The PASL showed its value to the MISL by having five players drafted in today's MISL draft, including the 3rd pick in the first round, Lee Williams of the Tacoma Stars. The USL division 1 had the most players drafted with 66, followed by the USL division 2 with 25. The PASL had 5 players selected, followed by the MLS with 4, the USL-PDL 1, and the self proclaimed 2nd division of indoor soccer, the AISL, had 1 player selected.

Lee Williams, who was scouted at the PASL International Finals in Tijuana, MX. last March by Monterrey Head Coach Erich Geyer, was selected by Monterrey. The Cougars selected several players from the Premier Arena Soccer League’s Pacific division. These include M Nathan Ford of the Tacoma Stars, D Josh Copeland of the Chico Bigfoot, and M Majer Alterado of the Sonoma Sol. Coach Lilavois said, “We have seen a lot of good local players in the PASL Pacific Division through our involvement with the Stockton Pumas, and wanted to reward some of their top performers with an opportunity to compete for a spot on the Cougars opening day roster.” Anthony Chimienti was selected with the 15th pick. Chimienti was listed as a discovery player, but was rostered with the Estadio Azteca All-Stars last winter in the PASL Pacific Division.

Williams who is obviously a very talented player, but relatively unknown, is typical of the "indoor soccer" talent in the PASL. "Players that play "indoor soccer" regularly are a known quantity, but a talented player who has mostly played outdoor, may not be able to transfer that talent to the indoor game." The PASL is doing "indoor soccer" year round, and will develop players that are ready for the MISL, so we do not have to try and guess if a player from outdoor can play indoor." This focus on indoor by the PASL needs to continue, so the MISL continues to have a resource for players as it continues to grow." Coach Erich Geyer stated at the PASL International Finals March 2007.

Monterrey Head Coach Erich Geyer on Lee Williams

Here are Erich Geyer's replies to some questions regarding Tacoma Stars Lee Williams: Coach Geyer can be reached at: erichgeyer@adelphia.net

Question: Why he was your #1 pick? Answer: to make a statement to everyone that PASL is for real and Lee will have to prove this. He knows, I've been in steady contact with him since Tijuana. I'm looking forward to coach him in Monterrey and I'm confident that he makes the roster for the 2007/2008 MISL season.

Question: What do you like most about his play? Answer: has a nose for goals inside the box. At the right time in the right place.

Question: Why did he stand out above the other players at the PASL Internationals in Tijuana? Answer: he did not stand out that much, but I liked his presence on the field, his size, cool no panic and consistency...up and down. defense and Offense. Also, he has a great personality.
