PROFILE:
Socrates Nicolaidis has been involved in the game of soccer for 32 years as a player and coach. Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia he became the youngest player at age 15 to play professionally for the South Melbourne SC Hellas team. Socrates represented the State of Victoria at the U12, U14, U16, and U18 Level in the Australian National Youth Championships. Socrates was selected to play on the National Youth Squad prior to the 1981 World Youth Championship. While in Australia he coached the South Melbourne SC U19 Youth Team as their Head Coach along with South Melbourne SC First Team as their Assistant Coach. He later served as Head Coach for the State Regional U14B Melbourne, Victoria team and also the Head Coach of the State Regional U14B Gold Coast, Queensland team.
In 1998 his passion for the game brought him across the Pacific Ocean from Australia to the United States. Socrates now owns and operates his company, the Youth Soccer Alliance, based out of Marlton, New Jersey. Socrates will be opening an indoor soccer training facility in Voorhees, New Jersey in October 2006 to further support the game of soccer in this area in terms of player development. Socrates is quickly building a reputation as a knowledgeable teacher of the game. He has worked with the NJ Youth Soccer ODP program as an evaluator and served as the 1999 U13B ODP State Team Head Coach. In 2003 and 2004, Socrates served as head coach for the Medford Strikers Scream where he guided this successful youth soccer team to the 2003 NJ State Cup U17 Finals against PDA and 2004 NJ State Cup U18 Semi-Finals. In 2006 Socrates served as Assistant Womens Soccer Coach for Salem Community College and Head Coach for the New Jersey Victory Womens Team that played in the final of the USASA U23 Regional Final in Philadelphia during the summer of 2006. Most recently in the Spring of 2007 Socrates was named head women's coach of the highly respected New Jersey Wildcats women's team of the W League.
Working closely with his partners and colleagues, Socrates is always looking at ways to improve each of his players skill be introducing a variety of training development programs. His programs teach the four major components of the game, which are Skill (technique), Tactics, and both Physical and Mental Fitness. The teaching of these four components, while creating a proper environment to learn that is both motivating and fun, is YSAs main objective for all their soccer students.
Socrates looks forward to talking to you about the Comets players. Please feel free to call or e-mail him at your convenience to discuss any player or just talk about soccer.
