Hawks defeat Easton in a thriller

The Seahawks continued their 25 game unbeaten streak by defeating Easton friday night at Navy. Both teams were undefeated and in a virtual tie for first place. The winner would have a decided edge in regards to playoffs seedings.

The first period was very unproductive as the Hawks tallied a late first period goal from michael gibbs from a centering pass from Bradley Hewick Jr. to end the period 1-0 Seahawks.

In the early second period Easton scored a weak goal to tie the game at 1-1. Then the Hawks caught fire netting 4 goals in the second period. Matt Gregoire, who skated his butt off, tallied 2 goals and one assist. Brad Hewick had a goal and 2 assists, Billy Ludwig had a goal and an assist. Sean Walsh had 2 assists and Zane Milbourne, Christopher Devore had assists to end the second period with the hawks having a commanding 5-1 lead.

In the third period, Easton was not prepared to throw in the towel, as they made a furious run at the hawks. WHile the hawks continued to get penalty after penalty the warriors capitalized ontheir opportunity. However the goals were fluky type goals but a goal is a goal.

However the Hawks were able to hold off the Warriors and win 5-4 and remain undefeated and still number one in the division. It goes to show how costly penalties are and they nearly cost us the game.

Next week we have broadneck at navy at 740 pm. be there by 645 pm.

Seahawks skate to 6-0

The Seahawks continued their winning ways as they defeated Eleanor Roosevelt 11-1 last night at Wells Ice Rink. This win extends our undefeated games streak to 21. OUTSTANDING!!!

The Seahawks were lead by Captain Brad Hewick with 4 goals and 2 assists. Jr. Matt " I make my mom sit in the back seat when i drive" Gregoire added 2 goals and 2 assists. Dan Hall, and Nolan High each added a goal and a assist.

New to the scoring ranks are Liam" I'm off the schnide" Mccabe who had a goal and 2 assists. Also getting their first goal on the season was Tim Rose, also had an assist, and Benny Boy Tishman .  Ben's goal was just spectacular as he waited as the goalie went down then ROOFED it. Nice Shot!!!!!!!!!

Sean Walsh continue to unload shots from the point that led to him getting 2 assists.

Another important stat is that we only had one penalty and our penalties continue to go down game to game while the opponents continue to rack them up out of frustration. This is just as an important a stat then goals and assists. ( Dont know what Darla is feeding Benny Boy lately but he is playing aweful aggressive. He was the lone penalty for roughing. In prior games Ben has received some penalties for hitting. Thats cool we love the aggression. )

They looked like they were having fun and while we had a no shot policy in place Coach Bryan was pleased with the drills they were executing. They are getting it and if they continue to execute this way the wins will come.

Next Game Queen Annes at Navy 4pm.

REMEMBER  " If you're not first, you're LAST"  right ZANE!!!!!!

Seahawks down Huntingtown

The Seahawks won easily against Huntingtown 7-1 on Friday against a very young Huntingtown team. Young but full of talk before the game. way to stay focused and finish off the teams we are supppose to.

Chris Devore was on his A game and scored 3 goals and 3 assists while Brad Hewick netted 2 goals and an assist. Sean Walsh got his first goal of the year and added an assist as well. Danny Hall added the final goal.

Chris Sumpter continued his solid play while his defense cleared in front allowing only 16 shots on goal. Great Job.

Coach Bryan is concerned that the team is taking too long to get into the flow of the game which could hurt us later in the season. So concentrate on getting off early and often.

Next Game Northern on Monday at tucker Rd. 8pm. be there by 7:10. please account for beltway traffic

Seahawks defeat Fallston 7-1

The Seahawks remained undefeated after defeating Fallston 7-1 friday at the Naval Academy.

The scoring was done by the upper classmen as Matt "I can pass Baby" Gregoire had a goal and two beautiful assists , in an outstanding effort. Assist Captain Billy Ludwig scored 2 goals and Jr. Nolan " Enfuego" High continued to tally goals as he added 2 more to his total. Assistant Captain Chris Devore added a beautiful goal.Captain Brad Hewick added a goal and a assist while Zane " penalty box" Milbourne added an assist and Freshman Michael Gibbs added another one.

The scoring continues to be spread out amongst many players which shows a willingness to play as a team. No one individual is standing out more than the team. Continue to work as a team and we will be advantage game in and game out.

Statistically on a state level, Nolan High And Bill Ludwig are on the leader board in goals and Brad Hewick is high up on the assists board. But Chris " Stonewall" Sumpter leads the state in GAA with goalies playing more than one game with a GAA of 1.33. OUTSTANDING JUST OUTSTANDING  Chris. The defense has helped tremendous in this stat and we congratulate you as well.

On another note, the referees paid us a compliment on keeping our composure as Fallston lost their. It is important that we take advantage of the penalties that the other team gets and not retaliate. Great Job!!!

Our next game is against Huntingtown at the Naval Academy Friday at 4 Pm. Huntingtown has been putting the word out that they plan on ending our run so lets teach them a lesson that they will never forget.

Please be at the rink by 310 pm.

