WILDCATS SUMMER UPDATE - PROVIDENCE SUMMER LEAGUE AND MORE!!

WILDCATS LOOK TO DOMINATE LEAGUE PLAY IN THE PROVIDENCE HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER LEAGUE STARTING JUNE 4

For the fourth consecutive summer the Wildcats will take part in the Providence Catholic High School Girls Summer League. This year the Wildcats will have three girls teams play on Mondays and Wednesdays, and - for the first time - two boys teams playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Needless to say, a huge purple wave is headed for the shores of Providence High School in New Lenox.

While the Wildcats have always had success during the summer, we are especially proud to have our incoming 6th graders stepping up to compete against the top area 7th and 8th grade teams. This is just one of the ways the Wildcats push their players to improve and elevate their play each and every year.

Look for the Wildcats to further expand the offering this Fall/Winter as the target is to field two teams at each of the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade levels for girls, while continuing to strengthen the boys program with the area’s top talent and move our 8th grade girls team to the elite level.

Open practice sessions will be held every Sunday starting July 22, with tryouts to be held during the weekend of September 15. Check back often for updated information.

6th Grade Boys Put Wildcats Boys Program on the Map
6th Boys Trophy
6TH GRADE WILDCATS BOYS WIN MAYOR KYLE R. HASTINGS YOUTH BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT IN ORLAND HILLS

In their last tournament of their inaugural season, the Wildcats 6th grade boys ended on a high note.  After battling all season and improving every game, Coach Brajkovich coached the team to a 5-win day to win the tournament championship.

The tournament had teams from across the south suburbs and Chicago. Each game was a battle, but the Wildcats' desire to win put them on top in the end.  In the championship game the Wildcats beat the Kinzie Cougars, holding the Cougars off after a late game surge that brought them within two of the Wildcats.

Congrats to the 6th grade Wildcats boys!!  Not only did the 6th grade win their first tournament, it marks the first tournament championship for any Wildcats boys team.  Now that the boys have a year of experience, the sky is the limit for the boys next season.

Congratulations boys!!

WILDCATS 6TH AND 8TH GRADE GIRLS WIN

CHAMPIONSHIPS IN WHEATON

6th, 7th and 8th Grade Girls Combine for a 11-1 Weekend Record

In a tune-up for next weekend's Midwest Invitational the 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls competed in what has become the equivalent of a state feeder program championship.

The 8th grade girls won the championship for the fourth straight year, proving their dominance over other feeder programs. The 6th grade handled each of their 5 wins easily, scoring 35 point or more in each game, with an average winning margin of 20 points. The 7th grade girls took the #1 seed after going 2-0 in pool play, but injuries and a tough shooting day stopped them short of the championship.

On the boys side, the 6th graders played at Walker Athletics, and several of the Wildcats did very well in the skills competition. Demas and Brajkovich took second scoring 35 points in just 60 seconds - McCrea and Salgado not too far behind.

Congrats Wildcats!!

The 5th grade won their first tournament of the year, as the 6th grade white won their third, pushing their record to 11-0.

The 4th and 5th grade continue with league play, while the 6th grade white team heads to Merrillville for the Baylor Youth Holiday Tournament to play against some of the best teams in Illinois and Indiana.

We anticipate training the two teams at each grade level together, but coaches are needed to handle the games and tournaments.  Interested parties should contact John Kroen at jkroen@southsuburbanwildcats.com.

WILDCATS COMBINE INCOMING 5TH, 6TH AND 7TH GRADE ALL-STARS IN PROVIDENCE SUMMER LEAGUE

What has become an annual event during June and July, the Wildcats will kickoff the preseason facing area teams in the Providence High School Girls Summer Basketball League.  For years the Wildcats have performed very well in this league, but this year the Wildcats will send in a mixture of girls from the fifth, sixth and seventh grade teams to take on the best area 7th and 8th grade teams.

We understand that the girls need to face tough competition, sometimes above their own grade levels, in order to prepare them for their school seasons and to sharpen their skills for Wildcats tryouts in September.

Games will be Mondays and Wednesdays at Providence High School, usually scheduled after 7pm.  All fans are welcome to come out and cheer on the top talent in Lincoln-Way girls basketball.

Lincoln-Way Wildcats - The Travel Basketball Standard

Lincoln-Way Wildcats Continue to Set the Standard and Make Girls Basketball a Priority in the Lincoln-Way Area

We hear the questions on the softball fields, at the local ice cream shop and on the playground:

  • Are the Wildcats doing the open gym sessions every Sunday in August again this summer at Central?
  • What are the Wildcats going to do to top last season’s success?

First, we will top last year’s success by once again making girls’ basketball our priority.

We will get better by continuing to attract the area’s top talent and athletes looking to take their ability to a higher level.

There’s no greater joy in travel sports than when the players improve, have fun and play on a winning team.  Add to that the parents’ approval of being part of a well- organized, respected organization, that allows families to plan their fall and winter activities accordingly, taking the guesswork out of when and where practices and games will be.

Next, for the third straight summer the Wildcats will hold open gym sessions in the north gym of Lincoln-Way Central every Sunday during August (8/1, 8/8, 8/15, 8/22 and 8/29) from 6pm -8pm.

Just a reminder, tryouts for all teams will be held on Sunday, September 12 & 19, 2010 at Lincoln-Way West from 6pm - 9pm.

All girls living within the Lincoln-Way High School district 210 residential boundaries are invited to attend tryouts.

For those entering third and fourth grade, or any grade, we can’t stress enough the importance of choosing the right travel organization - one focused on girls’ basketball, with a well-organized, respected, affordable, fun and winning program.  That’s Wildcats basketball!!!

Questions should be sent to jkroen@southsuburbanwildcats.com.

The Wildcats spent the weekend experiencing basketball at the highest level of competition at the AAU Super Regional Championship.  The Wildcats played hard, but ran into a team that was ranked 5th in the nation based on last year's AAU National Championship results.

The Wildcats played tough, but fell just short in the championship game.

The second place finish earned the Wildcats a berth in Division II at AAU Nationals.  An impressive result for a feeder program taking on the top AAU teams in the region.

Wildcats Close Season with More Hardware

Wildcats Close Season with More Hardware

The fourth, five and sixth grade teams closed their 2009-2010 seasons by placing at every grade level in this past weekend’s Rockford tournament.  The tournament was highlighted by the fourth grade white team’s championship win over a tough team from Madison, Wisconsin.  This latest championship means the fourth grade white has swept the 4th grade tournament circuit, an unbelievable accomplishment for any team at any level.  Six fourth grade tournaments, six championships!!

Not to be out done, the fourth grade purple won the Silver bracket championship, going 3-1 in the tournament with their only loss coming to the fourth grade white 24-20.  The neck-n-neck game between the two Wildcats fourth grade teams proved these two teams were among the elite in Illinois.  We can’t wait for next year.

The fifth grade purple took second in their division, highlighted by 2 solid wins over the fifth grade Xplosion Black team.  The team has come a long way, played hard with 7 players and walked away with second place trophies. Congratulations!!

The sixth and seventh grade teams also played well, with the sixth playing six games over an 11-hour period, falling just short of the host Rockford in the championship game, and the seventh going 3-1 with their only loss by 4 in the championship game.

The seventh grade goes for the Bulls league championship on Sunday against the Hurricanes, while both the seventh and eighth grade teams look to go out on top during March.

Thanks to all the girls and parents who made the 2009-2010 season the most successful in the history of the Wildcats.  With the talent moving up through the organization, the Wildcats should dominate again in 2010-2011, while the Lincoln-Way high schools will continue to play well with the addition of our graduating eighth graders.

Wildcats Take First in St. Charles, South Elgin and Neuqua Valley

Wildcats Take First in St. Charles, South Elgin and Neuqua Valley

With one week to go in the 2009-2010 season for the 4th, 5th and 6th grade Wildcats, three teams brought home first place finishes to add to the already crowded trophy case.

In St. Charles, the 4th grade White team ousted the host St. Charles Storm from their own tournament for the second time this year, winning their fifth tournament championship this season.  With a win in Rockford, the 4th grade White will sweep the 4th grade tournament circuit this season.  The biggest hurdle for the 4th grade White will likely be the 4th grade Purple.

