Jerry Linberger wins his Second Tournament of 2009 on Fishing Creek
Fishing Creek Results 10-17-2009
Jerry Lineberger won his second event of the year catching five fish that weighed 9lbs 13.5oz on a very tough, windy Saturday on Fishing Creek. Jerry stated the fish were caught using a Rapala DT-4 in cuts out of the direct wind both up and down the lake.Jack Fraser finished second with five fish that weighed 9lbs 1.5oz. Jack also used a small crank bait to catch his fish.Third Place went to Mark Early with four fish that went 7lbs 15.3oz.Danny Wieland took home the big fish pot with a nice 4lb 9.5oz large mouth.“Conditions were tougher than they had been reported, the wind and light rain on the lead edge of that cold front coming in couldn't have helped things. I caught all my fish on a double willow spinnerbait out of 2-3 feet of water from the boat ramp upriver. I ran all the way up Cane Creek to where it narrows down, and up above the 2nd island above the Hwy 9 bridge to the rocks, where there was some good current moving in the afternoon but I couldn't get bit on a spinnerbait or crankbait up there. I somehow managed to dodge the rocks at WOT on the way up, since I found several of them idling back down but luckily didn't do any damage. For future reference, once you get above the 1st island upriver from the bridge there are several rocky patches, which I can now see clearly looking at Google earth” Danny Wieland
Great Job everyone….one more tourney to go in 2009. See Ya on Norman!!

Sanders Wins Rhodhiss
Rhodhiss lake 9-18-06
Drew Sanders fishing with his dad won Southfork's first ever visit to Rhodhiss Lake. The scheduled Mt. Island Tournament location was vetoed by the current Mr. Bass Steve Dyer in favor of Rhodhiss. The fishing was pretty tough with only 38 ½ total pounds of fish weighed in.
Drew finished 1st with 4 fish weighing 9lbs 2oz anchored by a nice 4lb 12oz LM which also took home the big fish pot.
“I had a great time with everyone this weekend. My Dad said he has never seen a club so friendly and nice too everyone. He still has not stopped complaining too me saying I was back ending him all day. Only two left and every place is up for grabs except first. Maybe next year I will learn how to fish the early part of the season” Drew Sanders
Steve Dyer all but clinched the 2009 Mr. Bass Championship weigh in the only limit of the day 5 fish including two Small Mouth bass weighing 7lbs 5oz, good enough for 2nd place.
“It's been a fun year...I was lucky again with less than one hour to fish and sitting on 2 small bass we finally got far enough up river to find a few fish in a spinner bait biting mood....seems like this year has been all about long hours of catching nothing followed by 30 min of catching fish. We started in the John's river fishing some great looking stuff with nothing to show for it. At 10:30 we headed back to the very stained Catawba where Kramer and I both had a few small fish eat a jig, but we had no top water action, no nothing else action and I was really at a loss. With about 90 min left we returned to the John's and started up river fishing deep runs where I caught the other three fish. Wish I had made that move back a bit sooner.
It really is a great lake. I feel the pulling of water all night Friday had much to do with the slow bite.” Steve Dyer
Charles Lechner took home 3rd place with 4 fish tipping the scales at 4lbs 15oz. Congratz to all the winners!

