TCVA 131 Takes Bronze at Viper 1

The 131 team played their first tournament in a very competitive 10 team tournament boasting 3 teams that played in the J.O. nationals last year.  The team started the day slowly with a tie based on splitting the first two sets in their first match against SA Elite Red.  During the next two matches they turned up their level of play and got wins over Saints 13 Gold and SA Sting Purple.  These victories set up a match against the #1 seeded and eventual tournament winner Maverick 131.  Unfortunately the team lost the match which set up the bronze medal match against SA Magic 131.  The Magic team came out and took the 1st set.  “We talked about the first set loss prior to the second set and made some adjustments, the athletes came out and played a tremendous second set” said Coach Rich.  TCVA 131 won the second set to force a deciding 3rd set.  The team found themselves down 12-13 but 3 strong serves and a block ended up providing the deciding margin with TCVA 131s winning the set 15-13 and  taking home the bronze medal.  Coach Rich summed up the day, “I am very proud of the team!  We were able to get a split against two very strong national level teams.  I was very pleased with how individual athletes stepped up at crucial times to contribute to the team’s success.  The kids had great attitudes and great effort….way to go ladies!”

TCVA 141s Win Bronze at Viper 1

The first tournament of the season...a fresh team and a fresh start.

Playing their first tournament, the TCVA 141s started the season on the right foot. "There is nothing more promising than finishing in 3rd place for their first tournament, Coach Sondra said, I was very anxious for this tournament and for the girls to finally play, they show a lot of promising things for this season." It came down to a deciding 3rd set, in the bronze medal match, with Jags tied at 1-1 against the opposing team SA Sting Black. The final set was won 15-13 by the Lady Jags following a hard fought battle. Everyone contributed to the victory and is happy with the results.