No weekend recap would be complete without confirmation that the 4th Purple did beat Wauconda 52 – 0!!!!  We’ll put that in the record books as the biggest winning margin in Wildcats history.  It may be the highest score ever registered by a Wildcats team.  Also, congratulations to the 4th Purple as they took third in St. Charles.

The 5th White won their third tournament championship of the season besting the competition, including 2 wins over last year’s archnemesis, Geneva.  We must have lost three games to them last year all by 2 or fewer points per game.

Finally, the 8th grade went 3-1 at Neuqua Valley which was good for a piece of first place, as DeKalb and the Jets also went 3-1.  The only thing standing between the 8th graders and their first championship this season was a 2-point loss to the Jets.  Just before that, the Jets fell to DeKalb – a team the Wildcats beat on Day 2. Congrats to the 8th graders and the 7th graders who helped the team to three impressive victories.

Congratulations to all the girls and good luck this weekend in Rockford.  We’ll see many of you Saturday at the Clock Tower, but remember to head to bed early on Saturday night so the 4th, 5th and 6th graders can end the season on a high note.

Go Wildcats!!

Sunday, February 14
7th Grade Wildcats Bring Home the Championship from LaGrange!
7th Grade in LaGrange

7th Grade Wildcats Win Big in LaGrange

The weekend brought 5 wins for the 7th grade Wildcats, including a championship rematch against the Elmhurst Airbourne.

The Wildcats posted double digit wins against LaGrange, twice against Western Springs and then a convincing victory over a tough Airbourne team in the championship game.

After posing for some quick pictures with their medals, the team traveled to the Bulls Academy to score another victory against Riverforest, with a final of 27-3.

The team, which has been substantially restructured since last year, reached a significant milestone as they continue to improve.

The addition of the three top 7th graders from Manhattan,  Summit Hill's center and point guard, combined with returning stars from Mokena and Summit Hill have made the Wildcats a force in tournament play.

Congratulations to our 7th graders for their strong play and first championship!!

Good luck at Neuqua Valley and Rockford over the next two weekends.

Go Wildcats!!

Another weekend passes and the Wildcats add another tournament championship to the 2009/2010 trophy case.  Furthermore, in the six tournaments the Wildcats 6th grade team has competed in this season, they have four championships and two 2nd place finishes.  Wow!!

Also this weekend the 4th grade Purple scored a big win beating a tough Neuqua Valley Wildcats 5th grade team.  Congrats girls.

Finally, we need to give the 7th and 8th grade Wildcats major kudos for facing a tough field in Hillside.  Everyone now knows that you can't push around the Wildcats!!

We're proud of you.

Another Big Weekend for the Wildcats

ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND FOR THE WILDCATS

5th White Takes First in Hobart Tournament

4th White and 4th Purple Sweep Mt. Prospect

Following the 4th grade White team's championship last weekend, the 5th grade White sweeps the field in Hobart to win their second championship of the season.  Next weekend the 6th grade will go for the Hobart trifecta, as they too will take on some of the best teams in Indiana.

Also, the 4th grade White avenges it's only loss to a 4th grade team this season, with a solid victory over Mt. Prospect Blue.  The Wildcats 4th grade Purple made it two in a row over Mt. Prospect Navy with a win and has now won 7 of their last 8 games.

Wildcats teams have another busy weekend as they close January with the 7th and 8th grade teams in Hillside, 6th in Hobart, 4th and 5th Purple in Neuqua Valley and the 4th grade White in Orland Park at a tournament hosted by Triple Threat Sports.

Congratulations to the 5th grade White and all the Wildcats teams as they continue to collect more championship hardware than any other past season.

4TH WHITE AND 4TH PURPLE TAKE FIRST AND SECOND IN HOBART TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to both 4th grade Wildcats teams for sweeping the competition in Sunday's tournament.  Both teams went 3-0 against teams from Chesterton, Munster and Frankfort, before meeting in the championship game against each other.  All the girls were exhausted at tip-off, but both teams played hard and had fun.

White won the championship, their third straight championship in as many as they have played, and Purple made their first trip to a championship game.  This also gives the Wildcats organization back-to-back 4th grade tournament championships in Hobart.

Congratulations Wildcats!!

