Here's a big thank you too all that attended the Mariners game as part of a fund raiser. It was a huge success. The girls got to meet some of the players from the new national champion HUSKIES softball team. They had pictures taken and got autographs! The Mariners lost in 10 innings but I don't think anyone noticed. It was great fun! We will be doing the same thing next season...look for tickets at Opening Day! The picture above is from the game!

RECREATIONAL SOFTBALL FOR GIRLS

If you are interested in the TCFA Budget, please see the article below.
League Information
The mission statement of Thurston County Fastpitch Association is:
To operate a quality non-profit fastpitch association
To promote fastpitch softball in the community by developing skills; promoting fun and team spirit; and promoting and teaching good sportsmanship to all players, coaches, parents and fans.
Thurston County Fastpitch Association (TCFA) is a non-profit volunteer organization that has promoted girls’ recreational fastpitch softball in Thurston County since 1975. Our teams are registered and insured with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) which sets our rules and offers opportunities of tournament play.
The division of play, established by ASA, ensures that girls play only with others within their age group. Age is determined by the age of the girl on January 1 of the current year. Six, seven and eight year olds are offered a choice of coach pitch or hitting from a tee.
TCFA is a non-profit organization. Each team is expected to participate in a league fund raiser. League fund raisers are an essential part of our ability to offer a quality program to the girls in our community. These funds are used to cover expenses that the registration fees do not cover. A budget detailing those expenses is available upon request.
Other expected expenses: 10U, 12U and 14U teams are expected to cover the expense of uniforms. Most teams are able to raise the funds necessary through sponsorships and team fund raisers. 8U teams receive a shirt and hat from the league.
Field Locations: Yelm based teams will practice in Yelm and play a majority, if not all, of their games in Yelm. Lacey based teams will practice at Lacey area fields and play a majority of their games at Lacey area fields. West Olympia teams will share the field allocation on the Westside for practices and home games. All teams may do some traveling to the Tumwater, Olympia, Yelm, Rainier and Lacey areas.
Regular game days: 8U, Monday and Wednesday; 10U, Tuesday and Thursday; 12U, Monday and Wednesday; and 14U, Tuesday and Thursday. Games may be played at alternate times depending on rescheduling of rainouts.
A limited number of scholarships are available through TCFA’s Lt. Steven Henderson Memorial Fund for those with a financial need. If you need more information please call and leave a message at 486-0947 and we will contact you. A little about the person this memorial fund was named after...
Lacey Fire Lt. Steve Henderson was recognized as the National Firefighter of the Year in 1986 for pioneering the idea of giving teddy bears to traumatized children. He was 50 when he died in 1999.
Mr. Henderson was a Lacey firefighter for 20 years. His program to give children teddy bears - called "Hendy bears" in Lacey - was adopted worldwide by fire departments and other emergency services, his co-workers said.
Then-Gov. Booth Gardner declared April 10, 1987, as Steve Henderson Day in Washington. And Lacey Mayor Kay Boyd declared June 25 of that year Steve Henderson Day. The local news media honored him as one of 80 people who made a difference in the community in the 1980s.
Mr. Henderson also began a practice of sending sympathy cards to families his crew had helped.
"He seemed to always be concerned about the people we were serving, and asked, `How can we take care of them?' " said Fire District Chief Jim Broman.
In this spirit, TCFA offers registration scholarships in Mr. Henderson's name for those that are experiencing difficult economic times. If you are able to donate to this fund, please contact TCFA at 486-0947. Thank you.
