Tidewater Drillers win ESPN/Gameday Tournament at Virginia Sports Complex

TD v. Central VA Hurricanes (6-5)
After a team record of 9 errors in the field, the Drillers hung tough to battle back and pull out a win against the "canes".  Hard to keep the score close let alone pull out a victory with that many mistakes; but from the 4th inning on, the tone was set for the weekend.

TD v. Rivanna Riverdogs (18-0)
No let up here as the team came out mentally prepared.  The bats came alive for the Drillers!  Going 2-0 on Saturday gave us a #2 seed heading into Sunday.  Austin "AO" Owens had the big hit with a 3 run double to put the game out of reach early.

TD v. River City Sluggers (18-2)
Drillers came out and put 3 runs on the board only to have River City put a 2 spot in the bottom of the first.  Those would be the only runs the Drillers would allow against a very good Sluggers team.  Great pitching performance by Matt Matthews, good defense and good hitting put this game away in the 4th.  On to the title game!

Championship Game
TD v. Old Dominion Owls (6-2)
A dominant performance by the Drillers in the title game!  Scoring 3 runs early and tacking on 1 run in each of the next 3 innings.  The Drillers manufactured runs and played a stellar defense which was aided by a dominating pitching performance by Tim "TK" Kelly!  Great job Drillers!  Hard work pays off!  A total team effort this weekend!
