TRADITION 18U/16U Begin Summer Games
The 2004 version of TRADITION Softball got off to a fast start this summer. The TRADITION 18u team won the PONY National Qualifier in Danbury, CT, and the TRADITION 16u team captured the ASA State Championship held in Milford, CT.

Pitching was strong for both teams. TRADITION 18u got a one-hitter from Natalie Volpe in the championship game, a 2-1 win over FSA Tradition. Volpe and Amanda DeMatteo both threw no-hitters as the team won all six games in the tournament.

TRADITION 16u got a perfect game from April Ghiroli in the opener of the state tournament. Nicole Davenport pitched the championship game, a 4-1 victory over the Stratford Seahawks.

TRADITION COLLEGE PLAYERS
Former TRADITION Softball players are in the midst of their respective college seasons.

Elina Colon was named league player of the week for her work on the mound for the University of New Haven. Colon has posted a 0.63 ERA so far this Spring and a 7-3 record including two wins on the Southern trip to Florida. She has only allowed 28 hits and seven walks over 66.2 innings with 40 strikeouts.

Jessy Sachs is hitting .325 for Florida Atlantic University. Shifted to third base this Spring, Sachs has scored 26 runs from the leadoff spot with nine extra base hits, including five homeruns, good for 16 RBI's.

Nine other Tradition players are also competing in college seasons. Veteran Nicole deFau is a senior at the University of Notre Dame. The speedy outfielder was TRADITION's centerfielder in the National Championship years of 1998 and 1999.

TRADITION Players Begin High School Season
The high school season begins for the TRADITION 16u and 18u players as teammates split up for the Spring campaign. TRADITION friendships add to the fun of the high school season. Wishing all the players well as we keep tabs on our friends during the Spring. Looking forward to coming together again in June.

TRADITION Showcase Big Success
The Tradition Showcase held at Pragemann Park in Wallingford was a huge success as 21 college coaches came to view the play of 28 teams over the three day event.

The many parent volunteers helped to make it a huge success with chairpeople Lou Ghiroli, food, Donna Genovese, clothing and college coaches, and John Glynn, fields, coordinating the off field features.

The Tradition 18u and Tradition 16u teams each won four of its five games against top rated opponents to improve the two teams overall mark to 46-6.

The Tradition 18u came from a 5-0 deficit in the semis to rally to tie in the final inning and win in a tiebreaker 6-5 when Amanda Genovese drew a bases loaded walk. The team then battled the Polar Crush to a 1-1 tie through regulation and lost 3-2 in the tiebreaker to finish tournament runnerup.

Meghan Doonan pitched the doubleheader for Tradition with an outstanding two games of pitching.

The Tradition 16u finished third, losing in the semis to the Capital Mainiacs, 3-1, before drubbing the Flame 10-0 in the consolation game. The team won four-of-five to improve to 20-3 for the summer season.