Thanks to all the Wildcats and their parents, brothers and sisters for coming out to Lincoln-Way North to cheer on coach Sam Nekola and the Lincoln-Way North Phoenix in their home opener against Plainfield North.

While the Phoenix missed a win by a few tenths of a second, it was great to see and hear all the Wildcats cheering on the high school girls.  It was the biggest showing of Wildcats pride in the history of the organization - it was impressive!!

Now that we've had some fun and celebrated some big wins in our first week, let's get ready for the next round of games and the start of our tournament season.

Go Wildcats!!!!

8th Grade and 6th Grade Teams End on a High Note!! Congrats to all the Wildcats on a great weekend of basketball.  The 8th grade ventured off to the new Walker Athletics facility, taking home first place against some tough competition.  The wins were highlighted by several close wins, including a championship three with less than 10 seconds left in the game. The 6th graders’ season ended with a second place finish at the Bulls Academy’s spring tournament, surviving the many bumps and bruises experienced during this tough field.

Congratulations on your big wins!!

4th GRADE WILDCATS SWEEP HOBART TOURNAMENT FIELD

8th GRADERS WIN BIG IN BLUE ISLAND

Congratulations go out to the 4th grade Wildcats as they went 4-0 this weekend in Hobart, Indiana to win their very first tournament championship. This was truly a team effort with an unbelievable effort in the championship game against a very big Griffith team, scoring a 23-15 victory. Seeing the girls improve so much since November has been amazing.

Not to be outdone, the Wildcats 8th graders went into Blue Island and came out with a first place win. It was also their first championship and one that they soon won’t forget. I don’t think anyone will ever question their toughness.

The 5th (White), 6th and 7th grade teams also played tournament ball this weekend in one of the toughest fields of the year in Hillside. The 5th grade almost made it back-to-back championships, but lost to the 5th/6th grade Memorial Park Wildcats in the title game - taking the second place trophy. The 6th and 7th grades had some big wins and some tough losses, but both took satisfaction in knocking the host MP Wildcats out of their own tournament.

January continues to be the busiest month of the season as the 8th graders go back to Blue Island this weekend and the 4th graders host six teams in the Second Annual Wildcats 4th Grade Girls Shootout. All are invited to attend at Hilda Walker on Saturday (1/31) and at Lincoln-Way North on Sunday (2/1).

GO WILDCATS!!

5th Grade (White) and 7th Grade Teams Win Big!!

5th Grade (Purple) and 6th Grade Go Undefeated in Pool Play!!

Congrats to all the Wildcats on a great weekend of basketball.  The weekend started with the 6th and 7th grade combining to crush the competition at Moraine Valley, going 2-0, followed by tournament wins in Wheaton by the 5th grade white team and in South Elgin by the 7th grade team.  Not to be overlooked, the 5th grade purple team went 2-0 in pool play in Wheaton and the 6th grade went 3-0 in pool play in South Elgin.  Both the 5th grade purple and the 6th grade had first round bracket play losses, but they all played hard.

In addition, the 8th grade ended their weekend with a big win over South Elgin and the 4th grade played tough against the Arlington Heights Cardinals.  Great job girls!!

Once again, congrats to the 5th and 7th grade - Tournament Champions!!  We're very proud of you!! The South Suburban Wildcats of Lincoln-Way continue to be recognized as a top feeder program in Illinois.

Also, let's all give Kersten a hand for winning her first tournament as a head coach of the 7th grade.  In her first full tournament as a head coach, she takes the girls to the top.

SUMMIT HILL SPARTANS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS!

SUMMIT HILL 7TH GRADE GIRLS HEAD DOWNSTATE!!!

After strong victories in the conference championship, the Summit Hill Spartans took their perfect record to sectionals.  On Wednesday, December 3, the Summit Hill 7th Grade Girls Team took on the formerly undefeated University Park/Crete team.

After University Park/Crete took a quick 4-0 lead during the first 20 seconds of the game, Amy Vos hit a key free throw which was then followed by a three-pointer from Sam Pietrusynski to tie the game at 4-4.  From that point on, the Summit Hill team was led to victory by Wildcats: Casey, Elly, Allie, Shannon, Erin, Amy and Sam.  The final score was 50-28.

