Broadway Field Practices - Please Note

Please use the kickwalls during all practices at the Broadway Soccer Fields, and avoid using all existing goal boxes to allow for field regeneration.

Also, please assure that children not play on the goal posts or nets, as this may accelerate their wear and, more importantly, place children at risk for injury.

Thank you.

Important Information for All Coaches

To All Coach Volunteers,

The members of the Stoneham Soccer Club Board would like to Thank You  for volunteering your time, effort and energy.  We realize and appreciate the tremendous commitment and contribution you make to the program.    In an effort to foster consistency in coaching, we have developed a list of Responsibilities and a review of the Code of Conduct for coaches, see below.  We believe following these guidelines is a very important part of the coach’s responsibility and goes a long way to ensure we have a great program for the kids.  We would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation. Finally, if you have any problems or questions please contact your league commissioner. Thanks again and we look forward to a GREAT season!!!

Coaches’ Responsibilities

Coaches are responsible for:
  • Assuring proper registration and insurance coverage by the Stoneham Soccer Club. No individual may function as a coach or assistant coach unless duly registered and insured by the Stoneham Soccer Club.
  • Filling out a CORI form, and be CORI approved before they will be allowed to coach a team. If you are not registered and you have not completed a CORI you will not be allowed to coach.  It is the law.
  • Notifying the League Commissioner if a new Assistant Coach is to be added so that registration and insurance can be processed.
  • Contacting all players on your team and welcome them.  Let them know how you will be communicating with them this season (i.e. phone, e-mail). Schedules for the games will be posted on the website.
  • Assure that all players have the proper uniforms.  If they do not, please refer them to Reading Trophy, 660 Main Street, Reading, MA 781-944-7171. The full and proper uniform is required for play.
  • Arranging practice for their team (with the exception of Clinic and U14) at least once per week. Practices cannot include the use of the fixed goals.  Please use kick-walls only.  This will help us to preserve the condition of the grass in the goal areas.
  • Informing Clinic League parents how the program works (for Clinic coaches only). That is, there is ½ hour of practice and ½ hour of play on Sunday.
  • Assuring that each team member receive equal playing time.
  • Leading by example.  Remember to maintain a positive attitude, communicate with the parents, respect and support the referees and respect each other.
  • Maintaining control of the game and avoiding “running up” scores.
  • Obtaining and setting up the flags and goal nets for their assigned field (if team is playing the first game of the day). Thus it is important to arrive at the field in sufficient time so as to not delay the start of the game. The nets must be set up before play begins. Time will start as scheduled whether or not play actually begins and the game time shall be reduced accordingly. Subsequent games will not be delayed.
  • Removing and returning the flags and goal nets to the equipment shed (if team is playing the last game of the day).
  • Completing an evaluation of the Referees at the end of each game.  We hope this will aid in the development of our referees and result in a higher level of officiating.
  • Knowing the procedure for game cancellations: You will be contacted by the commissioner of your league when a game is cancelled.  This will happen at approximately 7:00, the morning of the game.  It is up to you to contact the members of your team. Cancellations are also posted on the Club Website.

Coaches’ Code of Conduct

Behavior such as interfering with play or other players will be acted upon by the Board of Directors.

Coaches will:

  • Be encouraging, supportive, & affirmative in regard to players’ play on the field in word and deed; please do not use bad language or negative comments.
  • Comment constructively to their players and maintain a positive attitude toward his/her team, opposing teams and referees.
  • Never make negative comments about opponents or the way they play - talk up your own team instead.
  • Respect officials & accept their decisions.
  • Report all incidents of player or parental misconduct to the Board of Directors. In the event of misconduct, caution the offending individual as to the consequences of continued misconduct. In the event that the offending individual persists, the player involved shall be immediately removed from play for the remainder of the game.
  • Become familiar with the rules of the game.
  • Take action to prevent scores from becoming excessive. Repeated incidents by a team will result in disciplinary action.
  • Never engage in dissent directed toward an official.  Protests shall be brought to the commissioner after the game.
  • Never harass the referee and do not enter the playing field unless called onto the field by the referee;
  • Never engage in any kind or type of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent;
  • Never act in any manner which is detrimental to the team or the Club.
