Glen Shields 96 Red are 2010 U14 OYSL League Runners Up!

The 2010 outdoor season has come to a close with the Glen Shields 96 Girls being 13-1-2 in the OYSL Eastern Division and Divison champs!  The team can boast having the highest number of points over 16 games and the distinction of being the #6 team - spanning all age groups - in the Province.  The girls proved that they are the most 'consistent' team in the 96 age group!  The OYSL league championship rested on one playoff game with the Burlington Tornadoes.  In this game, GS outshot their competitor 17-5. GS dominated the entire first half with most of the possession and many quality shots. In the 2nd half, Burlington came out stronger and the game was a little more even.  A powerful breakaway in the last 10 by the GS centre striker, brought her into the box, after deaking out the last defender, but the shot hit the post. A GS fullback intercepted the ball (with 5 minutes to go), without toppling the player who was on a breakaway at breakneck speed...impressive!  The GS goalie's save - to the bottom right corner - in the last 5 minutes, was another game-saver.  The game went on to PK's and with the luck swinging to Burlington's side.  So the Glen Shields 96 Girls are U14 OYSL League Runner's Up and have something to be proud of...they were in very good company.  Great season Glen Shields 96 Red!!

Glen Shields 96 in OC semi-final action!
Glen Shields 96 Girls battled it out in the heat against Brams United Angels in the Ontario Cup semi-finals.  It was a game that would have made been worthy of the finals.  The girls started out strong with the first shot on net. It wasn't long before Brams' skilled midfielder launched one from outside of 18, that skimmed the inside of our net giving them a 1-0 lead at half. Then 10 minutes into the 2nd half, our determined right winger drove into the box and scored to tie up the game. The game was even with both teams taking turns controlling and passing the ball for stretches. Nearly half way into the 2nd half, the same Brams player managed to launch another ball giving them a 2-1 lead. With 10 minutes left in the game, the GS centre striker headed the ball into the net on a free kick from the left side.  Perfect...now it's a 2-2 tie.  Then both teams worked hard to break the tie.  Brams increased their shooting frequency giving the GS goalie a real workout - an excellent job done!!  The GS wingers fought their way into the box, but their attempts were squashed by a very determined Brams defense.  The game would end on a 2-2 tie.  The game was determined on PK's in which Brams came out on top.  An excellent battle for the GS girls and proof that they are not a team to be taken lightly!!
