI's, Phillip Emling had two singles and Jake Patrick was 2 for 3 with a single and a double. Joe Cochran had a single, a triple, 2 RBI's and scored twice. Burns also added an RBI single to the stat sheet.
Tallmadge will take the weekend off before playing Revere on Monday and following that up with a sectional final against Copley or Buchtel.

Devils Circle Wagons Stop Indians 9-4
Keen Pitches, Hits Tallmadge to 9-0 League Mark
Copley, Ohio
Matt Keen threw five innings of three hit baseball and offensively had as many hits as Copley did including his fourth homerun of the season. Keen improved to 5-0 on the season and owns an impressive 0.97 ERA. Even those numbers can't overshadow the season the senior is having at the plate. Keen was a big part of the offense that led Tallmadge (16-3-1, 9-0) to a 9-4 league win at Copley on Tuesday night. The senior was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's, scored three runs and picked up his team best 16th stolen base of the season.
Tallmadge found themselves trailing 1-0 after one inning but Copley's lead would be shortlived as The Circle City Boys scored three runs in the second and third innings to give Keen more runs than he would need. Tallmadge feasted on Copley pitching connecting for 16 hits in the game. AJ Williams had three singles and 2 RBI's. Senior Paul Pakan had two singles and two walks. Opposing pitchers continue to work around Pakan who now has a team high 17 walks on the season. Junior Phil Emling continues to hit well since being inserted into the lineup. Emling collected a double and two singles and drove in a run. Garrett Emling continues to emerge from an early season slump adding two singles to the THS offense. Joe Cochran picked up an RBI with a double while catcher Patrick Kilway had three RBI's on a fielder's choice and a two run double. Senior outfielder Jake Patrick had a double and scored twice for the Blue and Gold.
Tallmadge sent a message to Copley with the two game sweep. The Indians and Blue Devils may meet in the Sectional Final on Tuesday if Copley advances. Tallmadge will meet St. Ignatius on Thursday afternoon at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium on the campus of Kent State University, 5PM first pitch. Ignatius was beaten by Walsh on Tuesday night 2-1. Tallmadge lost earlier this year to Ignatius 3-1 in Columbus.

Sixth Inning Explosion Downs Copley 7-1
Tallmadge Remains Perfect in League Play Now 8-0
Tallmadge, Ohio
A pitchers dual quickly turned ugly for Copley when Tallmadge (15-3-1, 8-0) exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning enroute to a 7-1 Suburban League victory at Dave Young Field Monday night. Freshman Tucker Linder (5-0) got the win for the Blue and Gold going six innings allowing just two hits while striking out eight Indians. Junior Phillip Emling struckout the side in the seventh for THS.
Copley loaded the bases in the first inning but came up empty as Linder gave up a hit and two walks in the inning but didn't allow a run. Copley scored a run in the top of the second on a walk, a single and a wild pitch. Linder settled in retiring 11 straight batters, including six strikeouts. After the second Copley had just one ball hit out of the infield, a fly ball out to right field.
The Circle City Boys were held to just one hit through four innings but came through with a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Garrett Emling singled to center to lead off the inning and moved to second on a perfect sacrifice bunt off the bat of Jake Patrick. Shane Gromley was called on to pinch hit and came through with an RBI double to the gap in left center field scoring Emling. Senior Paul Pakan walked to begin the bottom of the sixth and cleanup hitter Joe Cochran pushed him to third with a single to right field. Patrick Kilway put Tallmadge ahead for good with an RBI single through the left side. Phillip Emling singled up the middle for two RBI's and Garrett Emling picked up his third hit of the day and the fourth straight hit of the inning for Tallmadge. Matt Keen singled home a run and AJ Williams followed with an RBI single of his own as THS sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning. Phillip Emling came on to slam the door in the top of the seventh striking out the side. Tallmadge finished the game with nine hits, four belonging to the Emling family. Garrett was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored and Phillip picked up two RBI's with a single.
The Blue Devils and Indians will face off again at Copley on Tuesday, first pitch scheduled for 4:30pm.

