D.J. BARBER NAMED MVP OF THE YEAR FOR THE TIMBERJAXX

D.J. Barber has been selected as the 2011 Fourth Ward Adirondack Timberjaxx Most Valuable Player.  Other players in the running were Justin Mahan, Josh Chapman, Aaron Goldfarb and Jim Knight Jr.

The most standout credit to Barber was the fact he made all 18 ball games.  He hit .433, with 26 hits including six doubles and stole a team high 19 bases.  He drove in 12 runs, mostly batting from the one and two hole.  His fielding at shortstop was excellent and he also pitched well.  He was a very versatile player.

Justin Mahan was the power hitter on the team with four home runs, one triple, four doubles and a total of 20 hits.  He was the leading RBI man with 28 while batting .339.  He was a great catcher and played the infield as great as he caught.

Josh Chapman traveled all the way from Malone to play first base for the Timberjaxx.  He had a batting average of .410, ten RBI's and 25 hits, including one home run and two doubles.  He was tied with Mahan with 17 runs scored.  He was an excellent fielding first baseman.

Aaron Goldfarb was the equal to Barber in games played, and actually played one more game that did D.J.  Goldfarb was a prolific lead-off man batting .345 with 20 hits and 18 walks.  Aaron scored the second most runs to Barber with 20.  He too proved to be a very versatile player playing the infield and outfield.

Jim Knight Jr. was only available for about half the season.  He had a batting average of .500 with 15 hits and 15 RBI's.  His hits included three doubles and one home run. His slugging percentage of .700 and on base percentage of .579 made most pitchers fear him.

TIMBERJAXX FORFEIT OPENING GAME TO AVOID RIOT WITH MINERS.

It was a sad day at the ball game for everyone when players from both sides got into a verbal battle that led to Aaron Goldfarb taking his team off the field to stop an impending riot.  The Jaxx at one time held a 4-1 lead before their pitching let them down.  The Miners who were quiet at the time started their gang tactics when they jumped out to a lead by scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth.  In the top of the eighth, Dave Waldron got a lucky bounce base hit to D.J. Barber at short.  This wasn't good enough for Waldron who then began to taunt Barber.  Barber, who has a short fuse at times fired back and insensitive word were said to each other.  The field umpire then ejected both players and to end any potential follow up riot, which the Miners are well known for, Goldfarb called the team off the field.  Since it did not go the regulation nine innings it became a forfeit, thus a 9-0 loss for the Timberjaxx who were down 14-5 at the time.

The manager, Jim Knight Sr., being the home team called the score into the Plattsburgh Press-Republican as a 9-0 forfeit win for the Miners.  He talked directly to John Coyer but when the article came out in the paper in Monday with all the stats!  Either Coyer called Bill Chase or Bill Chase got his way as the 'away' book.

The following rule clearly states that a game that is forfeited before going the regulation distance is a forfeit, thus 9-0.

CALLED AND FORFEITED GAMES (e) (1) If a regulation game is called, include the record of all individual and team actions up to the moment the game ends, as defined in Rules 4.10 and 4.11. If it is a tie game, do not enter a winning or losing pitcher. (2) If a regulation game is forfeited, include the record of all individual and team actions up to the time of forfeit. If the winning team by forfeit is ahead at the time of forfeit, enter as winning and losing pitchers the players who would have qualified if the game had been called at the time of forfeit. If the winning team by forfeit is behind or if the score is tied at the time of forfeit, do not enter a winning or losing pitcher. If a game is forfeited before it becomes a regulation game, include no records. Report only the fact of the forfeit.

It should also be noted, contrary to what the Press printed, the Timberjaxx could have continued the game with only eight players, as the rules allow.

TIMBERJAXX TO HOST SECOND PLACE LYON MOUNTAIN THIS SUNDAY

The Fourth Ward Timberjaxx will host the Miners from Lyon Mountain this coming Sunday in a best of three series.  The Jaxx have some pay back in store after being squeezed out of a win at Lyon Mountain.  The game will be a single seven inning game and then the following week will move to Lyon Mountai for two more games, depending on who has the first win at South Acres.  If the Timberjaxx win Sunday, they would only have to win one of the two games at Lyon Mountain to move on.

Scheduled to pitch will be Andrew Price (4-2) and his battery mate most likely will again be Justin Mahan.  Backing price up will be D.J. Barber (2-2), Matt Lamora (1-1) and Eric Rock (0-1) all quality pitchers.

All players are asked to be at South Acres by 10 am for batting practice.  Pitching and defense will win this game.

TIMBERJAXX KNOCK-OFF 4TH WARD A'S BEHIND ANDREW PRICE 9-5

The Fourth Ward Adirondack Timberjaxx advanced to the semi-final round of the Champlain Valley Baseball League playoffs by thumping the Fourth Ward A's at South Acres Sunday 9-5.  Price also helped power the Jaxx with his first home run in the second inning.  Justin Mahan was a work horse behind the plate while banging out three hits including a double in a two run third.

