Kyle Schilling went 5-for-5 with a double, triple and 5 RBI to pace the offensive attack for the Blue, which used an eight-run second inning to support starter Devin McAfee (4 IP, 1 ER) and relievers Aaron Tierney (3 IP, 0 ER) and Schilling (2 IP, 0 ER). McAfee also went 3-for-5 (double, RBI). The Gold was paced by Austin Creamer (2-for-4, double) and Aedin Wadja (2-for-4). Ben Strenkowski and Russ Puleo drove in runs for the Gold, which got 3 innings of scoreless relief from Casey Szuba. Earlier in the week, the Gold won the Skills Competition (174-155), with the Blue coming back to win the Coach-Pitch game. Saturday, July 24 Summer 2010: Tri-County Players Honored Several Tri-County players were recognized by Zone 7 coaches and officials following the 2010 summer season. Shortstop Tyler Pogmore and outfielder Eric Brainard were named starters for the Zone 7 All-Star game, which was played July 22 at Riverfront Park in Glastonbury. Both Pogmore and Brainard were substitutes on the team last summer. In addition, outfielders Brett Dootson and Steve Starr, catcher Cy Lampugnale and pitcher Tyler Repoli were named reserves for the game. Repoli was a reserve last summer, as well. Also, utility player Alex King was named one of the Zone 7 Sportsmanship Award winners. Finally, pitcher/infielder Kyle Schilling was selected to participate in the American Legion Futures Game, a showcase-type event for players with remaining high school eligibility. The Futures Game, which is sponsored by Rawlings, took place on July 31 in Simsbury. Monday, October 26 T-C Players Walk On To College Teams Four players from the 2009 Tri-County summer Legion team made their college teams as walk-ons this fall. Right-handed pitcher Joe Bender (Lebanon/Western New England), right-handed pitcher Evan Chamberlain (Hebron/Eastern Connecticut State), catcher Beriah Smith (Lebanon/Catholic U.) and second baseman Alex Soucy (Marlborough/Quinnipiac) all survived tryouts at their schools and are in line to be rostered players during the spring 2010 season.
This spring, they'll join five other former Tri-County players competing at the college level: sophomore right-handed pitcher Mark DiTommaso (Hebron/Western New England), junior left-handed pitcher Matt Fitton (Lebanon/Sacred Heart), senior outfielder/DH Matt Grosso (Marlborough/Notre Dame), senior right-handed pitcher Jeff Raymond (Marlborough/Keene State) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Sean Scanlon (Lebanon/Roger Williams). Thursday, July 30 T-C Players Honored After Successful Summer Season Tri-County's Mark DiTommaso was named the American Legion Zone 7 Pitcher of the Year in voting of coaches. A Pitcher of the Year finalist last summer, DiTommaso was the near-unanimous choice of zone coaches after putting up a 7-2 record with one save and a 0.90 ERA in 10 zone appearances. DiTommaso was also the runner-up for Zone 7 Player of the Year, which went to RCP catcher Dan Hickey. DiTommaso was also selected by Zone 7 coaches to start at third base for the Zone 7/East All-Star team, making him one of three T-C starters, along with Evan Chamberlain (outfield) and Alex Soucy (second base). In addition, Zone 7 coaches voted four T-C players as All-Star reserves: Eric Brainard (outfield), Tyler Pogmore (shortstop), Tyler Repoli (pitcher) and Beriah Smith (catcher). Also, pitcher/infielder Gregg Kirkpatrick was named a Zone 7 Sportsmanship Award recipient and was recognized along with other sportsmanship winners prior to the Zone 7/East-West All-Star Game. The West team defeated the East 4-1 in the nine-inning game on July 30 at Riverfront Park in Glastonbury. DiTommaso and Pogmore both had hits for the East team and DiTommaso pitched two scoreless innings. Saturday, June 20 T-C Alumni Report: Pollock Goes In First Round To D-backs
Notre Dame junior A.J. Pollock (Hebron/Marlborough) was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 17th overall pick in the major league draft on June 9. Pollock, who played three summers with the Tri-County American Legion team under his father, Al Pollock, and Al Garray, was the first Connecticut native selected in the first round since Norwalk's Pete Tucci (31st pick, 1996, Toronto). A centerfielder, Pollock was named to the all-Big East first team for the second consecutive season in 2009, finishing with a team-high average of .365, the third consecutive season he has been the Irish's leading hitter. He led the team in numerous other offensive categories, as well, including OBP (.443), runs (69), hits (88), doubles (19), triples (5) and stolen bases (21 in 25 attempts). Saturday, November 1 Fall 2008 Wrapup: Going Inside the Numbers
Though our record was not as impressive as it has been in previous fall seasons, the GNHBL offered varsity-level competition week-in and week-out that provided a challenging test for our T-C team, which returned just one full-time player from a year ago. As evidenced by our victory over Cheshire, along with wins over three other teams that won more games (Colchester, Capitals and Glastonbury), we showed that we could play with anyone when we were at our best. Based on the GNHBL point system that rewards teams for playing its games, T-C actually finished tied with Colchester for the third-most playoff points in its 10-team division, but still finished well behind Groton and Cheshire, which qualified for the playoffs and were definitely two of the stronger teams we went up against. As a side note, it's also worth noting that we had another quality win early in the season over the West Hartford team that went on to win the SuperEast U18 tournament -- the league that T-C played in the last three falls. Of special note, however, is the season Jared Szuba put together on the mound. The Lyman Memorial junior gave up a run in the first inning he pitched -- against West Hartford on Sept. 3 -- and did not allow another earned run the rest of the fall, which covered 35 1/3 innings and resulted in a 0.19 ERA.