State Ranked Teams Play to Draw
Tallmadge, Canfield Battle to 8-8 Tie at Eastwood Field
Niles, Ohio
Two of the top teams in their divisions statewide took to Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio for a non-conference matchup Friday night. Under cloudy skies to start the game and ending in a torrential downpour Tallmadge and Canfield battled pitch for pitch, hit for hit and run for run, before the game was finally called after seven innings with the score all even at 8-8.
Tallmadge lit up the scoreboard early jumping out to a three run lead in the top of the first inning. Matt Keen continued his hot hitting, leading off the game with a single. AJ Williams moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. With two outs Joe Cochran walked and Tallmadge would string together three straight hits and score three runs. Patrick Kilway, Dustin Burns and Phillip Emling all singled for the Blue Devils. Tallmadge would build their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second when Keen singled with one out, Paul Pakan drew a two out walk and both runners came home on a Cochran double to right field. Unfortunately for the Blue Devils that would be their last hit of the night.
Canfield scored twice in the bottom of the second inning on two singles and a two run RBI double. The Cardinals would tie the game with three more runs in the bottom of the third inning on four hits. Tallmadge would regain the lead at 7-5 scoring twice in the top of the fourth without the benefit of a hit. Left fielder Andrew Bonnette led off the inning with a walk and Keen reached base for the third time after being hit by a pitch. Williams again laid down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Pakan walked for the second time in the game to load the bases. Cochran walked to push Bonnette across the plate for the first run in the inning. After a pop out to shortstop Matt Keen provided the play of the day. With the bases loaded and the Cardinal pitcher going with a full windup Keen saw his chance and broke for home from third. The senior second baseman slid in home ahead of the pitch and under the tag of the Canfield catcher for a picture perfect steal of home.
Canfield would draw to within one at 7-6 with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth. Tallmadge would score a single run in the top of the sixth after Keen reached for the fourth time in the game and eventually came home on a Cochran sacrifice fly to right field. Once again Canfield answered in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs to tie the game on three hits. Neither team could score in the seventh and as the rain continued to fall, both coaches decided enough was enough and the game was called a draw.
Tallmadge returns to league play on Monday as they take on Copley.

Sweep Complete! Devils Win 4-2
Keen Goes Distance in Win Over Wadsworth
Wadsworth, Ohio
Good things happen to those who wait or so the saying goes. Head Coach Kenny Linn wishes the Blue Devils wouldn't wait until their last at bat to win a game, it might be easier on his heart. Tied at two Tallmadge saved their best for last scoring twice in the top of the seventh for a 4-2 win on the road in Suburban League play Wednesday night in Wadsworth. Matt Keen (4-0) pitched a complete game gem striking out seven Grizzlies and allowing just six singles on the day. Both runs were unearned. It's Keen's second complete game of the season and he battled Wadsworth's Jordan Cutting to the final out. Cutting struck out eight Devils lasting 6 and a 1/3 innings.
Both pitchers were throwing well and the game was scoreless heading into the top of the fifth when Tallmadge (14-3, 7-0) opened the scoring with two runs. Andrew Powelson reached first after a strike three wild pitch. Garrett Emling laid down a perfect bunt and the Wadsworth third baseman overthrew the first baseman and Tallmadge was in business with runners at 2nd and 3rd. Matt Keen hit a groundball into the hole at short and everybody was safe without a throw. Emling got caught in a run down on an attempted squeeze play gone bad as Keen moved to third. Keen would score the second run of the inning on a wild pitch. Wadsworth would score two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
In the top of the seventh Keen drew a one out walk. Shane Gromley worked a 3-2 count and bounced a single up the middle putting runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. Freshman Danny Blake came on to pinch run at first. After an infield pop up for the second out, Joe Cochran singled to left scoring Keen. Patrick Kilway followed with a single and Blake scored before Cochran was thrown out trying to get to third. Keen struckout two in the bottom of the seventh and got a groundball out and Tallmadge remains unbeaten in league play.
Tallmadge will travel to Cloverleaf for a makeup league contest against the Colts on Thursday at 4:30pm.

Tallmadge would be held to single runs in the fourth and sixth innings while LaSalle would break the game open scoring six times in the third through sixth innings. Tallmadge allowed eleven hits and had four errors in the game. Senior Joe Cochrane deserved a better fate but just couldn't get the out to get out of the first inning. Tallmadge, Ohio
Flowers, robins, taxes and rain...all signs of spring in Northeast Ohio. You can add "errors" to that list when it comes to high school baseball. Three hole hitter Paul Pakan would rip a hanging curveball over the left field fence for a 4-2 Tallmadge lead. Following a sacrifice bunt moving the runner to second, the Wildcat's Dave Gallagher drove a fastball over the center field fence for a 3-0 Ignatius lead. Kilway settled in striking out the side in the fifth. Freshman Tucker Linder pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Tallmadge struggled at the plate with just two hits, a double by Patrick Kilway and a perfect bunt single by Garrett Emling.
