Comets End State Cup Championship Series Run as NJ U15G Semifinalists
The Comets ended their run in the USYSA National Championship Series NJ State Cup today with a disappointing loss to nationally ranked Mt. Laurel United Strikers, last year's National Championship Series Region 1 Champions and this year's Region 1 Premier League Champions. The Comets defense did a nice job cutting down on scoring opportunities for the Strikers' offense, and the Comets midfield and offense worked hard to set up a number of scoring opportunities, but in the end, it was the Strikers who scored on a direct outside the box to score at the post and on a excellent cross to a head ball finish.
The Comets advanced to this year's semifinal match after winning their quarterfinal match against the Parsippany Storm 2-0 on Saturday, May 14th at Ft. Dix.

Comets Jefferson Cup Elite Flight Semifinalists
The Comets won their bracket and advanced to the Jefferson Cup Elite Flight Semifinals after tying the Cleveland Soccer Academy Impact (Ohio North State Cup Semifinalists) 1-1 and defeating the IFC Blast (former Beadling Blast; Pennsylvania West State Cup Finalists) 3-1 in preliminary play. The Comets played a controlled passing game and exhibited good strength and speed against these two solid teams. The semi-final match was played against a very physical FC Delco Fury (Pennsylvania East State Cup Finalists) who won the match and advanced to win the Elite Flight Championship.
The Jefferson Cup is a highly intensive two-day event hosted each year by the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club for elite clubs and teams throughout the country. While disappointed for not advancing to the finals, the Comets were pleased with their performance and 3rd place finish in this strong flight of 12 elite teams.

Highlights from the Bethesda Thanksgiving Tournament
The Comets went 1-1-1 in the Premier Flight at the Bethesda Thanksgiving Tournament. Their first match was against the Bethesda Rapids, this year’s Maryland State Cup and WAGS A Flight Semi-Finalists. The match was well played by both teams and with different officials would have ended with a one-goal differential, but in the end, the Rapids wanted the win more and played a stronger game for the win. The Comets went on to play the FC Hammers, this year’s Ohio South State Cup Champions. The Comets took the lead early in the first half and held onto that lead until the last 10 ten minutes of the match when the Hammers equalized the score to end the match in a tie. After warming up from the cold temperatures and having Coach Joe strictly enforce the curfew, the Comets awoke to play for a victory against the Charles River United Blue Thunder, this year’s Massachusetts State Cup Finalist.
Many thanks to Dana for donning white this weekend. It was great having you play with the Comets once again.
