Youth Referee Certification Reimbursement Policy
UPDATE: Due to the overwhelming response the Stoneham Soccer Club has eliminated reimbursements for Grade 9 referees. We will still accept Grade 8 reimbursements. Thank you for your cooperation.
Requirements for Reimbursement: Any youth interested in Referee Certification MUST:
- Be a Stoneham resident between 12-17 yrs old.
- Attend a Massachusetts State Referee Committee (MSRC) course.
- Create an account with MSRC by going to www.massref.net.
- Schedule and pay up front to the MSRC for their course once registered.
- Be responsible for transportation to and from the certification course location.
Upon successful completion of the course, the Stoneham Soccer Club will issue reimbursement for the cost of the course to the participant.
Recertification:
- Certification is good for 1 year (be sure to use your existing account).
- Same requirements apply as stated above. (Keep the same account but register for the recertification course or a bridge course).
- Grade 9 referees will be reimbursed $20 towards their recertification upon completion. When the reimbursement policy was instituted by the club the recertification cost was $20. Starting this season the state MASSREF has doubled the cost to $40 for recertification.
- Grade 8 referees (who the club depends on) will be FULLY reimbursed for their recertification.
MSRC Course Grades:
GRADE 9
- Requirement – At least 12 years old.
- Eligible to
- Referee Saturday U10 Travel games (6v6)
- Assistant Referee (sidelines) for all Travel games.
- Referee all Sunday Town games as well.
GRADE 8
GRADE 8 BRIDGE
- Requirement - Grade 9 for at least 1 year and your age plus years as a Grade 9 must add up to exactly 16 or greater.
- Eligibility is same as a Grade 8.

Important Information for All Referees
Referees’ Responsibilities Referees are responsible for:

Assuring that they are duly registered and insured by the Stoneham Soccer Club. Participation as a referee will otherwise not be allowed.

Arriving at the field at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled game time.

Notifying the referee coordinator as soon as possible if unable to referee a scheduled game.

Ensuring that the game clock starts at the scheduled time even if the teams are not ready. Game starts shall not be delayed because the coaches or teams are not ready.

Not permitting players to participate in games unless they are wearing the complete uniform prescribed by the Stoneham Soccer Club (jerseys, shorts, socks, and shin pads).
Referees’ Code of Conduct
Behavior such as interfering with play or other players will be acted upon by the Board of Directors.
Referees will:

Maintain control of the game and comment constructively to players and coaches as required.

Never become involved in arguments or confrontations. Yellow cards and red cards shall be given to players and coaches in conformance with the rules of the game of soccer.

Caution the offending individual as to the consequences of continued misconduct.

Report all incidents of player, coach or parental misconduct to the Board of Directors.