Kendall Seitz Wins National Guard World Championship Southern Divsion
Kendall Seitz Wins Southern Division and Advanced to the
National Guard Junior World Championship!!
August 2009 on the Allegheny River in Pittsburg, PA,
Matt Hartman of Fredericksburg, Pa., leads the 15 to 18 age bracket and Kendall Seitz of Hickory, N.C. leads the 11 to 14 age bracket in the National Guard TBF Junior World Championship after one day of competition on the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh. Held in conjunction with the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup presented by BP and Castrol, the National Guard Junior World Championship will award $42,000 in scholarships and Berkley youth-program product grants to the top six competitors in the 11 to 14 age bracket and top six competitors in the 15 to 18 age bracket.
Seitz represents the TBF’s Southern division leads in the 11 to 14 age bracket with two bass weighing 3 pounds, 2 ounces.
The other anglers in the 11 to 14 age group who will continue competition Sunday are Matt Hasenfratz of Ponca City, Okla. (one fish, 1-7); Andrew Roberts of Plattsburgh, N.Y. (one fish, 1-12); Ian Alston of Windsor Mill, Md. (one fish, 2-7); and Daryk Eckert of Stockport, Ohio (three fish, 2-12).
The junior anglers are paired with an FLW Outdoors Pro for competition on the Allegheny River. There are three anglers to a boat: a junior angler from each age group plus an FLW Tour pro who assists the junior anglers but does not fish. The two junior anglers share control of the boat for the day but compete in their respective age groups. Weights will be zeroed Saturday as the top six anglers in the 11 to 14 age bracket and the top six anglers in the 15 to 18 age bracket continue competition, with the winners determined by the heaviest catch from that day.
Here is how Kendall’s dad viewed the event:
“A rainy Day 1 greeted the 80 junior anglers competing for their respective divisional titles. It continued to rain all day which didn’t help the fishing with the river already 3 to 4 feet above normal pool and stained from rain the area had received prior to the tourney.
Kendall brought in 2 fish on day 1 weighing 3 lbs 2 oz. anchored by a 2 lb 6 oz largemouth caught just 10 minutes before check in. Both fish came on a 1/4 oz. Basscraft jig in Smallmouth, a special color paired with a Zoom Green Pumpkin Super Chunk Jr.
Kendall missed big fish for the day by just one ounce as the contender from Maryland had a Smallmouth weighing 2 lbs 7 oz.
Kendall won the Southern Division and was the overall winner of Day 1 which qualified him to fish on Day 2 the Championship Day.
The 12 divisional leaders were picked up at the Omni Hotel in Pittsburgh the next morning by a excursion limo and taken to the river in style. Kendall was paired with the 15-18 year old leader Matt Hartman from PA and they were captained by National Guard pro Jonathan Newton.
Day 2 blast off was delayed 30 minutes due to heavy fog which finally cleared around 7:30 am leaving only 5 ½ hours of fishing time before the 1:00 pm weighing At the end of the day neither Kendall nor his boat partner was able to land a keeper fish. Kendall ended up finishing in fifth place overall and won $1500.00 in scholarships.
TBF/FLW treated Kendall and all the kids to a first class experience which will never be forgotten and they are already looking forward to the chance to compete again next year”
Great Job Kendall,! We are all proud of you!!

Lake Wylie in the Dark
Lake Wylie 8-15-09
Rob Sledzewski took home top honors and big fish in Southfork's last night tourney of 2009. Rob weighed-in 5 fish totaling 12lbs 12oz anchored by a very nice 4lb 6oz large mouth. Rob credited crank baits, spinner baits and a 10" worm for his win. Chad Helton finished second with 5 fish going 9lbs 1oz. Chad said he caught fish all night on a chatterbait type bait and he trusty shakyhead. Todd Hommeman was third with 4 fish going 8lbs 1oz.
Derek Lilley who was fourth had this to add:
"Well fishing for me was pretty much tough as nails. Having forgot the scales AGAIN i had to go back to the house making me arrive at the ramp with only 15 minutes to spare. Sorry guys. At blast off i just went into the pocket at the wildlife club and fished a frog around everything in sight trying to get a big mama bite before dark with not even a sniff. Then just fished down the long bluff wall within site of the ramp hopping a big worm and managed to catch 7 or 8 barely keepers. Stayed there till around midnight then went downlake hoping the boat traffic had died down some to throw a Buzz Bait along rip rap around Beaver Creek area trying to get a bigger bite. Had two on but both came unhooked and that was it"
Our next event is a meeting on Thursday September 17th. followed by the next sheduled tournament Mt Island lake on Saturday September 19th. Make sure you get out and practice there!!! ;) See you then

Badin Night Tourney goes to Jerry Lineberger

Southfork Tackles Badin In The Dark
July 18, 2009
It was Saturday July 18th, but just barely, when the anglers of Southfork Bassmasters hit the waters of Badin Lake. Thirteen boats from the club blasted off from the Alcoa Landing at 1 AM and didn't return until 8 hours later. And, a number of the boat teams had been at it longer than that. Some of the teams chose to show up at 7 PM on Friday to fish with the Friday Nights on Badin crew. For those who did, the fourteen hours took their toll.
Although some rugged lightning storms had torn through earlier in the evening, waters on the lake remained calm through the duration of the event. Teams found that bite, which had been good earlier in the evening, had gone very cold. Jerry Lineberger managed to bring in the biggest bag weight with 10.14.5 pounds, winning $143.

