Suffield Little League News
Hello Suffield Little League!
We hope your child(ren)'s experience of learning and playing the game of baseball/softball is a fun and rewarding one. If you have any suggestions on how to enhance their experience, please let us know.
Free high quality Opening Day Photos
Bishop Photo took over 130 candid photos during Opening Day and has provided them to us for free! Thanks Bishop Photo! A download link was sent to all parents who are registered. Please note these are free photos they took for us to have and they do NOT include every child, team, coach, etc.
Memorial Day Parade
Suffield Little League baseball and softball teams will march in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27th. The parade starts at 9 a.m. Players and coaches should meet at Ffyler place at 8:45 AM (the street across from Dunkin Donuts on Mountain Road). Players should wear their full uniform with sneakers. The parade starts at Ffyler place and ends at the Veterans Memorial on the town green next to the Library. Parents should meet their kids on the green. Please join Suffield Little League in honoring our Veterans.
Family Night at New Britain RockCats
Saturday, June 1st is Suffield Little League's family night at the New Britain RockCats. Game time is 6:35pm. Tickets are only $6.00 each, and we have about 20 extra if you did not purchase tickets during registration. If you are interested in buying them, contact Donna Dyer at Donna@onekid.net ASAP. All SLL players, family, and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. The team that orders the most tickets will get to take the field and stand with the Rock Cats players during the national anthem. NOTE: your registration confirmation indicates whether you ordered tickets. Weather permitting, tickets will be available for pickup on Wed., May 29 from 6:00 - 7:30pm at the Majors Field (find Donna on first base side of field).
Home Run Derby & Skills Competition
The Home Run Derby & Skills Competition will be held Friday evening June 7th, and it is not too late to participate! For the first time, we are accepting JUNIORS!. Players that didn't sign up at registration can still sign up at the event for $6/player, however, they will not receive an event t-shirt. We have over 130 contestants already registered. It should be a fun evening! Players should arrive at the field by 5:15 to check in. The Derby/Competition will start PROMPTLY at 5:30 in order to finish before dark. Like last year, the skills competition is where players compete in running and throwing. Of course, the Derby is where we see who can hit the most Home Runs! It's a lot of fun and the children have a blast! Volunteers are needed to help with registration, judging, shagging balls, setup/cleanup, pitching, tracking stats, time keepers, operating the radar gun, etc. If you are interested in helping, please contact the Derby chairperson Steve Emma at semma@nextgenerationone.com
Joey Parise Day of Baseball and Softball
The Joey Parise Day will be held Saturday, June 8th. Schedules for this day are posted on the website. Due to field limitations and time, this year's "Parise Day" will not be a tournament format.
Baseball Semi-finals Playoffs (Majors and Minors only)
Semi-final playoffs will be held Thursday, June 13th for Majors and Friday, June 14th for Minors. Rain date will be Saturday, June 15th.
Baseball "All Stars" Evaluations
Tryouts for players Little League age 9 through 12 will occur on Saturday, June 15th from 1-3pm at Christian Field.
Championship, Awards Night, and "Future Stars"
On Monday, June 17th, Baseball Instructional teams will receive participation trophies, Majors and Minors championship games will be played and the Farm "Future Stars" game will be held.
Summer Baseball
Summer Baseball registration will open in a few weeks but first we need some help. We need a Summer Baseball Coordinator and Coaches. We have two experienced former coordinators on the board, but we are looking for somebody new to run the program this summer. We also need coaches for each division - including Instructional. If you are interested in coordinating or coaching, please reply ASAP. Typically, the season starts the first or second week of July and finish the first week of August, with an optional end-of-season tournament held in Somers. Games will be played Monday through Thursday nights (no weekends). We expect to form teams in Instructional (7 & under), "9U" (ages 7, 8, 9) , "10U" (ages 8, 9, 10) , and "12U" (Majors) (ages 10, 11, and young 12's). Summer Ball is played in Suffield and surrounding towns like Agawam, East Granby, Ellington, Enfield, Granby, Somers, etc.
Summer Baseball Camp
There will be three weeks of camp offered this summer! Session One will be held from June 24th-June 28th, Session Two from July 8th-July 12th and Session Three from August 5th-9th. The camp will be held at Christian Field for players aged 6 - 12. The camp will be run by Bryan Brissette, head baseball coach at Suffield Academy. More information and registration forms are available on our site under "Documents - Camps & Clinics." Pre-registration is required by June 21st.
Helping at Chet’s Snack Shack
Just a reminder - each team is required to provide a minimum of 2 adults per team to work in Chet's snack bar on selected days. A schedule was given to your team's coach. Because Chet's requires parents in order to open, this may mean that some parents will need to work more than the 6 hours of service. The TEAM is responsible for providing volunteers, so this needs to be worked out among the 18+ or so parents on each team.
Suffield Little League Apparel
Order custom Suffield Baseball and Suffield Softball apparel from our online store. We have tee shirts, hoodies, blankets, sweatshirts, flannel pants, and more available. Items are custom printed with Suffield Baseball or Suffield Softball logos and some items are available embroidered with player's name.
Rain Out Notification Service
We will be using a text messaging/email service to inform players, parents, umpires and coaches about last minute changes to games and practices. We are asking all parents, players, and coaches to please sign up for this free service as this will be our main form of communication for any last minute game changes. Please sign up at our site using the link/information under Rain Outs / Cancellations tab.
Suffield Little League has a Facebook Page
It's true! We have our own FaceBook page! We need more parents to join and "talk it up." Take a look at https://www.facebook.com/SuffieldLL
