Wins Pony National Championship

Canfield OH-Sara Plourde pitched all 21 innings as TRADITION defeated the Delaware Diamonds, 9-1, n the championship game to win its third PONY National Championship.

Plourde also pitched the team to a 5-2 win in the quarterfinals and a 4-1 win in the semis earlier in the day. Kayla Jandreau and Jen Ward hit first inning homeruns to pace TRADITION in the 5-2 win over the Dames of Wisconsin.  Priscilla Alicea had a two-run fifth inning double and Plourde a two-run triple in the fifth inning of the semis as TRADITION came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Richmond, Virginia, Storm.

TRADITION went 10-1 for the tournament to finish 43-3 for the season. It was the third National championship for TRADITION which won in 1998 and 1999.  It was a brilliant effort in Ohio for the CT team, hitting .379 as a group. Plourde batted .500, Meg Carta, .451, Audrey Boutin, .424, Alicea, .405. Jandreau, Ward, Plourde and Alicea homered in the tournament. Anna Levesque had a two-run double in the championship game while Laura Carta had the key hit against the Storm to spark the comeback win. Sarah Lempicki picked up three wins on the mound spelling Plourde while Sarah Bolasevich chipped in with a brilliant two-RBI squeeze bunt single. The infield of Ward, 3b, Boutin, ss, Meg Guy, 2b and Jess Howard, 1b turned in many defenisve gems, capped by a 6-4-3 double play in the finals.

TRADITION softball, 35 years, is the longest running fastpitch girls' travel team in Connecticut. The family TRADITION has seen many players go on to college careers and earn financial assistance through the game of softball. But TRADITION has long been more than victories and scholarships. The TRADITION teams will swing into the 2011 season in June with the 14u, 16u and 18u teams playing summer softball.  We are proud that our teams were selected from players who wanted to participate and give us a chance without us making phone calls to other teams' players or promising playing time or guaranteed positions. We commend these girls for their willingness to take a chance and work for their position. It is refreshing. What is happening to our sport? Everyone wants a guarantee. Success is achieved through hard work. We once again hosted our tournament. The TRADITION College Showcase was held on July 9-12, 2011. The Individual Player College Showcase was held July 9. There were 200 girls showcasing in front of 72 college coaches. The 2012 event will be held 1n July. Beginning in the fall of 2011, Coach Ron Piazza returns for his 36th year with TRADITION,  as the Manager of the 18u North team along with his buddy and outstanding Coach Angelo Formisano while Rick and Bob Arremony manage the 18u East and Ray Ramelli and Jim Ryan run the 16u South. Eileen Holden will run the 16u North program.  Tom Pia will manage the 18u South and there will be Coach Al Ramelli's !4u team of outstanding new talent.  We are still looking for qualified coaches to join us. Piazza coached Tradition teams have won 1,242 summer tournament games while losing only 203. Coach Piazza's high school teams have posted a 606-78 mark with eight state titles in 13 trips to the championship game, with Lyman Hall High School, Southington High School, and  Trumbull High School.  Piazza has won more than 1,800 games for his career, posting a 1878-281 record. TRADITION has won the PONY National Championship three times, in 2008, 1998 and 1999. TRADITION finished 5th in 2006 as well as 2007.  TRADITION has a 90-12-4 mark at the National PONY championships. TRADITION also won the ASA Eastern National Championship in 2005 going unbeaten to the crown. We look forward to another fun and exciting summer of softball and family camaraderie. Our mottos continue to be to "Be the Best Player You Can Be" and to "Think of Your Teammates Before Yourself". The TRADITION program makes only one promise; "honesty, loyalty, and a member of our family for life." We keep our promise