1st place winner, Jerry Lineberger

Big Fish winner, Derrick Lilley, found the evening tougher than most. Late to the show, Lilley had turned around on his way to the tournament to assist andother club member who had suffered a trailer tire blowout on the way. He arrived 10 minutes after blast off and was able to participate, by permission of the president. While flipping a dock early in the evening, Lilley managed to take a quik bath while attempting to retrieve a frog plug off the dock. He then experienced engine problems throughout the evening that slowed him down. Despite all this, the member, who also serves as weighmaster, found Big Fish and scored second place on the night. His 4.95 pounder was part of a total bag weight of 10.8.5 pounds. Prize for the evening's troubles was $72 for second and $85 for the solo fish.

| 2nd place & Big Fish winner Derrick Lilley & 3rd place winner Trent Stegall |
Third place belonged to Trent Stegall who carried 10.0.5 pounds to the scales. He won $25.

Dyer Wins Two In-A-Row!!
Waterre to Mr. Bass
Wateree treated the Southfork anglers to their first hot-muggy tournament of the 2009 season. With the grass and water levels up it seemed a morning top water bite should have played a big factor in the catches, but in the end it was current up the river that paid off for two of the three top finishers. I won my third event of 2009 and the second in a row on Wateree with 5 fish weighing 12lbs 10.5oz. Here is the report I sent out;
“Cody and I started on the main lake grass points in the mouth of Taylor Creek with a frog and buzz-bait....nothing doing. We caught two fish off a small point between there and Wateree creek on a spinner bait and brush hog. Moved to a few spots in Wateree creek and still nothing....I moved out to mouth of the river to fish a few tree when I noticed the current picking up, so we went up the river toward the dam. We stopped on the last 150 yards of bank before the where the red-neck beach area begins. I swam a jig and Cody fished his brush hog. I lost two very nice fish...and several others before I switched to a True-South jig and started catching them...by then they had slowed the water up and the big fish quit biting. We had one 50' stretch of undercut bank where Cody caught a short fish and his big fish. I lost one that looked to be 4-5 lbs and broke two off...crazy...I feel I had the opportunity to catch 20lbs. I think Cody got a kick out of me throwing those jigs in the lake”
Derek Lilley was second with 5 fish weighing 11lbs 3.5oz Derek had this report to share;
“I had two spots down lake I like to fish first thing but both had boats on them when I got there so I just put the trolling motor down on a good looking bank.I started out with the Spro frog and fished a lot of grass before I had one smoke it about 7am, then a bunch more grass with nothing to show for it. I went back down a long stretch I had just fished with the frog flipping a sweet beaver to isolated clumps and managed to jerk another one out of there.
Then went to the docks flipping a big worm and managed to catch 3 more on it to make the limit.
Cranked some spots later with a DD10 and caught 3 more but had a big one on that pulled off as I tried to net it and that was it”
Todd Holleman was third with 5 fish weighing 8lbs 12.5oz. Todd caught his fish on a Rattle Trap and Texas rigged worm in the current up-river. Cody Stegall won the Big Fish pot with a nice 4lb 4oz large mouth.
Our next tournament will be Saturday Early Morning July 18th on Badin Lake 1am-9am at Alcoa Landing
See everyone in July!!

