Little League Bat BPF Annoucement

March 26, 2009

NOTICE TO PARENTS, PLAYERS AND LEAGUES: IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF A NEW COMPOSITE METAL BAT FOR USE IN LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL (Major Division and below), BE SURE THAT THE BAT YOU ARE PURCHASING HAS THIS MARKING: BPF 1.15 ON THE BARREL OR HANDLE OF THE BAT. IF NOT, IT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED FOR PLAY IN LITTLE LEAGUE GAMES.

Little League officials are aware that there are bats for sale in stores, online or that may have already been purchased that are Little League approved, but do not have the required bat performance standard (BPF) markings. In fact, some of the bats on the Little League approved bat list may not carry the required BPF 1.15 marking on the bat, depending on when they were manufactured and licensed. Currently manufacturers are conducting an inventory and re-testing of all approved bats. The results of this study / retesting is to be finished by March 31, 2009. We are building a list of certain bats that are approved, but do not have the BPF marking due to special circumstances. For these bats, we are extending eligibility for play until December 31, 2009. As we are made aware of bats that meet our criteria for this extension, we will add them to the list. Please check this list regularly for updates. HOWEVER, ONLY BATS WITH THE BPF 1.15 MARKING AND THE BATS ON THIS LIST WILL BE ALLOWED FOR PLAY IN 2009.

Bats with the special exception include the following:

Adidas Vanquish Blue design (There is a newer model of this bat, also named the Vanquish and it has copper and black markings. It contains the proper labeling and therefore is not subject to the one-year rule).

DeMarini - Black Coyote, Rogue, Distance, Rumble, Tengu, Mach 10, Patriot
Easton - LZ-810, LZ-800, Stealth Optiflex LST 1,

Louisville Slugger - YB31
NIKE - Areo

A New Look for AA Baseball this Year

AA Managers, Coaches and Parents,

As you may have heard the AA division will have a new look this year. In order to give the our AA division players more touches on the baseball the league has decided to have 6 out of 18 regular season games machine pitched. The main reason for this change is because we want the AA players to “play” the game more than “watch” the game. Possibly as a result of the pitch count rules instated by Little League Baseball, the depth of AA players with the ability to pitch the ball over the plate has been tested. Several games of the past years have been walkfests. Players lose batting experience because the ball does not cross the plate to where they can swing. With less hit balls the fielders are not getting any experience fielding balls. The game in general slows down.

Please note that a majority of the games will still be kid pitched. Only games during the week will be machine pitched. We do this so the games can be completed sooner. Machine pitch games typically are completed in 1 ½ hours. This gives more time for the kids to get home and do homework during the week.

If you have any questions, concerns, or complaints please do not hesitate to get in touch myself or any of the board members. We are all here to serve the community.

AA Division Coordinator

D30 AAA Orange City Tournament Finals:

The Yankees Win.... Finally!!

Orange, Ca -- The 2008 South Sunrise AAA Yankees put a cap on the week-long CA D30 Orange City AAA Tournament downing the Anaheim Hills East AAA Rangers (#2) 8-5 in nine innings.

Collin Conroy pitched a gem over 5 innings, but fell short of the win as the Rangers closed the gap on the Yankee's 4-1 lead in the bottom of the 6th to tie the score. By the end of the 7th inning the two teams had each managed to push another runner across the plate, but left the crowd in suspense with the game still knotted up at 5.

The Yankees were stymied early in the extra innings by the Ranger's hurler. However, the Ranger's pitching change in the 9th at the top of the Yankee order proved decisive as Aaron Long (2-hole) started a rally punctuated by Carlos Rodriguez' triple down the third base line. With three runs across and the Rangers coming up to the bat, Preston Moebius was sent in to shut the door. Keeping the batters off balance with his wicked high-heat, Moebeus closed down the side to the elation of the Yankee fans.

Game Note: This championship caps a trifecta for Manager Rich Long who has now won an Orange City Tournament in each of the three City Tournament divisions: AA, AAA, and Majors. A tip 'o the cap to Rich.

National Little League Injury Survey

Dear Little League Friends:

For more than a half-century, Little League International has maintained extensive records on injuries in Little League games and practices. These records have been used over the years to monitor trends and, when necessary, to effect positive changes in the Rules and Regulations.

In many cases, these changes have eventually been adopted in other youth baseball and softball programs, as well as professional baseball. It is just one of the many aspects of Little League that sets us apart from all other youth baseball and softball programs.

For the first time, Little League International has produced a comprehensive report on the history of Little League's efforts and accomplishments regarding the wellbeing of its participants and volunteers. This white paper entitled "Hits and Runs, Bumps and Bruises: Health, Safety and Injury Prevention are the Keystone of Little League" provides an extensive review of advancements in these areas.

We invite you to review this important document, produced by the Little League International Communications Division. The white paper can be found at the Little League International web site by clicking on the link to the PDF below, or by pasting it into your web browser:
