This October Santa Clara Sporting Club will see a lot of PINK. Why is that you ask? Well, October is the National Cancer Awareness month. Sporting has launched its Goal for A Cure month. Cancer is an epidemic that affects millions of people around the world. According to the American Cancer Society, 7.6 Million people die around the world due to cancer related illnesses. Cancer is also the second leading cause of death in the United States. Sporting club has pledged a donation of 25,000 dollars to bring Cancer awareness to the Santa Clara valley. 100% of proceeds will go to El Camino Hospital's cancer awareness fund. All sporting teams will also trade in their green and white stripes for pink and white ones. Every game played in October will be with pink and white jerseys to bring awareness about this painful epidemic. Please go to http://www.goalsforacure.com/ for more information.

Today Sporting clinched the victory of the CYSA district 2 cup. Today sporting faceda very formidable Juventus Black team. The game was intense throughout the first half. Sporting boys managed to control most of the first half but had a hard time scoring. The score was 1-0 at the end of the first half. The second goal was scored with a header by Brazilian player Gabriel after an assist of a corner kick. The sporting lined up proved to be too much for the Juventus team whom was force to play the second half with 10 players. Congrats go out to Juventus for a good game.

Takumi Yotsumoto was a great addition to the Sporting Line up for several seasons. His presence was always felt in the midfield. When he would play as a wing player, his agility and strength helped sporting dominate the sides of the field. Before playing with Santa Clara, Takumi also played for the Previous State Champion-Juventus Monarcas of redwood city. He is definitely missed by the Sporting team and we wish him the best of luck in Japan. Takumi moved about 7 months ago to Japan, where he is excelling and defining himself as one of its top players. We wish him the best as he continues in his quest to be drafted into a professional club. We know he is close to reaching that goal.

Sporting U15 Boys headed down south this past weekend to the last tournament of the summer season. They breezed through the first round with a total of 9 goals in favor and 0 against. The quarter final game was a good one against a formidable Washington Premier team. Sporting was up 2-0 when Washington managed to intensify the game and tie the marker at 2-2. Sporting scored again and the matched ended with a score of 3-2. The Semifinal game was against DeAnza Force. DeAnza played hard and managed to get out of the first round with barely 4 points. They played surprisingly well the first half, especially for a team that is used to being humiliated by the Sporting line up time and time again. I guess you can't really buy talent. The second half of the game was dominated by Sporting as the boys attacked over and over again. Sporting boys had about 15 shots of possibility including corners, as DeAnza tried to hold on for dear life. De Anza had about 3. Unfortunately we weren't able to finish at top and the game went into overtime. Overtime was uneventful as neither of the teams could score and the game went into penalties. An illegal substitution was made at the half mark of the penalty shootout. FIFA Laws of the game state that a goalie can only be substituted in case of an injury after a goal. DeAnza decided to switch their goalie and was allowed to do so. Penalties continued and at the 10th penalty shot, our team missed when the ball hit the post. DeAnza moved onto the next round. To everyone's surprise, two barely unknown teams moved onto the final. I guess we at Santa Clara as well as the other major U15 teams know that respect is gained by seasoned triumphs and not by a weekend of dreams coming true.

The semifinal was against a tough Mustang team. At the end we came out on top with a score of 3-2. The Championship game was one in which our boys managed to dominate almost the entire time with an undeniable score of 5-0. This weekend was exciting as some of the best teams in the country converged onto the Santa Clara valley for the annual Sporting Invitational. The first round was secured after Sporting won La Roca Premier 2-0, Marin FC Blue 3-0, and San Juan Lightning 3-1. The quarter finals against Central California Aztecs was the toughest up to that point. The game was tight all throughout but Sporting boys managed to gain the victory for a final score of 3-2. This win put us into the semifinal against one of our biggest rival, Alliance Tecos. The game was the toughest one of the tournament and ended up in penalties after both teams were scoreless at the end of regular time. Sporting gained the victory after making all their five penalty shots and Tecos missing their final one. The final game was played against La Roca FC. The game was tough but we were not able to get the victory. Our team fell 2-1.

Sporting secured its spot in the second round after beating the tough Texas Fire. In the Quarter Finals we faced one of our biggest rivals, Tecos. The game was dominated by our boys all throughout with Tecos having very few opportunities at the Goal. The game ended with a score of 2-0 in our favor. The semifinal put us against the tough Aztecs Premier. The game did not go our way and we ended up falling 3-0 against the formidable Aztecs team.