Mr. Bass Steve Dyer Defends His 2008 High Rock Win
High muddy water and rain showers greeted a nice turnout of Southfork Anglers to their 5th event of the year Saturday May 15th on High Rock Lake, but despite that the fish were bitting and seven double digit bags of fish were brought to the scales.
When all was said and done Steve Dyer won his second event of 2009 and his second in a row on High Rock Lake. Fishing shallow muddy flats with a spinner bait and tube Steve had five fish weigh in at 14lbs 12.5oz anchored by a 5lb 4oz large mouth that took home the Big Fish Pot. Rob Sledzewski fishing with his daughter Kathryn was second with 5 fish weighing 14lbs 1oz. Rob was throwing a Pop-R in shallow water. Danny Wieland threw the tackle box at them catching fish on a spinner bait, DT4, shaky head, spider grub, and a t-rigged Zoom Dead Ringer. He was rewarded with five fish that went 13lbs 7oz takeing home third place.

Youthful Energy Nets Fish at Southfork Event
April 25, 2009
By Bob Bauer and Fishbyte.net Staff
Photos courtesy of Southfork Youth Bassmasters
When the fishing gets tough this time of year, it takes something different in the tackle box to bring them in. Maybe the best strategy is youthful energy... that's what blasted off from Badin's Alcoa Landing April 25th. The Southfork Youth Bassmasters took on the bashful Badin bass in their second fishing tournament of the season.
Bob Bauer, Southfork Bassmasters Youth Director, was thrilled with the turn out and the results. “We had 13 competitors and 6 caught fish,” he stated. “It was a warm and sunny day on Badin and our youth had a great experience there.”
Southfork Bassmasters is affiliated with both the FLW/TBF and B.A.S.S. Federations. Its youth efforts have become an integral part of the club's mission. The club sponsors The Kids Casting events at Bass Pro Shops in the spring and hosts four fishing tournaments for youth, leading to regional and national events each year. Anglers must be between the ages of 8 and 18.

|
2nd place winner Cody Stegall
|
“Like every other angler out there this weekend, 14 inch fish were hard to come by, but plenty of short fish were caught,” commented Bauer. With the spawn getting in full swing Bobby Bauer rode the bed bite to first place by irritating 4 fish and boated 2 fish over 3 pounds. The big fish was 3 pounds 4 ounces.
Cody Stegall had 3 fish he caught on a trick worm off land points to get second. His total weight scaled was 6 pounds 4 ounces. And, Wesley Lackey rounded out the top 3 places with 3 fish he caught with a rattletrap and a fluke while they were schooling. His weight was 4 pounds 15 ounces.
“I want to send out a special welcome to Meg Early and BrieAnna Bauer for coming out to their first tournament,” stated Bauer. “The girls will soon dominate,” he laughed.

| Tournament winners Wesley Lackey, Bobby Bauer, & Cody Stegal |
The next Youth tournament is at High Rock and the Tamarack Wildlife Access on May 9th. The group wraps up its local competition at Lake Wylie South Point Access on June 13 before top competitors move on to the NC Bass Federation Tournament later in June at the same lake.

Thonpson Wins on Badin
Thompson Wins Southfork Event At Badin
April 18, 2009 By Fishbyte.net
Water temperatures are rising on Badin and anglers are finding numerous locations where late spring action is a boat load, but Saturday's Southfork Bassmaster tournament event on temperamental Badin proved to be an off-day for most. The FLW/TBF/B.A.S.S. Federation-affiliated club struggled all day to find the right combination. At weigh in, only one boat had found limit.
Like all others out on the water Saturday, the Charlotte/Mooresville/Concord-based group found plenty of small fish and spotty bed action. “It was tough,” stated member Steve Dyer. “I had limit on line a number of times, but just couldn't get it to the boat. Knowing what I know now, I should have done the whole day differently. But, that's fishing'” he laughed. Dyer, a regular in the money with the club, placed third.
Making the trek east to take on Badin's waters in the five-fish, individual competition. The club allows non-boaters and, usually, every boat has two fishermen on board. “Today was a tough one on schedules,” commented Dyer. “A lot of the guys had other things they needed to be at, so numbers were down a bit.”
At the scales, the day belonged to Keith Thompson of Mooresville. His bag limit netted him first place and the $115 prize pot. Thompson lured 10 pounds 11 ounces of fish to his livewell and bested all other competitors. The winner took the ribbing of the others at weigh in good-naturedly. “It isn't much of a bag, but it was enough,” laughed Thompson. “Better than paying for your gas!” he quipped.
Doug Holt proved to be top money-winner on Badin as he captured second place and Big Fish. His four fish totaled 10 pounds 7.5 ounces and one of them, the Big Fish winner, was nearly a third of that weight. It scored 3 pounds 13.5 ounces, a BF weight not normal for Badin. Holt walked away with $60 for second and $70 for Big Fish.
Dyer's 9 pounds 11.5 ounces in four fish held on for third spot and $20. “Paid for half your fuel,” chided Holt. “Honey, we're goin' out to dinner,” smiled Dyer, happy to just place that day.
Members reported some beds active throughout the day, but more often than not, either small fish hanging around them or nothing at all. Most areas of the lake registered about 59 degree temps, although there were a few warm spots in the mid-sixties. Before the sun rose many were using spinners and switched to shaky heads once the day got longer.
Our next tournament will be April 16th on High Rock Lake
See everyone in April!

Todd Holleman Wins James
Southfork’s 2009 March Tournament on Lake James goes to first time winner Todd Holleman
For the third straight tournament sub-freezing blast off temperatures greeted the Southfork anglers this time on scenic Lake James. The clouds and cold winds lowered the lake temps by as much as 9 deg from Friday making bites few and far between. Todd Holleman fishing from the back of Rob Sledzewski’s boat took home top honors with 4 fish weighing 8lbs 9.5oz. Todd caught his fish in the stained Catawba water on a Rattle Trap and War Eagle Spinner Bait all before noon.
Steve Dyer with his third top two finish in a row weighed in 4 fish at 8lbs 2.5oz. Steve and Kramer caught 5 fish off one isolated tree that was lodged on a shallow water flat. Hilery Lackey finished third with 3 fish weighing 8lbs 1.5oz. Hilery caught his fish on a spoon. Shane Lineberger won the big fish pot with a stud smallie weighing 4lbs 11oz. Congratulations to all the winners.
Our next tournament will be April 18th on Badin Lake

Dyer Defends his 2008 February Win on Wylie!!
Southfork Bassmasters held its second tournament of the 2009 season Saturday on Lake Wylie. 19 members and two guests braved another sub-freezing blast-off. Unlike January's Norman tournament where temps hovered below freezing all day, Saturday's forecast of sunny skies and 50 deg plus had everyone ready for a nice day on the water and it produced, almost 80lbs of fish were weighed in. Steve Dyer won the tournament with five fish that weighed 12lbs 14 oz. Steve credited the win to slow rolling a custom made Fat Ratz Custom Lure 3/4 ounce spinner bait with a #8 Colorado blade and a purple/chart (Lake Fork Shad) skirt on rocks and trees in the Paw Creek area.
Derek Lilley finished second with 5 fish weighing 12lbs 8.5oz. Derek caught his fish on a Zoom Super Fluke and a un-named swimming worm in the lower end of the lake. Shane Lineberger was third with five fish weighing 9lbs 9.5oz. Shane, also fishing the south part of the lake, caught his limit on a jig, grub and jerk bait. Nick Adams fishing as a guest with Derek won the big fish pot with a fat 4lb 15oz LM he caught on a Zoom Super Fluke.
Our next tournament will be March 21st on Lake James.
We will also be having our second 2009 meeting the Thursday march 19th.
See everyone in March!!"

Sledzewski Kicks Off 2009 with a Win in a Deep Freeze!!
On what might have been the coldest day I have ever fished from a bass boat Rob took home the top honors with 5 fish weighing 8lbs 12oz. His limit included the event Big Fish a nice 3lb 4oz LM. Rob credited his late day run to the steam station hot hole for the victory. I was second with 5 fish weighing 8lbs 10oz and Lake Norman Doug made it three straight Norman tournaments with a top 3 fishing weighing in 3 fish at 6lbs 6.5oz.
For those of you who decided to stay in the bed it was one bitter cold day with blast-off temps in the single digits. I caught 4 of my 5 fish in the lower hot hole on a 3 bladed spinnerbait the first 30 min of the tournament.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Wylie in Feb.
