TRADITION Regular Tournament Season Opens April 22
The TRADITION 14u White team will kick off the 2006 season for the program, playing in the Branford Tournament. The youthful squad, made up of all 7th and 8th graders, will test their merit beginning on that April weekend. It will be the first of 10 tournaments for the team.

The 14u Red, 16u and 18u teams will begin in June to complete a 32 tournament summer including Nationals for the 16u and 18u teams.

Check this menu page for results of the tournaments and player highlights. Almost time for another fun season for the TRADITION family. Programs come and go as Dad coaches leave when their daughter graduates. TRADITION is in its 30th year and will be around as long as the Old Coach is still breathing.

TRADITION Plays in Rising Stars College Showcase
The TRADITION program sent 10 players to the Rising Stars College Showcase in Florida in January. Players from the 18u and 16u teams participated, playing five games over the weekend.

TRADITION finished the weekend with a 2-3 record. The squad defeated the New York Brewster Rockets 1-0, followed by a 3-1 defeat to the Palm Beach Florida team. TRADITION posted a 4-1 victory over the North Jersey Bandits. The final two games were not easy ones for the locals as the Canada Cougars topped TRADITION 9-1 and the Central Florida Ladyhawks beat them 8-0.

"It was a great experience for the girls", said Coach Ron Piazza. "It gave them the opportunity to have many college coaches watch them play and to give them an idea of where they need to be to compete for those college positions."

April Ghiroli and Nicole Davenport did all the pitching for TRADITION while Sarah Gates and Christina Dorchinsky had excellent weekends. Allie Ritacco also played super at thirdbase, making several fine plays without an error.

"It is something I would like the girls to be able to do again," Piazza said. "We will apply again in hopes of being accepted next year."

TRADITION Fall Softball 2005 - Begin 30th Anniversary Season
This fall TRADITION teams began the program's 30th anniversary season.

The highlight of the fall season will see the TRADITION 18u college recruits team head for Davie, Florida for the Rising Stars College Showcase. Over 300 college coaches will be in attendance as TRADITION will play five showcase games. TRADITION's high school players were picked to attend as the only Connecticut travel team in the invited field.

TRADITION also played in a few other fall tournaments to stay sharp for its fall ending trip to Florida. The other TRADITION teams are also in action this fall.

The 14u team plays doubleheaders each Saturday in Southington at Panthorn Park in a 16-team Middle School circuit. The 16u team plays on Sundays with doubleheaders in an 18-team field at Panthorn.

TRADITION 16u wins Bumble Bee
TRADITION 16u defeated the Black Widows 2-1 to capture the championship of the Bumble Bee Bash held in West Haven.

Magen Dargon pitched a masterpiece in the final, allowing only an unearned run to pace TRADITION to the title.

Eliminchamps
TRADITION 18u win Rachel Carey Best of the Best Tournament
TRADITION 12u wins STATE Title, 18u finishes runnerup
The TRADITION 12u team won the Connecticut ASA State Championship this past weekend behind the pitching of Emily O'Keefe and Lindsay Ghiroli.

The squad also banged out a bushel of hits in the tournament to improve its record to 25-2-2 for the season. TRADITION has won four tournament titles along with one runnerup trophy.

The TRADITION 18u team finished runnerup to the CT Green Devils, losing the "if" game after a monumental Sunday effort to get back in the championship run.

April Ghiroli pitched 26 innings on Sunday to keep the TRADITION title hopes alive.

All TRADITION teams will compete in the Bumble Bee Classic next weekend. The 12u plays up in the 14u tournament in Guilford along with the 14u, the 16u is in West Haven while the 18u team is in Branford.

TRADITION KEEPS UP WINNING STYLE
The June 17-19 weekend was a great start for the TRADITION 18u team and continuing success for TRADITION 12u.

The 18u team won six straight games at the Eliminators "Rachel Carey Best of the Best" tournament. April Ghiroli was honored with the Most Valuable Player plaque after pitching TRADITION to a 6-0 win in the finals over the Connecticut Hornets.

Ghiroli and Natalie Volpe combined to pitch all six games, allowing only 11 hits, while striking out 40 in 40 innings and walking four.

Sarah Gates led the Tradition offense, hitting .389 while Brooke Perrone had a homerun and triple. Stephanie Kowalec, April Ghiroli and Amanda St. George also had six hits apiece.

The TRADITION 12u team captured the Shoreline Stinger played in Branford. Tradition improved to 22-2-2 for the season with three tournament titles and one runnerup.

Emily O'Keefe had a big weekend on the mound with help from Jess Davenport. O'keefe pitched TRADITION to a 12-1 win in the championship game over the New York Rage.

TRADITION 12u OFF TO FINE START IN FIRST SEASON
The Tradition 12u softball has started the 2005 season in fine fashion.

Pitchers Emily O'Keefe and Jess Davenport have hurled the Tradition team to two tournament championships. After winning their only game played in the first tournament in Branford, the remainder of the event was washed out by rain.

In the second tournament, the X Games in Stratford, Tradition reeled off 15-0 wins versus the New York BP All-Stars and a 4-1 victory over the Rhode Island Thunder to take the top seed on Saturday. Sunday's games were rained out with TRADITION taking home the title by virtue of their top seed.

The Charmers Mother's Day Classic saw TRADITION take home another title with four straight wins on Sunday. O'Keefe and Davenport won two games each on Sunday, striking out 30 and walking only three in 29 innings of work.

Catcher Alex Ciccone caught all 29 innings and had a nice tournament at the plate, as well. Val Mazrek, Idalia Friedson, Lindsay Ghiroli, Cori Makar, Brette Therriault, Ali Sullivan, Frankie Brillante and Jostlyn Markovitz all chipped in to help take home the winner's trophies.

The Charmers ran a nice event at the North Branford Sportsplex.