Seahawks roll Old Mill

The Seahawks improved to 2-0 in league play with a 11-1 drubbing of Old Mill. A revenge game from last year when Old Mill tied us, The Hawks never gave Old Mill a chance to think that the same could happen this year.

The Seahawks showed great sportsmanship by not shooting on an empty net while Old Mill's goalie was getting dressed but as the referee said " they were better without the goalie."

Matt Gregoire started the scoring and the eleventh goal was scored by Nolan High, who was credited with a hat trick on the night. We welcome back assistant captain Christopher Devore who skated with a cast on and scored two goals of his own. Billy Ludwig added two goals while captain Brad Hewick scored a goal and 2 assists.

The encouraging things were our new players contributing goals, assists and great defense.

Robbie " The Finisher" Bowes camped out front of the net and assistant captain Billy Ludwig centered the puck and he roofed it for his first goal of the season. The bench and crowd went nuts. Newcomer Joey " i'm under this jersey somewhere" Papetti contributed THREE ASSISTS. Outstanding !!!! Sean " are our jackets in YET" Walsh added two assists and continued his strong defensive efforts.  Dan Hall added a goal and Michael Gibbs added an assist.

Being well rounded will serve us well so continue to work hard in games such as this and we will be rewarded at the end.

Next game is friday Dec 7th at navy against Fallston at 540pm. please arrive by 5pm.

Seahawks begin defense of State Title

The South River Seahawks began the defense of its state championship against arch rival Severna Park last night at Bowie Ice rink. Unfortunately we all wished that this was the final game just to add excitement but there was plenty of excitement last night.

President Brad Hewick,sr had come to learn that Severna Park had scheduled a scrimmage against Linganore last week in preparation for our game realizing the importance. After contacting Linganore Coach pete we got a little feed back. Severna Park's effort was game but futile.

The hawks came out immediately and on the first shift scored a power play goal by Zane " I'm going to be late" Milbourne with an assist from Brad Hewick. shortly thereafter the Seahawks had another power play goal from Billy Ludwig assisted from Brad Hewick and Michael " I got game " Gibbs

The second period proved very challenging for the Seahawks as they were shorthanded virtually the entire second period killing off 3 5 on 3's and some superb goaltending from freshman sensation Chris" Yea I got my jersey" Sumpter, who was just OUTSTANDING  between the pipes in his first high school game and start. WAY TO GO CHRIS!!!!!!

After 2 periods it was 2-0 hawks. The third period was back and forth when Nolan "ok i cant come with a nickname" High crashed the net and scored a put back after a great effort from Danny Hall. the assists were given to Hall and Matt "catch me if you can" Gregoire. The falcons then got a break away from Cory Jensen who for the most part was contained for the night making it 3-1. Zane Milbourne tallied a second goal unassisted as he picked the puck from the air slashing it the ice bouncing in the 5 hole for the 4 th goal. The falcons again scored on a break away to make the final 4-2.

The freshman were outstanding and lets not forget about Ford " i'm not coming off the ice " Cruz and Robbie " I took one for the team " Bowes who took full advantage of their shifts. congratulations men, continue the hard work

Remember " If you're not first, You're are last"

SEAHAWKS WIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Seahawks beat Linganore 9-8 to win the MSHL Capital Cup Championship in Laurel MD. It has to be one of the most exciting hockey games ever played. We congratulate our boys for their tremendous effort, heart and desire.

In Front of a packed house,The Seahawks didn't take long to get the first tally as Andrew Devore redirected a slap shot from Brad Hewick 40 seconds into the period.Linganore answered back with goals from Schulz,Fegler and Mchugh. 3-1 linganore.

The Seahawks were not to be denied nor discouraged as the scoring machine revved up as the Hawks scored 5 unanswered goals from Chris Devore (A.Devore), Andrew Devore (C. Devore, J Ortiz), Adam Mitchell (C. Devore), Adam Mitchell (unassisted) and Andrew Devore (C Devore , M. gregoire). 6-3 Seahawks and Linganore was forced to call timeout.

Linganore , the highest scoring team in the state, regrouped and tallied 5 unanswered goals of their own. Klauka scored four in a row and his brother scored the fifth goal to take the lead 8-6 to end the second period.

Before the third the ice was cut and the rest was much needed by both teams. The Seahawks continued to apply pressure and Adam Mitchell (A. Devore) scored to cut the lead to 8-7 setting up a very memorable moment. FRESHMAN BENNY BOY TISHMAN SCORED THE GAME TYING GOAL WITH 7 MINUTES REMAINING getting an assist from Mitchell and Hewick.

The teams continued to skate up and down the ice in at a hectic pace as the tension grew in the crowd. With 1:55 left in the game, Coach Bryan Brady called timeout to give the kids a breather and sent out his hero line. A. Devore, C.Devore, A. Mitchell, Bill Ludwig and Brad Hewick. The plan came together as the Hawks put on alot of pressure and while behind the net Andrew Devore spotted Mitchell sliding down the slot. Devore passed the puck to Mitchell who one timed it into the net for a 9-8 lead with :55 remaining. The same line stayed out and killed the remaining time.

We our so proud of you men and the parents thank you for giving us a memory of a lifetime.