The next stop is Bloomington, IL on December 6th at 1pm.

We encourage all the girls to cheer on the Summit Hill Spartans.  For more information, please email Coach Wayne at waynepiet@comcast.net.  Also, feel free to post words of congratulations and encouragement for our Wildcats/Spartans in the Guestbook section of the website.

GO SPARTANS!! MAKE THE WILDCATS ORGANIZATION PROUD!!

After three successful Sunday evening open practice sessions, we've decided to continue these sessions at least until the end of August.  We realize many girls will be at the Jonas Brothers' concert on the 24th and the 31st is Labor day weekend, but we'll be in the North Gym at Lincoln-Way Central on both days from 6pm - 8pm.  The sessions are open to any girls grades 3rd - 8th who live within the District 210 residential boundaries.  Also, since school is now back in session invite some friends and schoolmates to join us.

WILDCATS TRYOUTS COMING TO A GYM NEAR YOU

WILDCATS TRYOUTS COMING TO A GYM NEAR YOU

As the Wildcats launch our second season of play and our first as a district 210 feeder program, we will be taking a new approach to tryouts.  On September 14th, 21st and 28th, the Wildcats will host three regional tryout sessions at area schools.  We will target schools that will be in the neighborhood for girls that will feed into Lincoln-Way West, Central, North and East.  We are finalizing the locations, and will send out the information as soon as the venues are set.  We will also schedule individual tryouts for girls unable to make one of the three regional group tryouts.

Please contact us at admin@southsuburbanwildcats.com with any questions.  An online registration tool will be launched soon.

We’re looking forward to a very successful season.  We have already been contacted by teams and tournament organizers looking to include the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade Wildcats in their individual game schedules and tournaments.

The organization has a good reputation and we will look to strengthen that reputation with additional help from local high school basketball stars and more diverse rosters representing all four district 210 high schools.

Remember, the Wildcats only focus is girls’ sports, which dictates everything we do, from the way we train, practice and motivate players.  It also means, “girls first” when it comes to coaches, clinic leaders, gym time, program costs, and the focus of the organization.  Don’t underestimate the significance of a girls-only organization.

Go Wildcats!!

DON'T PLAY LIKE A GIRL; PLAY LIKE A WILDCAT!!

The coaches would like to thank all 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade girls and their parents for being part of the South Suburban Wildcats travel basketball organization.  As the girls focus their time on softball and soccer we’d like to encourage all Wildcats players and those of you considering joining the organization next season to participate in some of the many basketball clinics and camps held over the summer.  We will post information on different camps as it becomes available.

The Wildcats organization is planning to hold a clinic to be run by L-W East star and Wildcats coach Kersten Magrum in early August – more information will be posted to this site as available.  If you haven’t already joined our email list, we encourage you to do so by sending an email to admin@southsuburbanwildcats.com.

WILDCATS AROUND TOWN PART 3
Sarah Crunched
WATCH FOR WILDCATS AROUND MOKENA, FRANKFORT, NEW LENOX, TINLEY PARK AND MANHATTAN SPORTING THE PURPLE AND WHITE AROUND TOWN!!

From the Wildcats Around Town file...the 6th grade Wildcats won their 5th championship of the year, but this picture demonstrates just how tough the games were. Besides Sarah getting crunched between three Memorial Park 6th graders, Natalie had a girl jump into her when going for a layup, but it was Natalie who stayed standing (the MP 6th grader was not seriously hurt in the incident).  Congrats on another championship and thanks to Mr. Waleski for the fantastic pictures.

WATCH FOR WILDCATS AROUND MOKENA, FRANKFORT, NEW LENOX, TINLEY PARK AND MANHATTAN SPORTING THE PURPLE AND WHITE AROUND TOWN!!

From the Wildcats Around Town file...the 2011-2012 season end party was a blast. The party at Fox's included the sixth grade purple, white and the 4th grade team.  The girls celebrated another championship season with pizza, dancing, magic and face painting. The girls had mustangs, flowers, cartoon characters and so many other works of art painted on their faces - everyone was also wearing a smile.

Best one of the night goes to Nora. This girl can't wait for next season.