D.J. Barber continued his hot hitting with a double and a single while raising his batting average to .448.  He also continued to lead the team in stolen bases by adding two more to a total of 19 for the year.  As a pinch runner for Mahan in the eighth inning, Barber was called out on a disputed call trying to steal home.

Matt Lamora had a big day for the Timberjaxx with two hits, including a long home run and two RBI's.  Eric Rock, Josh Chapman and Terry Brunelle added to the hit parade.

The defense stymied multiple combact tries by the A's, by turning double plays in the second and third innings.   With one out in the second and the bases loaded, Aaron Goldfarb fielded a ground ball, three on to Barber who relayed it to first baseman Chapman to end the inning.  Again with the bases loaded and one out in the third, Andrew Price grabbed a line drive and flipped to Chapman at first base to end the A's attempted rally.

D.J. Barber came into relieve Price in the top of the ninth with one out and the bases again loaded.  Barber got pinch hitter Meyers to fly out to Eric Rock in centerfield and got Steve Livsey to ground out to Goldfarb to end the game.

JAXX DROP DOUBLE HEADER TO PADRES IN SARANAC 9-5 AND 7-2

The FourthWard Timberjaxx fielded just enough players Saturday in a double header loss to the last place Padres.  In game one, Matt Lamora pitched a tough game but came up short as the Padres showed their power as Donny Coolidge and Eric Bell blasted home runs on balls out of the strike zone.  In the fifth inning, back to back errors by te Jaxx knocked Lamora out of the game.  Matt Drollette came in but walked the first two batters he faced.  With the bases loaded and no one out, the call was made to bring Jim Knight Jr. into pitch.  The first batter lined out to D.J. Barber at short stop.  The next batter lifted a flyball to centerfield, caught by Nick Labonty allowing one run to score.  Knight then struck Matt Rivers to stop any further damage.

In game two D.J. Barber pitched a good game giving up six hits, striking out two and walking one.  The Padres virtually put the game away in the third when they scored four runs on only two hits and one error.  The Jaxx firepower on offense wasn't with them this week.  Aaro Goldfarb accounted for two of the four hits with a single and a double and one RBI.  Matt Lamora singled in the third and was driven home by David Shutts with an RBI double.

JAXX SWEEP A'S AT BAILEY AVE 2-1 AND 19-4

D.J. Barber took the spot light as he scored both runs in the 2-1 victory.  In the fifth inning he led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.  In the top of the seventh with two outs, Barber doubled and then stole third base.  He scored the eventual winning run on a wild pitch.  Andrew Price who had been cruising after giving up a single run in the first ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh.  He walked the first two batters and was relieved by manager Jim Knight Jr.  On a bunt attempt to the first batter, Knight fielded the ball and nailed the runner at third.  The next batter hit a ball to Justin Mahan at third who fired to Aaron Goldfarb at second and relayed it on to Josh Chapman at first for a game ending double play.  It was Jim Knight's second save of the year and Andrew Price's third win of the season.

In the second game D.J. Barber went the distance in a lopsided 19-4 win.  The four run scored by the A's were all unearned in the fourth.  The Jaxx blew the game open early while going thru four A's pitchers.  Justin Mahan hit his fourth home run and a double while driving in four runs.  Barber added to the carnage with three hits including a double and also four rbi's.  Jim Knight Jr. and Terry Brunelle also drove in three runs.  Josh Chapman, Brunelle and Eric Rock also added three hits each.  Aaron Goldfarb, Dave Shutts and Tim Lafave added to the 19 hit attack.

SOFTBALL IS KILLING BASEBALL

It has been a hardship for good ball players to play softball and baseball at the same time.  It seems that the players have chosen to be stars in softball while letting their baseball teams down.  If this keeps up, there will soon be no CVBL left.  Anyone can play softball, but it takes a better player to play the game of baseball.  How about it players, why let your baseball teams down?

The Adirondack Timberjaxx, sponsored by the 4th Ward of Plattsburg, came from behind in both games and over powered the third place Meron Expo's 16-6 and 17-8 in South Acres.  Justin Mahan powered the Jaxx by belting a grandslam in both games and driving in ten runs on the day.  Jim Knight Jr. belted out five hits, including a double and drove in five runs.  Shortstop D.J. Barber added three hits, one a double while driving in four runs.  Tim Lafave also helped the Jaxx with two hits, one a double while also driving in four runs.  Aaron Goldfarb, David Schutts and Josh Chapman joined the hitting parade all with three hits on the day.  In game one Nick Lefler picked up the win and in game two, Matt Lamora got the win.
