Thunder Extreme played their first State Cup game on Saturday against Freedom Fusion and won 4-1. However on Sunday, even after scoring the first goal in the first few minutes of the game and after overtime being tied 2-2, they lost in Penalty Kicks to the MSC Mustang. The game was very exciting to watch.

Semi-Finalists in VA Beach Tournament

On March 24 and 25th Thunder Extreme played in the Virginia Beach Spring Tournament. After attempting to play in VA Beach for two years on Columbus Day in the Fall (both cancelled due to heavy rain), the team decided to try one more time, this time playing in the Spring. The weather held and the girls played in the Premier division against teams from New Hampshire, Massachuetts, and North Carolina.

Saturday, March 17
Snow Soccer in March

The girls played in The Arlington Spring Invitational in Virginia this weekend.
The wintry mix in Arlington left 1/2 inch of snow on most of the fields.
Other tournaments in the area cancelled their tournaments. This tournament
was still held and the girls played soccer in the snow for the first time at 8:30 in the morning. By the second game in the afternoon, the snow had melted and everything was green again. The competition was some of the best in the area.

Monday, February 19
Thunder Girls win Presidential Showdown

The team was split into two teams, the red and the white, to play at the tournament held at the Carroll Indoor Soccer Dome. The white team lost to a team from Pennsylvania in overtime in the last 20 seconds of the semi-finals. The red team went on to play the Pennsylvania team in the Championship and won 3-1.

Skin Cancer Is Preventable!

MIKE would like to spread the word that skin cancer is preventable and encourage everyone to use sunscreen. Much of the skin damage that leads to skin cancers in adults occurs while they are children. It is very important that you protect yourself while out in the sun.

Sun Exposure Facts:
  • More than 1 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year in the US.
  • Skin cancer is increasing at a faster rate than any other cancer.
  • Every sunburn increases a child's chance of getting skin cancer as an adult.
  • On average, children spend 3 times more time in the sun than adults.
  • Eighty percent of a person's lifetime sun exposure is estimated to occur by age 18.
  • One blistering sunburn can double a child's lifetime risk of developing skin cancer!
