FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING
KAEPA ST. CHARLES XPLOSION and CLUB VOLLEYBALL
1. What is club volleyball? Club volleyball is a highly organized, nationwide, competitive volleyball network designed for athletes to refine their volleyball skills, compete at the regional and national level, expose their abilities to collegiate recruiters if interested in playing at that level and train to achieve any development goals they may have for the sport of volleyball.
2. Can the multi-sport athlete play in St. Charles Xplosion VBC? Yes, a large number of Xplosion members participate in more than one sport, especially in the younger age divisions.
3. What is the roster size and number of teams in St. Charles Xplosion VBC? Roster sizes vary depending on the age division and usually consist of between 9 and 12 athletes so that everyone can get a reasonable amount of playing time. However, we do not guarantee any player, any amount of playing time. Xplosion carries around 14 teams a year in age divisions from 10 and under through 18 and under.
4. Who coaches at St. Charles Xplosion VBC? Most of our coaches have previous coaching experience and have received certification from the Gateway Region and/or USA Volleyball. Many of our coaches have played at the club, high school and collegiate level and are still playing today. We also have coaches participating from local collegiate programs such as Missouri Baptist University, Maryville and Lindenwood's volleyball programs. All teams have at least one assistant coach.
5. When does club volleyball take place? Practices for most teams begins in November or December and will go through the first week of May. Competition for all teams begins in January and will end with the Regional Championships May 2010. Teams that qualify for the USA Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships will continue through late June/early July.
6. Where do teams practice? Xplosion currently uses schools in the Francis Howell and Fort Zumwalt School Districts, The Rec-Plex (St. Peters), Trinity Lutheran (N. Hwy 94), Zion Lutheran (Harvester) for practice facilities. Other sites may be determined as needed.
7. How many practices a week will there be and the duration of each practice? Each team will generally practice 1-2 times per week for up to 2 hours each practice. However teams may practice up to 3 times per week at the coaches discretion when preparing for a particular tournament.
8. Do we have to practice during the holidays and on days following tournaments? Our teams do not practice on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day or Easter. Teams generally follow a regular practice routine following all tournaments but may be canceled at the coaches discretion.
9. How many tournaments will we attend, when and where? The number of tournaments, tournament dates and locations are decided by each coach based on their availability as well as their players. Our teams generally play in 8 to 10 tournaments, 1 to 2 times per month. Additional tournaments are at each coaches discretion usually with parent/player input. Location of tournaments will include play in the Gateway Region as well as out of town. The Gateway Region encompasses the eastern part of Missouri and the southern part of Illinois. Gateway Region tournaments can be held from cities as far away as Quincy and Springfield in Illinois to Rolla and West Plains in Missouri. (See map below)
10. What does it cost to play? The annual fees for participation depend on the age division of the team and the amount of travel.
11. How do you pay for club? A monthly payment plan is available. Currently Xplosion accepts cash, check, money order. Kaepa St. Charles Xplosion's Mission Statement
Kaepa St. Charles Xplosion is a group of coaches, players, and parents with an interest in competive volleyball. It is for girls that have a goal of playing competitive volleyball and are willing to make the commitment that it takes. The goal of the program is to teach solid individual and team volleyball fundamentals. Coaches try to win, but the growth of individuals comes first. The principles of fair play and sportsmanship are taught as an important part of the game.
