2011 - 2012 tryouts
|
|
updated 5/11/11
Informal tryouts have already begun (by evaluating players during their current league play and/or attendance at our team practices). Roster spots are being filled now on a first come, first serve basis (by qualified players). Any remaining roster spots will be filled during the formal tryout process.
Multi-sport high school athletes (basketball, lacrosse, etc.) are encouraged to tryout - girls are not expected to attend team practices while playing a high school sport.
If interested in trying out, contact the coach as soon as possible.
-------------------------------------
Formal tryouts for the fall 2011 - spring 2012 year will be held:
May 31 Tuesday
June 1 Wednesday
June 2 Thursday
June 3 Friday (rain date)
Location = Schooley Mill Park
Time = 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Age = girls born on or after 8/01/95 are eligible to tryout
Though not required, players are encouraged to pre-register for the tryouts on the Thunder website(no cost). Players are required to attend 2 of the 3 nights of tryouts (or make alternative arrangements with the coach); however it is recommended they attend all 3 dates.
If a night of tryouts is rained-out, an updated message will be placed on the Club website (www.thundersoccerclub.org), & team website (www.eteamz.com/Strikers95g) or you can call the park hotline (410-313-4458).
Players will be selected based on a combination of individual technical ability, individual and group tactical abilities, athleticism, speed, agility, attitude, attendance, commitment, dedication and coachability. Notification of tryout results will begin immediately after the last tryout. Any other sports or activities that may interfere with soccer should be discussed with the coach prior to accepting a position on the team. Once player offers are made, a $200 deposit will be required to hold your spot on the team.
This will be joint tryout to form 2 Thunder teams:
TSC Strikers = coached by Kevin Axenfeld
TSC Pride = coached by Jorge Sandoval
All positions on the teams are open for competition.
Team plans for the rising U-16 Thunder Strikers:
- hold a team camp late in the summer
- sitout in the fall season so the girls can focus on high school soccer
- compete in the WAGS League
- attend 3-4 competitive tournaments season including the MD State Cup
- train indoor during the winter in a gym
Other notes about the rising U-16 Thunder Strikers:
- Total annual cost (team dues, club dues, etc) is approx $450
- There is no playing time guarantee. Playing time will be a function of a player’s progress, motivation, and work habits, as well as the team’s needs. However, it’s expected every player will receive a fair amount of playing time over the course of the season.
- To avoid overburdening a small number of parents, its required that every family help out in some form or another (i.e. tournament registration, STAR, field managers, team sportsmanship liaison, public relations coordinator, social events coordinator, fundraising coordinator)

General Tryout Tips
|
|
Tryouts can be an exciting but stressful experience. Help your daughter be prepared to show her best:
- Bring her to the tryout on time (even early).
- Bring all the appropriate equipment: cleats, shin guards, and water.
- Feed her healthy foods and bring her well-fed and ready to play. Stop at the bathroom before the tryout.
- Explain to her that she will need to follow the directions of the coach and must give her best effort. Too many times players forget they are at a tryout to make a team, NOT to socialize.
- Tell her to warm up as soon as you arrive. Stretch, kick the ball around even with strangers.
- Keep yourself from becoming part of the process. Many parents choose not to observe, but if you do, sit at a distance and do not cheer.
- Understand the process. Often, little is understood of how a tryout works. Inquire about details of how the tryout will be conducted beforehand.