Monday, September 1 Summer '08 Awards: Four All-Stars; Repoli Youngest 'Futures' Player Five Tri-County players were selected for post-season honors and awards in the annual voting by Zone 7 coaches. Leading the way was Matt Fitton, who started in the outfield for the Zone 7 All-Stars for the second consecutive year when they faced the Zone 3 All-Stars on July 30 Palmer Field in Middletown. Three other players -- Mark DiTommaso, Tim Roesch and Sean Scanlon -- also were named to the Zone 7 team, which fell, 7-1. In addition, Jordan Tyler was selected to receive one of the Zone 7 Sportsmanship Awards and DiTommaso was a finalist in voting for the zone's Most Outstanding Pitcher Award, which went to Tom Coughlin of RCP.
The T-C honorees: In addition, left-handed pitcher Tyler Repoli was the only rising junior selected to The Futures Game, a showcase for players who have remaining high school eligibility which took place on Aug. 9 at Memorial Field in Simsbury. The format for the event was changed slightly from last year, with players from Zone 7 teamed with players from other Central Connecticut teams (Berlin, Bristol, Unionville, Middletown, etc.) to form an 18-player "American Central" team. Repoli pitched two innings, played some at first base and had a hit in his only at-bat. Tri-County finished third in Zone 7 with a 17-7 record, its .708 winning percentage the 13th best among 77 Senior Legion teams. T-C, which went 20-17 overall, advanced to the final 32 of the state tournament before being eliminated by Oxford, 4-0. Saturday, October 25 October, 2007: T-C Ends Fall Season At 16-7 Tri-County's fall season ended with an 11-6 loss to Windsor Locks in the semifinals of the season-ending tournament. Despite the loss, T-C finished a successful campaign with a 16-7 overall record, including regular-season victories over both the tournament champion (New Britain) and runner-up (Windsor Locks). Final team statistical leaders are listed below and complete fall stats are available in the "Stats" section dropdown labeled "2007 Fall Senior (U-19)". When you're scanning the below list, check out how many different names show up. Sure, some guys are on there more than others, but there are many factors that can contribute to that, including playing time, positions, game situations, spots in the lineup, etc. The amazing thing is that virtually every member of our team -- all of our regulars and even a few U-17 call-ups and part-time guys who logged enough time -- show up in the top-5 in at least one statistical category. As much as anything, that should illustrate that those 16 wins really were a team effort. Thanks to all for a great fall. Pitching Leaders (min. 6 IP for calculated stats)
Defensive Leaders (min. 10 chances) Monday, August 13 August 2007: T-C Goes 3-1 In Silk City Classic After dropping its first game in the Silk City Classic, 8-2 to the North Jersey Cardinals, Tri-County won three straight games over the next two days to finish 3-1 on the field in the August tournament in Manchester. Tyler Repoli (5 innings) and Sean Salinger (two innings) combined to defeat the Connecticut Dawgs 5-3 on Saturday night, before Stephen Streets went the distance as Tri-County scored a come-from-behind eight-inning victory over the Rhode Island Cardinals, 6-5. Tri-County then travelled across town and defeated an undermanned Connecticut Mustangs, 12-2. Based on tiebreakers and other factors, T-C ended up in third place. Stats from the tournament can be found in the "Stats" section dropdown labeled "2007 Silk City Classic". Friday, August 10 August 2007: T-C All-Stars Shine Tri-County's three players who were selected to the Zone 7 All-Star team all made important contributions during the 4-2 loss to the Zone 3 All-Stars at Glastonbury. Liam Shea, who started in right-field, drove in Zone 7's first run with a single to right and Sean Salinger, who pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, drove home the second run with a ninth-inning single. And Matt Fitton, who was a unanimous selection to start in center, made two running catches to save runs and ... was hit by a pitch. Congrats to all three players and to Stephen Reiser, who was on-hand to pick up his Sportsmanship Award. Thursday, August 9 August 2007: Roesch Selected To Play In Futures Game Outfielder Tim Roesch was selected to participate in the Rawlings Futures Showcase on Aug. 12 in Simsbury. Tim was T-C's only representative in the game against a team from Zone 8. The game was for players who still have high school eligibility. Wednesday, August 1 August, 2007: T-C Players Honored Five Tri-County Senior players were honored following the '07 summer season:
