South Sunrise Little League - Orange, California: News: First time T-Ball Players
If this this the first time you are signing your little youngster up for baseball WELCOME!!!
How old does my child have to be sign up?
If your child is 5 years old on April 30th of 2008 he/she can sign up for T-ball!
How does my child get selected for a team?
Each team has about 10 to 12 kids. We try to put kids from the same school together. Practices will start at the beginning of February and games start in March. You may request that your child play on the same team as a friend. Requests, however, can not be guaranteed. Please note your request on your registration form.
What about tryouts?
First time 5 and 6 year old players do not tryout. If your child played T-ball as a 5 year old last year you have the option of letting him tryout to play in coach pitch (Single A) this year. This does not mean that he will be drafted. If he is not drafted he will play T-ball. You can choose to have your 6 year old, who played last year, stay in T-ball in which case he/she will not need to tryout.
Can the parents participate?
Parent participation is strongly encouraged!!!! The parents can serve as coaches, team parents or cheerleaders. With managers approval, parents can help in the dugout and on the field.
How competitive are the games?
The games are not competitive. No score or standings are kept and every team wins. Each team will bat and field three innings. Each team will bat their entire lineup each inning, but it is possible to have the fielders make outs. All kids play in the field every inning.
Will my child get a uniform?
Yes, they will be the best dressed in baseball. Each player will get a jersey, pants and a cap. Each player will have to provide his or her own game socks and if desired sleeves. The purchase of these items can be arranged with the team parents before the first game.
What other equipment will my child need?
Little League provides the soft baseballs, helmets, catchers gear and two team bats. Your child should have his own glove before his first practice begins in February. Most kids wear rubber cleats, but it is not required. Your child may bring his/her own bat to the practice or game but for safety reasons must hand it to a manager or coach so that they can control when it is to be used.
How often will we practice?
The practice schedule is up to each manager, but you can expect one or two practices a week. Once the season starts the team may practice less.
